Live Thread: Cavs vs Hornets
2015-01-02First things first…O-H!…
The Cavs are in Charlotte tonight to take on the Hornets. Â Both teams are missing critical pieces – LeBron for the Cavs, Al Jefferson and Lance Stephenson for the Hornets.
It’s getting to the point where the Cavs need Ws one way or the other. Â The East is shaping up to be pretty competitive at the top and they certainly don’t want to be without home court advantage to in the playoffs.
David Blatt is talking about simplifying the offense. Â No offense to him but the offense has seemed pretty simplistic to me all season. Â Maybe tonight they’ll stop trying so hard and just get the ball in the hands of Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love. Â The pick and roll/pop is still one of the harder moves to cover if executed correctly.
Let’s talk about it here!
Evil, Arch, the rest of ya’ll: ASSEMBLE!
Has Dion EVER taken a shot in the paint, make or miss, without screaming “And one!”? If I was a ref, I’d be teeing him up at least once a game.
(And just as I was typing that, Waiters has the nicesteal and layup, with no audible scream.)
Great steal by Dion! Cavs have like 72 steals this quarter
They need to get KLove some more outside shots
Dion is now like that character from Guardians of the Galaxy, Groot, who just says “I’m Groot.” Dion just uses the words “And one!” for every expression.
Lol I thought the same….
This makes me laugh because our neighbor went as griot for Halloween and got into character with it too. Dion seems to think it earns him close calls but I think they refuse it because of the mouthy attitude.
Dumb foul by Dion….
WEAK bailout by the refs. Terrible foul call on Dion
Playing fast… Favorable for them
Lots of hands in passing lanes now for the Cavs. Love it when they’re this active on D. Makes all the difference, especially without a rim protector.
I wonder if they had an interior presence if they would get sloppy in their on ball defense. It seems that they can engage in spurts and when they do their offensive schemes are smooth
The Matrix actually FINISHED a shot at the rim. Dion with a couple of nice drives as well.
I love how AC and Fred spent two minutes discussing how Mark Price had been helping MKG strip down and rebuild his jump shot all summer, and then almost on cue he rises up and shoots an ugly brick. Genius
Now they’re playing at the pace they should be
Finally getting physical on the Defensive end.
Walker just drilled Miller in the nads.
I swear MKG pushes off EVERY time he goes up for a rebound.
That was an amazing pass. Just awesome.
GREAT pass from Kyrie to TT in transition
Now it’s time for love to hit the low post or run high pick and roll with kyrie. Cavs could put some points up or get the hornets in foul trouble.
TT cleaning up Dion’s trash
Will doom ever get the memo that he doesn’t get foul call on slashing drives and his finishing at the rim is just not good. Play excellent perimeter defense and spot up for open 3’s
Dion not doom. This iPhone is either a comedian or smarter than a 5 th grade-er
Maybe Doom is more appropriate in games like this
I like “Doom”
Finally playing some decent D…. :)
This is what I thought the team would. A scrambling team on D that can go on huge runs powered by the three point shooting.
They certainly look better than they did in the first half.
Waiters checks in. Let’s hope he’s good Dion this half
I don’t know what the hell happened, but that KLove near injury has completely re-energized this team for the moment
“He’s ON FIRE”
NOW HE CAN’T MISS!! RAINING THREES FROM LOVE!
Boy he really wanted that heat check three
Maybe that needed to happen! KLove playing with purpose now!
Good to see him back up and moving AND HITTING A THREEE!!
I think this is serious.
@ChrisBHaynes: Kevin Love is on his feet and walking on his own power.
Well, that’s going to be a problem. KLove’s knee just buckled and he’s not getting up.
My 6 year old said, daddy love is not getting up is he going to visit lebron ? Welcome to Cleveland fan frustration son
This is turning into another disaster season. Uncle!
My frustration is that the guys seem to think dribbling is the same as ball movement. It seems the guys stand around more than move without the ball. Considering the talent on the cavs you would think they would move without the ball. Elite high school teams are more active than the cavs. Is it just me, or do they stand and watch on offense?
The only ones who seem to move without the ball are TT and Kyrie.
I suppose that “floor spacing” means guys stand on the perimeter and watch until they receive a pass. It seems that last year that’s what we needed most.
Well, I was wildly optimistic on my score prediction for this game. Looks like both teams will be in the 80s. Still hopeful Cavs can get the lid off the rim and free up the outside shots with some drive and kick action.
Couple of timely steals and driving buckets helping them get back into the game
I don’t know if anyone is watching this game or the live thread (except for Tom and Arch). Sorry for the steady stream of consciousness, but writing about it helps me cope.
I’m in eastern PA tonight and can’t watch the game, so your play by play is all I have (and the game stats on NBA.com). So thanks for your stream of consciousness. Sharing ones thoughts like that can sometimes make people feel vulnerable. I’m glad you’re not insecure.
Very little ball movement right now. Lots of ISO ball. Cavs bricking away at a new low of 28.6% for the game. Yikes
I’m not sure what kind of offense Dion is running out there, but it’s got nothing to do with what the rest of the team is doing.
yeah he just looks lost all the time.
Someone PLEASE STOP Marion from shooting the ball
Hornets winning the boards 25-13 right now
This is what happens when you miss outside shots early in the clock. One chance and out. Defense is working hard but shooting still mostly broken.
Man, Roberts’ shot looks like one of Tim Hardaway’s line drives
Nothing worse than a missed three that leads to a transition three for the opposition. Just a deflating series of events.
cavs have been fighting hard on D this whole game
Some great D and a sweet alley oop from Delly to TT!
GET THAT WEAK STUFF OUTTA HERE TT!!
Despite having both TT and KLove out there, Cavs still only getting one opportunity on each possession right now.
Love still cheating in for the rebound instead of defending his man on the perimeter.
AC with an actual astute point that Cavs seem to be playing to the opposition’s pace lately instead of playing at their own pace. They need to dictate that more to be successful.
Aside from the Delly Trey and a singular ugly Matrix FT, only Kyrie and KLove have scored.
Ugh! Our bench really blows. It looks like we have bad Dion tonight.
I don’t think even the Matrix knows where the ball is going to go on his drives…
Dion in the role of bad ISO LBJ tonight
Dion turnover leads to transition 3
At least Maxiell still can’t hit free throws.
Man, when TT isn’t out there, Cavs really only get one shot per trip
Dion seems so out of sync with the rest of the offense
Haywood looks like he’s moving quicker out there, but he’s still a step slow
I thought Maxiell had retired. Man I used to hate that guy when he played for the Pistons.
Great drive and kick by Kyrie, but unfortunately Dion couldn’t hit the open three. Would love for someone to get hot from the outside tonight.
rough start for Tristan
He’s taking on four guys every possession. Refs letting the Hornets pack the paint it seems
Cody trying to make the Cavs sorry they ever traded his brother. This is where we miss Andy.
WOW! I didnt think Zellers could dunk like that!
Lots of energy on D tonight, I agree. Nice drive by Kyrie
DELLY TREY!!! Good to see him hit that shot early
great shot by Delly there. Cavs moving the ball and moving bodies
the Cavs team defense is playing really well out of the gate.
Nice to see Kevin Love with the no-hesitation jumper too.
Mike Miller did a great job on that steal and outlet for the KLove dunk.
Lots of activity on both ends for KLove so far. Keep it up Kev!
Nice to see KLove on the receiving end of a TD pass
MKG’s jump shot… ugly as ever
While I hope Cavs win this one going away, I still love when we play Charlotte because I love to watch Bitch Smack and would love to see him in the wine and gold
I-O! The Buckeyes should be the perfect example to the Cavs that they can win without their leader on offense. Here’s hoping Kyrie and KLove can do their best Cardale Jones impressions.
I’ll go out on the New Year limb and say Cavs 108-94
