Recap: Warriors 89, Cavs 83 (Or, The Right Idea….)
2015-12-25https://vine.co/v/iADzzn2Z6tH
The Cavs had the right idea today. They slowed the game down, limited their own turnovers to just 11, and ran the Warriors off the 3-line. They held the Warriors to just 41% shooting from the field and 27.8% from deep on just 16 shots. Golden State actually scored a season low 89 points. The Cavs, however, just couldn’t get a basket. They went 5-30 from downtown, and made just 31.6% of all their shots. LeBron James, Kevin Love, and Kyrie Irving scored 48 points on 57 attempts. J.R. Smith put up 14 points, hitting four of the Cavs’ five 3-pointers. Draymond Green led the Warriors with 22 points, 15 boards, and seven dimes. Former Cavalier Sean Livingston also chipped in 16 points on 8-9 shooting.
Despite Cleveland’s offensive struggles, they were within ten with 3:47 left in the game. At that point, the King dunked the ball two times in a row and Love tipped in a LeBron miss to spark a 6-0 run. Love then swatted Draymond Green from behind, which led to LeBron running the floor and getting fouled. With 1:32 left, the King bricked his two free throws, and the Cavs were down 77-81. They would get within three before ultimately falling by six.
First Quarter
The Cavs opened the game up trying to get the ball down low. On their first offensive possession, LeBron used a screen to get into position on the left block. He passed the ball to Mozgov on the baseline, but Mozgov stepped out. The next play, Love got the ball deep in the paint, and stepped through to the hoop. He missed his shot. Love followed that miss up by missing a wide open 3-pointer. Missing shots was the theme the quarter for the Cavs, as they hit just seven shots. The Cavs were moving the ball though, even though they had just three assists.
The highlight of the quarter came when Delly scored three the hard way after getting hit while throwing a floater in.

Curry negated it though when he came down the floor and tossed the ball off the glass for a 3-point play of his own. Delly breathed on him a little too hard to trigger the foul call.
During the final four minutes of action, the Cavs were outscored 12-2. They missed six jumpers and refused to drive the ball to the basket. Draymond Green scored ten points, including two 3s, and handed out two assists for five points. Warriors up, 28-19.
Second Quarter
The Cavs turned up their defensive intensity in the second quarter to hold the Warriors to just 17 points on 31.6% shooting, and they were able to play catch up with some smart offensive play. Right out of the gate, Mo drew three freebies when Sean Livingston left his feet. The Cavs followed that heady play by playing tight defense, forcing five Warrior turnovers. They went on a 16-6 run during the first half of the quarter. LeBron was attacking the hoop, Love and TT both caught a passes deep in the paint for automatic baskets, and Irving and James exploited some mismatches for four points. The Cavs couldn’t continue their strong showing though. During the final two minutes of play, they were outscored 8-2. Klay and and Curry both beat the Cavs to their spots, which led to Iman fouling them each for a total of four free throws, which they hit.
LeBron led the Cavs with seven points on seven shots, and Klay scored six for the Warriors. After two quarters of shooting below 34%, the Cavs were down just three, 45-42.
Third Quarter
The Cavs played with fire in the third quarter, but didn’t get burned too badly. The Warriors tried to play faster and the Good Guys didn’t do anything to slow them down. To start the quarter, Irving hit a jumper over Bogut, who got switched onto him after a Mozzy pick. The Warriors then sprinted down the floor and Klay drove straight into Mozzy for two freebies. He hit the next five Warriors points, including a two off of an offensive board he grabbed and a three from a Curry cross court bail out pass. The Cavs didn’t panic though, as they traded baskets with the Warriors. They tried to trap Curry several times, but he found the open man each time and made the Cavs pay, whether it was with a Green dunk or the previously mentioned Thompson 3-pointer. The Cavs hit just just seven of their 25 shots, but they made sure to run out on each of their misses. The Warriors hit 7-19 in the quarter to go up, 64-59.
Fourth Quarter
The King started out the quarter posting up Ian Clark, who was about 25 pounds too little to handle the King. Livingston then did a post move of his own, hitting a turnaround jumper over J.R. Smith. Livingston would go on to score eight points in the quarter. The Cavs did their best to play hard defense, but they just kept getting called for fouls, putting the Warriors in the bonus with 7:07 left. And, they just couldn’t hit shots for much of the quarter. Irving missed a point blank layup and three-pointer on two consecutive possessions.

Delly prevented the Cavs from being blown out when the shots just wouldn’t drop. He nailed an a tough fading jumper in the middle of the paint, and he hit Love down low for a two pointer after rebounding his own miss. However, Delly wasn’t without fault. With 6:16 left and the Cavs down six, he threw an inbounds pass to Iggy. Shumpert chased Iggy down and fouled him. Of course, Iggy drained both freebies.
The Cavs bad luck continued. With 5:30 left, Love caught the ball right below the basket. Some of the Warriors pulled bats out of their shorts and hit Love repeatedly. He coughed the ball up, and the Warriors beat the Cavs in a 4-0n-5 situation for a Livingston dunk to go up by eight.
After another blown Love layup about a minute later, the Warriors ran down and got the ball to Green for a layup to go up by ten. At that point, LeBron ripped off two straight dunks, had a chase down block on Klay, and missed a shot at the rim, which Love tipped in, to bring the Cavs within four with 2:14 left. LeBron then missed three of four three throws down the stretch, and the Cavs were unable to get closer than 3-points, despite Iggy missing two free throws in the final 20 seconds of the game.
Gripes
1. The Cavs hit just five threes and took 30 of them. Whenever they couldn’t score, and it felt like they weren’t getting any calls from the refs, they jacked up 3-pointers. LeBron took five 3s and none of them were in the flow of the game.
2. The Wine & Gold had just 12 assists on 30 shots. During the first half of the game, they moved the ball, but during the second half, there was a lot of Le-Iso play, as other guys missed wide open looks. The King was getting to the rim at will, but he was met by multiple defenders and wasn’t getting calls no matter how hard he got hit.
3. The refs were very finicky this game. In the first quarter, go watch the play where Delly got his And-1. He was hit fairly hard. The following play when Curry got his And-1, Delly was trailing him and barely touched his jersey. Also take a look at the Love layup with 5:37 to go in the fourth. Love got a beat down and there was no call.
4. Mozgov was Timo the Terrible this game. Early on Mozgov was contesting shots quite well at the rim, but later in the game the Warriors figured out he’s garbage if he has to step out of the paint. The mega Timo the Terrible play came in the third quarter. At the 7:15 mark of the quarter Andrew Bogut rebounded a Brandon Rush missed 3-pointer. The Cavs’ defense was scrambled and Curry ended up with the ball. Mozov was on him. Curry dribbled by him and Mozgov grabbed his trailing arm. Curry sank an uncontested layup and drained the free throw. Timo scored zero points, grabbed just three rebounds, and was -15 in 14 minutes.
5. The Cavs allowed Shaun Livingston to go off. For some reason, he kept getting smaller defenders on him, and the Wine & Gold didn’t bother to help each other out. Livingston hit eight of his nine shots for 16 points.
6. The Warriors had 11 second chance points and the Cavs had 14. However, the Cavs had 17 offensive boards and the Warriors had eight. Cleveland has to convert any extra chances they get. In the second quarter, the Cavs had one possession with four offensive rebounds. They still couldn’t get a bucket.
7. Kyrie still has to play his way back. He’s not there yet, even though we saw a couple flashes. His late misses were disheartening.
8. Why no Richard Jefferson tonight? We saw James Jones, and I’m not sure there’s anything Jones gives you that Jefferson can’t do better, even playing power forward. I mean it was worth a shot that someone could hit an open three.
9. The Cavs’ played unbelievably soft at the rim when Curry got by Lebron and then Delly late. The paint wussiness here was as big as any of the Cavs’ misses. Kevin Love or LeBron has to at least make Curry earn these. Love refused to give hard fouls all game. Tristan should have been playing crunch time.

Hypes
1. The Cavs shot 31.6% from the floor and lost by just six points. They managed the clock for most of the game, and whenever the Warriors got out in transition they sprinted back to try and eliminate any easy shots.
2. Furthermore, they hit just five of their 30 3-point attempts. Most of their 3-point attempts were open. I can’t imagine the Cavs having another game where they just can’t drain their wide open shots.
3. Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson hit just two total 3-pointers. They had 37 points on 12-31 shooting. The Cavs prevented them from getting open looks at the 3-line and made them work off the ball more than they would have liked to.
4. The Cavs occasionally trapped Curry when he was using a pick. Everyone scrambled back after doing so and the damage was minimal. Green wasn’t making the Cavs pay every time, as someone was usually on their way to whoever he passed the ball to off of his roll to the rim. Blatt didn’t trap constantly, which helped keep the Warriors on their toes. Sometimes, it seemed like Curry would pass to the ball to Green instinctively, fearing an extra man was on the way. The Cavs wouldn’t be trapping and Green would be forced to contend with TT or Mozgov stationed right at the rim.
5. The Cavs face the Blazers tomorrow night. Hopefully they can pick up a win and get back on track.
“Luckily… the asteroid scenario is very likely not in play”
Hey you’re out there with Neil Degrasse Tyson, so if you DO get any inside info, pass it along, lol.
EVIL THANKS FOR KEEPING US REAL !!
If we knew an asteroid was coming in 3 years it’d be a great move. CP3 is best defensive point guard around. Would have best defensive backcourt around between him and Shumpert, and throw in Lebron at SF and we could lock up some wings. He whines and acts like an entitled baby a bit much, but is a helluva 2-way player. I better quit typing before I talk myself into this.
really tho? If you had to build a team for three years starting today, you’d want cp3 over Kyrie? Did you pay attention to what Kyrie accomplished in the playoffs before his injury last year? He was shredding teams. And he was hungry as hell.
Just for 3 years and only for defensive reasons. Would be nice to stick him on Curry and as far as offense goes he thus far is a far better offensive player than KI. Not shooter as KI is better and has been, but the whole creating for others part separates the two.
Again not giving up KI. Just interesting to think about whether it would end up working or not.
Luckily… the asteroid scenario is very likely not in play… You just don’t mortgage the future on a PG who’s about to be on the wrong side of 30…
I didn’t want to do this… but for all of you with short memories…
And also… this…
I won’t do that trade even with a prime CP3. His style of play won’t mesh with Lebron even if they’re best buddies.
JUST FOR SOMETHING TO BLOG ABOUT UNTIL GAME TIME—-NBATRADERUMORS —PROJECTED A IRVING / JR / VAREJAO TRADE TO CLIPPERS ( ACTUALLY WOULD END UP BEING 4 TEAMS INVOLVED —CAVS/ CLIPPERS / ROCKETS / NETS ) WE WOULD GET CP3 / BODJONOVIC / JOSH SMITH —–I SAY NO WAY !!—EVEN IF CP3 IS ONE OF LEBRON’S TIER 1 BUDS—GOING TO BE 31 SOON / GAME (ESPECIALLY FOR PT GD ) WILL START TO DECLINE —JUST THOUGHT I WOULD THROW OUT TO WASTE TIME AND GET YOUR COMMENTS
We don’t need new guards we need time to play together as a team. And Kyrie is already a better offensive guard than cp3. Defensively cp3 still has him beat. That would be a horrendous rocky colavito level error
That’s crazy talk… Kyrie is 23 and locked up for the next five years. He hasn’t even begun to scratch the surface of what he can achieve… Also, I’m just not a CP3 fan… I’ve seen way too many Clip games (even in person) where he’s just so underwhelming… especially on the offensive end… Just watch the Clips flounder with Blake out for at least the next two weeks…
I WILL BE UP WITH MRS NOMAD AND MY CHRISTMAS ALES
Any non-West Coasters staying up to follow the thread for tonight’s game?
Got a week of vacation left, so you betcha!
I’m there. Interested to see how we react on a back to back to Portland who haven’t played in since Wednesday, getting buried by N.ORL by 26. Regardless of what they say, the Cavs were amped up for GS and this is bound to be a tough game to get themselves in the right frame of mind. Used to be a betting strategy in College Football to bet against the teams that either were going to play Notre Dame the week or had played ND the week before because it would theoretically be hard for them to get up for… Read more »
A.C. IS THE 2ND COMING OF YOGI BERRA
I just now saw this… and it might be one of my favorite AC Tweets of the season so far… never change AC… ;)
RAPTORS BEAT THE BUCKS BY 21 —BEFORE THE START OF THE SEASON I WAS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE BUCKS THAN THE RAPTORS —-HAVE CHANGED MY THINKING ON THAT ( DO WE / SHOULD WE BE CONCERNED WITH THE RAPTORS / PLAYING TOUGH EVEN WITH VALUCINAS OUT ) WHAT IS GOING ON WITH THE BUCKS—J.PARKER STILL STRUGGLING SOMEWHAT ( ESPECIALLY SINCE HIM AND WIGGINS WERE CONSTANTLY BEING DEBATED AS WHO WOULD GO #1 )
Raps don’t scare me… Lowry, DeRozan and JV are nice players, but none are transcendent in the least. They have a better defense this year thanks to the additions of Carroll and Bismack, and they’ll probably get through one round of the playoffs this year, but still nothing to be scared about from the North… The Bucks haven’t really had any sort of PG play to speak of this year… MCW has been mostly terrible and Bayless has been injured lately. It also doesn’t help that Kidd is away from the bench with his hip surgery… Gonna be a long… Read more »
The Bucks have the athleticism that’s for sure, just missing a PG like EG says, and some bench pieces. They shoulda grabbed someone like B Knight to play point and maybe Zaza and J Dudley would be a couple of good bench veterans/producers. Oh wait, what? They had all those pieces and got rid of them for MCW and nothing?? Carry on….
KYRIE OUT FOR THE CAVS BUT ALSO LILLIARD OUT FOR PORTLAND —THIS HURTS THE BLAZERS MORE THAN KY BEING OUT FOR THE CAVS —-NEED A GOOD WIN TO GET ” THE BAD TASTE ” OUT OF OUR MOUTHS AND MORE POSITIVE CTB BLOGGING —GO CAVS !!
No Kyrie tonight (and I totally agree with the decision) but I definitely want to see the players that didn’t showed up yesterday to play their behind off tonight and I wish that yesterday’s game showed the whole team that they need to get step up their game to the next level specially on offense. Go C!
WHEN DO THE SPURS AND G.S. MEET / SURE IT WILL BE HYPED UP —-WILL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW EACH TEAMS MATCH UP—KNOWING POP HE MIGHT DECIDE THIS IS THE GAME TO REST HIS OLDER PLAYERS / JUST TO PISS OFF THE THE COMMISSIONER AND ALSO NOT TO SHOW ANYTHING TO G.S UNTIL IT ACTUALLY COUNTS
One final thought: I’m calling it now. Cavs win the rematch in January by 7 or more.
PS: I should have bet this last game: took the under and cavs to cover. If I ever get disposable income, I’m going to use it on gambling #mortgage#two kids#studentloans#car payment
I think we’ll be favored but only by 1 or 2 maybe. I think Cavs win as well, but i’m not willing to bet money on it, neither disposable nor monopoly.
Say what you want about him… but LeBron is the epitome of class… and a better man than I…
5 years 82 million this offseason got you D Green and TT. Since the salaries match, wonder if the Warriors will make that trade, lol? We can even throw in Smokin Joe Harris. Even EG would HAVE to be behind this hypothetical/impossible trade.
My brain says yes… but my heart, soul and self respect scream no… ;)
That is what makes Lebron so sought over for endorsements, advertisements ect. He has such poise and respect in tough situations . He is the face of the NBA the commissioner loves and embraces. No comment on the above . He wouldn’t understand.
Omg are you really gonna go on and on over someone disagreeing with a post of yours? In a discussion forum? I’m sorry, if i’d have known you were so thin skinned i would’ve never posted it.
Not thin skinned . Thought you said you don’t name call? Just fed up on the frequent trolls you make on people when they are simply trying to make an informative comment.
Thin skinned just means defensive, but you win, I quit.
We’re going to crush them in the finals. If they even make it. I’m starting to wonder if they can get past san antonio. They didn’t have to face them last year. LMA is capable of taking D Green to the woodshed, and Leonard can shut down curry or whoever he wants. Duncan is still one of the top defenders in the league and every player on that team plays smart. Pop is not afraid of Golden State, I promise you. He respects them, but he ain’t afraid. I think we may see a Spurs Cavs finals, which concerns me… Read more »

As they try to wrap up AFC South title, Texans will start Brandon Weeden at QB vs Titans.
Don’t the Texans have literally all of the former Browns QBs? Hoyer… Weeden… I heard they even tracked down Charlie Frye at his bagboy job at the local Acme and signed him up as their emergency third starter…
LOL! Poor Charlie. At least Akron did something nice for him recently — retired his number or put him in its HOF.
Kyrie is sitting out tonight. No back-to-backs for him yet.
That is enormous pressure on Lebron. Hope we get better shooting tonight from rest of the team.
I think they’ll be fine… Lillard and McCollum are both still banged up…
Plus it’s not like KI is helping team much right now. Just have to live with him taking time to get back into the flow, and to trust his knee fully.
Jason Lloyd says Lillard is out also, so that more than makes up for KI being out.
Of course there is Delly controversy in the game. The ‘Delly- Hop” http://www.smh.com.au/sport/basketball/matthew-dellavedova-turns-heads-on-nba-christmas-day-with-dellyhop-clock-stopping-technique-20151225-glv2gp.html
This shouldn’t be controversy. Its smart basketball. Foul the worst foul shooter on the team before the clock burns any time. No one was injured.
Fans constantly complain about athletes who just rely on their athleticism to succeed. Delly is the opposite. He studies the game in excruciating detail and takes advantage of every possible strategy he can to give him a .1% chance of being better. Its called being a professional, and he should be celebrated it for it.
Also, I’m sure this was called in by Blatt and coaching staff… especially after Doc did it (successfully) the other night for the Clips…
Out of topic:
Who else liked the uniforms the team wore in this game? Man, just match the script of that jerseys to our current one and that SHOULD be our road uniforms then. I like our home and alternate navy’s, but our current road unis were ruined a little by that gold trims. Hopefully they take cue on this design for our next threads..
Gor ead this and stop paniciking Ct tha Panic blog.

They should change this blog to Cols:the Bong
It would definitely give people a good idea of what to expect…
It,is a good read and It resembles the majority of the posts here. Try not be so dramatic with saying this site is Panicing. It is annoying. And once again I think to myself why did I bother
He’s a good writer. Good link. I don’t think the overall tone from the comments here demonstrate panic. Seems more on the lines of venting their frustrations on a Christmas day where expectations were very high.
That’s just the Cols default button response… any whiff of people questioning LBJ or this team’s chances and the “panic” labels come out… C’mon Cols, even you have to admit that’s so 2014… ;)
Shooting 10-26 and 4-9 from the line while grinding the offense to a halt on several occasions is not great. LeBron played at the level of the rest of the team last night.
And LeBron had the big pair of missed free throws with a minute and a half left when he could have made it a 2-point game.
So Cavs shot like crap. But almost won thanks to LeBron being great. Next time they will get them. It would’ve been nice for Delly to show up last night,
How about all those who caught his neat passes but couldn’t make the subsequent lay-up? Love, James etc. I note you don’t mention them. Yes, he shot badly just like everybody else. A few more free throws by your hero in crunch time would have helped immensely too.
On a separate note, I was amazed to see and hear the breathless reporting that Mr Curry’s parents needed to rush to his side when he was getting his leg worked on. Really, he is a grown man (and a father to boot) who wasn’t carried off on a stretcher after being knocked into tomorrow or having his leg broken in 23 places. He walked off the court and to the rooms under his own steam, obviously he wasn’t dying. Go and live your own lives Curry family. I would have thought his dad would understand considering his history.
Lebron wasn’t exactly great in that one. He himself tweeted that he played ‘horrible’.
He was horrible, at least for his standards. Too many hero 3’s and ignorant long 2’s to go along with all the ball stopping Iso. Ft’s come and go, it’s not like he isn’t trying to do the best he can, so I can live with that. The other stuff though…….
Is Christmas a day of defense? The NBA’s 5 best offensive teams were in action yesterday and scored 89, 96, 84, 83, and 94. Only 1 of the 10 teams scored 100, and that was Chicago of all teams, though they were playing no D OKC.
The Cavs won’t win anything unless Lebron stops running LeIso. That kills the cavs everytime. Everyone said last year in the finals that the reason Lebron went LeIso is because Kyrie and Love were out and that was our only viable option. I disagee whole heartedly and last night proved it. The Cavs had there entire roster and from the beginning of the game to the end we saw wayyyyyyyyy to much LeIso. It’s so annoying. The ball has energy. When you touch the ball, run offensive sets that involve movement, and backdoor screens it just makes it easier to… Read more »
Self proclaimed King?? You Skip Bayless?
Haha na man. But cmon. The dude has Chosen One tatted on his back.
Oh goodness. Complaining about LeBron when no one on his team could shoot the freaking ball is so annoying. The star took over and almost won the game by himself. It’s too bad no one else was able to shoot.
We didn’t make shots, but Chris is completely correct the Cavs won’t beat elite teams playing LeIso no matter what. At least you have to try to move the ball and hope guys can get a few easy buckets. LBJ needs to work harder off the ball and get the ball in more impactful positions… not expend energy after he received it and the defense is set.
I agree, that when full strength, there’s no place for LeIso except at end of Q’s. Too many weapons to settle for that.
I had no problem with the way Lebron played. Mosgov , JJ and Shump made 0 baskets, Love had only 10 pts and Kyrie shot 5/16. They failed Lebron. It’s that simple. I replied without name calling. ( not directed to you) It can be done.
Good article by Terry Pluto today. It begins with Delly . . .
http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/index.ssf/2015/12/cleveland_cavaliers_have_terry_31.html#incart_river_index
Holy cow. Terry Pluto ain’t resting on his laurels. Bball ref lineup data? We’re going to have c to up or game here. Great post.
I’ve been noticing that all season so far most the Cavs role players haven’t showed up in most of the Cavs road games.
Shump said he was salty before this game and was totally absent yesterday. The same with Mozgov.
Overall when the Cavs bench begin to contribute consistently they will begin to win games more easily and consequently LBJ, KI and Love won’t have the carry the load that much.
The concern is, we’ve had a number of bad shooting nights lately.
Great recap! Do you guys remember last year when the Cavs beat the dubs at the Q (regular season game) pretty easily? On that game LeBron’s jumper was flawless and the Cavs handle them pretty easily. If the Cavs can find a way to make it to the finals against the dubs( if they make it too) and Lebron can have at least 3 or 4 decent games in terms of his FG% (and hit his FT’s too) the Cavs could end up win it all. But if LeBron can’t find his rythm then Kyrie will need to become the… Read more »
As long as Lebron attacks with reckless abandon and dominate the post, broke jump shot or not, I’m fine with it. We have a huge chance.
Hard to bitch too much. Here’s the diff: Livingston grabbed TT around the neck to prevent a layup. Cavs watched Curry glide to two in crunch time. Warriors wanted it more and were more willing to get dirty to win.
Difference is TT shoots 50 % and Curry 90 %. Not worth fouling him, because 1, don’t need the foul trouble, 2, don’t need to give up a 3 point play (which they did anyways a few times) and 3, don’t need to possibly get called for a flagrant.
Nyet. You have to at least contest, and you have to let guys know they’re going to pay a physical price for coming into the lane.
I just think it’s wasted energy. I’m all for doing it agains AI or Dray or anyone else that’s not auto from the free throw line, but the way the nba is against flagrants nowadays, its tough to send a ‘message’ without detrimental results to the team.
What was going on in the lane on offense? Either 1) we can’t hit Layups 2) golden state has the worlds most amazing shot blockers 3) they were parked in the lane and not getting three seconds 4) they were hacking us like crazy every time 5) they just rotate really really well
5-30 at three is one thing but missing that many close ups is painful
The officials consistently miss defensive three seconds. Festus Ezeli was in there constantly.
We were also getting mauled down low with very few calls. It is discouraging when you can’t make a three and you drive the lane only to be completely punished without a call. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a player get away with more calls than Draymond, the Donkey, Green. If EG could find a picture of Donkey from Shrek, I think that’d be appropriate.
I was yelling the same thing. Get Jefferson in! I was surprised Blatt went with the same defensive liabilities of Mo and JJ in at the very same time like he did in Knicks game. The warriors took advantage of that as well as Mosgov the pitifu. He needs to get benched. It worked before. There seem to be alot of weird mismatches. One that stood out was Mosgov getting blown by from Curry with an easy dunk. It was like he helped him. The Cavs fell for the same trap as many teams before them of taking unfruitful 3’s… Read more »
This can’t be a serious post right? You really want us to take mid-range shots, the worst shot there is, instead of all the open 3’s the Cavs did? Classic 2nd guessing after they missed most of them, but the Cavs are one of the best 3 point shooting teams in the league, and if they took 50 a game I’d be good with it. The only Cav i’m comfortable with taking mid range shots is Mo and KI and I’d rather both took 3’s instead. I guess Andy too, but he’s not getting minutes. As far as RJ, he’s… Read more »
Of course you would reply in the predictable sarcastic tone. It is possible to disagree without hurling insults. People do it all the time on here. This is why this is the # 1 blog. I NEVER said not to take 3’s ever again. Let’s make that perfectly clear. On the mid range game there is this from NBA analyst on Dan LeBatard Show Dec 1st. ” Warriors seem to be more than fine allowing teams to make as many mid-range baskets they want. So much that they have actually allowed opposing teams to make those mid-range baskets more than… Read more »
The ONLY thing that I said was ‘this can’t be a serious post right?’. Sarcastic, maybe. An insult though? And let’s think about that analysts statement. Why do you think the best defensive team in the NBA the last 2 years concedes mid range shots. It’s not like they don’t have the athletes to cover such shots. It’s not like they couldn’t come up with a scheme to defend them. Is it maybe because that’s the EXACT shot they want other teams to shoot?? The goal of good offensive teams lately is shots in the paint and 3’s, under normal… Read more »
As far as Jefferson, many of the writers and other NBA analysts said the same thing. But you choose my comment to object to? Why didn’t you object to the writers who said it before me?? It doesn’t make sense. Everyone understands the pecking order. Everyone understands the stats too. I am annoyed I am taking the trouble to give you the link. Here goes James jones http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jonesja02.html 35% fg% 3.5 pg ( I have to break this apart because of comment monster)
Actually I did object to Udog’s post suggesting more RJ. Kind of going overboard to do it everywhere.
Richard Jefferson http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/j/jefferi01.html
Jefferson is a 2 way player that WILL defend. He’s not a 1 trick pony that only knows how to foul people as the only means as defense. His fg% is 45% and can give us twice as many pts per game than Jones.
You can’t make the tiniest of mistakes against Warriors.
First of all, JJ played 2 minutes against GS, which I don’t agree with, but in the end, 2 minutes doesn’t really matter and I would be fine if RJ played those minutes instead. He is by no means a useless deadbeat. He IS however our 9th/10th man and isn’t going to see much action in big games unless there are injuries, that’s just the way it is. But since we’re using stats, this year RJ has a ORtg of 103 and a DRtg of 104, for -1, while JJ has a ORtg of 107 and DRtg of 101 for… Read more »
All do respect taximike. You often come on here and scroll comments you disagree with and insult or name call rather than just simply disagree in a respectful manner. It’s not necessary. We are all adults on here.
Honestly not trying to be disrespectful, and would never name call. I do disagree a lot, but not in a ‘Hot take, Skip Bayless type of way and I try to back it up with numbers. I have learned not to disagree with Col’s ‘Lebron never does wrong and is always the best’ posts, so I am learning…….
So are Dave, Evil Genius, Amico, Lloyd are completely wrong as well on their take that RJ would be a better choice. How many games did you use in your analysis to get the stat that actually shows JJ is the better choice? Did you bother to look at the last 2 years as well wheras RJ shoots in the 40 % on 3’s? I bet you in the long run, we will see RJ more than JJ . And yes if you disagree with the writers point of view, take it up with them than do a back door… Read more »
As I said, I disagreed with Udog a couple posts up, and the main reason I replied to your post is that I disagreed with 2 points you made, so it was like killing 2 birds with one stone. JJ is a 40% 3 point shooter last 3 years, and also for his career. RJ is at 38% for career and 41% for last 3 years, so pretty similar numbers. But I believe RJ is better defensively and has a much better all around offensive game than JJ. But I already stated that I would have no problem using RJ… Read more »
Think the game got in the Cavs’ heads a little, especially ‘Bron and Love. Love missed a boatload of shots and LeBron took a lot of dumb ones. But everyone missed their share. Blatt could have pushed different buttons, but he can’t make jumpers. Tough loss, but a fair one. Wish the Cavs had punished Curry more.
I wanted the win on paper, too. But a regular season game between two championship contenders is more than just a W or an L in one regular-season game. It’s a chance for them to feel each other out, to start getting a sense of what the matchup would look like in a seven game series. The real “winner” of this game was whichever team managed to get more information out of it, and we have no way of knowing that. If we were able to find out more about what we need to do vs. the Dubs in a… Read more »
As of this moment I think we are the 3rd best team in the league. Not bad from what we’ve been through. All the stuff inside and out, to be in this position is I think ok so far. I’m happy and excited that we haven’t peaked yet. So as the other top teams. But because we just started to have everyone back I think we still have two more gears others don’t have that we can show to be the best team with the thropy come June. Two gears I say, one is a fully functional team with a… Read more »
Pretty sure most of the namecalling of Green was me… and I respectfully refuse to stop doing it… ;)
I’ll still won’t call him any names. But I want to sucker punch him too. And joahkim Noah.
Alright fam you win ;)
I think Livingston is a heady player, but I’ve never seen him shoot that well.
Does anybody think we should have sent in Jefferson to negate Livingston? We could have used both his length on defense on Livingston and his outside shooting. Maybe next time.
Like David said, we really should have tried out RJ. To see if his shot would go down, if nothing else.
I agree, RJ could have helped our 3pt shooting. If we hadn’t missed so many open looks (and FTs) we likely win that one; KI will be getting better (not there yet); we dominated the boards. Lot to like about this team…still haven’t seen its ceiling.
Im looking forward to this.
No RJ was not the answer. Who should he have played over?? JJ’s 2 minutes? I would be fine with that, but I don’t see the need to play him over Iman or JR.
I think Bill Simmons (or Joe House) said on his podcast, that he thinks the Cavs are a bad match up for the Warriors, if the Cavs are healthy. But he believes the Spurs would be a bad match up for the Cavs, mainly because of Leonard and Pop.
Pop is the most dangerous Lebron opponent IMO.
And I think the biggest key on beating the Spurs or Warriors is having Kyrie go havoc. Or at least be hot enough that they can’t clog on Lebron. Kyrie is a nightmare and scheme changer on defenses
I agree with this statement. We’re not going to win anything without Kyrie going off in the playoffs. And we shouldn’t.
Good recap, DW… The Cavs lost this game more than the Warriors won it, IMHO… It’s pretty hard to beat say the 76ers when you shoot 31.6% from the field, let alone the 28-1 reigning champs. Even with the horrific shooting, which was more a product of missing open shots than the stingy GS defense, the Cavs still had chances to come out victorious. Free throws also did them in (they still shot 72%, but missed crucial ones down the stretch), as did not having an answer for the midrange game of Livingston… I am heartened though by the kind… Read more »
LMAO You are so funny! I kept saying the same thing over my mothers at Christmas dinner. All I want for Christmas is someone to punch Green in the mouth.
Yep, he’s annoying.
I was going to mention the FTs. Lebron has to lock that down. Lost by 6 and he missed 5.
Gotta think RJ had a health or injury issue. Pretty sure this was his first DNP of the year.
I can’t wait for Kyrie to get going. If we’re healthy in June, we win the title.
On a lighter note… This front-row fan was busted in the middle of mocking LeBron:

She looked like a complete idiot on national TV.
