[Are we sure that Delly wasn’t in Houston last night? That city was also flooded today forcing the Texans to cancel practice…]
Did anything bad happen to you today? Did anything ruin your Memorial Day weekend? Have you seen any unfortunate disasters or annoying mishaps befall people you know or places you go? Chances are… it was all Delly’s fault.
Yes, this pesky Australian spit-fire, recently dubbed practically Public Enemy #1 in these NBA playoffs by any number of talking heads and Atlanta Hawks, should likely be the culprit in everything from your burnt morning toast to the real cause of global warming…
Who knew at the start of the season (heck, even at the start of these playoffs) that the man once derided as “Dellava D-League” would become known as the dangerous and infamous “Aussie Assassin”?
To hear some tell it, Delly would be the 6’4 second coming of Bill Laimbeer or Kermit Washington. A deliberately dirty player who is just gunning for the other team’s best players and systematically taking them out like a basketball ninja.
“I really didn’t see too much, but then I looked at the replay,” said DeMarre Carroll. “I just seen Dellavedova diving. You know, he did it to Kyle. He’s one of our starters and he gotta have surgery, he’s out 4-6 months. And he did it to Al. I think Al said, ‘Enough of this.’ And he did what he did.”
Al Horford, while not calling Delly “dirty” agreed with the Junkyard Dog…
“If it was on purpose or not, we don’t know. Maybe it wasn’t on purpose. But, you know, with just his track record, I just felt like it was,” Horford said.
[Meanwhile, it appears Steph might not have anything to worry about… image courtesy of Commenter Kimdimisan]
And today, sports talk shows have entire segments dedicated to whether or not Mad Matt is a “dirty” player. But LeBron James has had enough of the nonsense…
“I’m a little bit off about it because this is my guy, this is my teammate and this is a guy that goes out and works his tail off every single night and people are trying to give him a bad rap,” James said. “He doesn’t deserve it and I don’t like it.”
Still, there seems to be a groundswell of people suffering from the Delly affect. Just look at the damage he’s seemingly responsible for.
From historical and natural disasters…

Share your story about how that darn Delly has affected your life. What do you #BlameDelly for?
I don’t know about you, but my favorite one is:
The Hawks are 0-3 and too busy complaining about the Cavs scrappy back-up point guard to realize they’re on the verge of going home for the summer… #BlameDelly
Holy cow. He got up high on that one.
Come on game 4 hurry up and start! Solutions for customers are only so interesting on game days…
Cant believe you failed to notice Delly in the printing press messing up the first run of Cavs:TheBlog tee-shirts!
I am all for fun…but the delly hate getting momentum in the media could very well endanger him on the court. I really don’t appreciate that. Then again…I was vacuuming today and the blanket delly left hanging off the guest bed got sucked into the roller and it took TWeLVE minutes to remove it. #blamedelly
Stuff like this has me a little worried too: A columnist at the Atlanta paper says Delly is “the guy you’d most like to see on the receiving end of a real, honest-to-goodness Flagrant Two elbow.” http://furtherreview.blog.ajc.com/2015/05/26/a-hawks-nemesis-emerges-dellavedova/ Reminds me of the long-ago build-up to 10-cent beer night, a promotion that coincided with a game the Indians played up as a chance for revenge for a Billy Martin-ordered reckless play the previous week in Texas. (Lenny Randle bunted down the first-base line and took out the pitcher with a roll block when he came to field it.) Thank goodness tonight’s game… Read more »
This type of writing is just plain irresponsible from a paid media member. “Fans” is one thing, but completely ignoring all visual factual evidence?
Mountain time rules, BTW. Game starts at 6:30. Cols in bed by 9:30. It’s awesome.
Certainly better than “Cols face down on bar floor 1:30am”
Haha. I normally make it home well before then. Starting early is the key. Go hard. Then go home.
The more I learn about you, the more amazing it gets.
Players more important than Delly
1. LeBron – He’s carrying this freaking team on his back. He’s exhausted after every game. He gives everything to this team
2. Kyrie – Get well get well soon we want you to get well
3. Love – Sucks that he’s injured. We’d probably sweep the Warriors with him healthy
4. JR Smith – Offense and defense
5. Shump – Defense and offense
6. TT – All the rebounds
7. Mozgov – Big Russian
Can we please talk about them?
Cols gets upset that people aren’t talking enough about other Cavs…
#BlameDelly
Actually might add James Jones to the list. He’s been a pleasant surprise in the playoffs…lots of key 3’s when we really needed them…and ok defense.
None of them have done what Delly has done, eliminate one opposing All-Star for the entire series, and eliminate another one for most of one game.
IF he does that against the Warriors, the Cavaliers will win.
Republicans may lose in 2016 as #BlameDelly overtakes “Thanks a lot, Obama,” as the scapegoat for all of America’s woes. I look forward to sending Tom Pestak a #BlameDelly tweet on the second Tuesday in November.
Hopefull Irving plays a few minutes tonight just to feel things out.
No no no! If that happens, I will #BlameDelly.
They should gear Kyrie’s recovery to a return for the first game of the finals.
Nah. If he can go, he should for a few minutes. I’m talking 5-10 minutes. He has to figure out how to play injured. Otherwise we are screwed.
It would be better to make him less injured than risk aggravating the knee again. Maximize his health for the finals rather than chance a setback on the eve of a potential 9-day layoff.
The chance of another flareup will be much greater tonight than June 4. It only took 12 minutes of playing time for him to aggravate the tendinitis in game 6 against the Bulls.
I agree with Cols (for a change).
Maybe have KI and JR come in when LBJ takes his first quarter break. If they both start raining 3’s, the Hawks would vanish in a puff of smoke!
KI forced to guard Delly in practice. Just sayin… #BlameDelly
Looks like if you’re in Cleveland, you can get a decently priced ticket to Game 4…

Some positive KLove news…

Blah, I’m sick of talking about Delly. He’s been playing really well, but his importance of non big 3 members is lower than JR Smith, Shump, TT, and Moz.
Smith, Shump, and TT have been fantastic and any drop off from them and we are screwed. So enough Delly, let’s have JR Smith thread!
You might be sick of it Cols, but the rest of the world apparently isn’t… You might want to watch Game 4 with the sound off…
Yeah, I think it would be more fun to talk about how awesome JR has been playing on offense and defense. i mean the guy had 10 rebounds in the last gaem byawte all i ghave to hear about it Delly
Ugh. IT sucks
How bout this…
JR and Perk fuel the debate about LBJ vs. MJ…

#BlameDelly
Totally agree that a silly narrative is taking away from what all the guys are doing. TT, Shump and JR are playing beautiful, team ball. Considering what their reputations were in NYC, you would think that it would get more play.
The fact is though that Delly sticks out for a multitude of reasons. It is more fun to hate on the “last pick” of the pickup game than to notice how JR has completely bought in or that Blatt is out-coaching his opponents.
Very true… the sexy narrative isn’t what the Cavs are doing right… it’s the nit-picking and fabricating of negative storylines that drive internet clicks…
Amazing that the whole Delly thing completely overshadowed the tremendous overtime win by the Cavs over the regular season number one seed. Controversy sells more than grit and greatness…
Nation is dragging our boy through the mud. Can’t let that stand unchecked. #STANDWITHDELLY
Cols has finally gotten a following!

This is AWESOME!
I added it into the article
Love this. It is all about respect. These guys all have zero respect for Delly. It ticks them off that a seamingly untalented Aussie is beating them in many facets of the game. No one likes to feel as though he is lazy or dumb. Delly’s game is predicated on work and smarts. If he succeeds, the opponent immediately feels as though he is outed as a lazy player on a level. Seriously, no respect for Delly. How many times does the guy have to perfectly bank in the ball off a quirky move that looks like a lob before… Read more »
I blame Delly for the ending to Mass Effect 3
The regular one, or extended post-patch one? After talking to the doctors, they did say Delly influenced them;)
The comments from the Hawks players just goes to show that sometimes dumb jocks are just dumb jocks.
