Live Thread: Hawks @ Cavs, Game Three
2015-05-24We can almost taste it. That is, everyone except for Tom (love ya, buddy).
In our email chains since game one, I will openly admit that pretty much everyone involved in C:TB has spent far, FAR more time talking about the Warriors than the Hawks. Actually, I’m not sure I can remember a single instance of any of the bloggers discussing the Hawks for any extended period of time.
But, and I don’t think I’m too far off-base here, I’m guessing that’s where most Cavs fans are right now.
Really, is that surprising? I think we can be forgiven if we’re not terrified by the name “Kent Bazemore” in the starting lineup. Nor are we intimidated by a hobbled Demarre Carroll. Long, long gone are the days of us worrying about Kyle Korver going off, and it would appear that the offensive rebounding tandum of Tristan and Mozzy are too much for what we can now understand to be an undersized Hawks front court.
Still, it seems naive to look too far ahead. For one thing, a year ago even being at this point seemed way outside the realm of reality – maybe it’s time to enjoy the trip we’re on. For another, the Hawks certainly aren’t dead yet. Just ask the Clippers.
Finally, there ain’t no way ANYONE is matching up with GS with a hobbled point guard. Fingers crossed that brace works, Kyrie!
I don’t want to be a Debbie downer – I still have complete faith of where this is going. JR is the man, TT and Timofey are WAY more than we thought they were, and Lebron is finally back to being Lebron; those things (especially the last) will always give the Cavs a chance. I’m just here to put it all into perspective – lets not get ahead of ourselves, take this one day at a time, and enjoy awesome basketball as long as we can.
And for God’s sake, lets pray Draymond Green can’t shut the King down in a seven game series!
CAVS have to be setting a record for misses at the rim.
Too many threes but they keep going in.
LBJ is 0-9 after three misses on that last point blank series… Yet Cavs are only down 3… #notworried…
holy shit guys we can’t make layups tonite….not feeling to good about this
The Bron bot glitched out again…
It makes me sad that Matrix can’t hit shots anymore…
DELLY FROM PARMA!!!!
Delly from Fred’s McLeod!
JR Smack!!!!!!!
Totally fine with Schrooter taking threes… JR BLOCK!!!
Hawks guards have mastered the travel in the paint.
Dennis taught them the “Euro-step”
JFJ missed because it was inside the line…
Can’t let Shelvin Mack go Scrub-Fuego…
Rachel Nichols going with the leather tonight…
Larry Drew can hardly contain himself
despite everything Cavs could be down 3 and need to make stops….really think delly needs to stop shooting…think he’s had 4 fga
He’s still made more shots than Bron…
Nah. If they’re open, shoot. Don’t stop the offense, especially with the Cavs rebounders.
CHAMP! Crafty…
Banana in the tailpipe!!!!!
LOL
Never thought I’d see the Delly, JR, Matrix, JFJ, TT lineup EVER in the playoffs…
Especially in the first quarter
Hahahaa sooo true, surprised Marion is coming into the games VS ATL. Only dependable scorer in that lineup is JR or a Alley Oop to Tristan
Good fight by JFJ defending Carroll on a curl/drive.
JR FINGER ROLL!!
This lineup is trouble…
missing layups but hitting 3’s weird start to offensive game
Two quick fouls on Shump tho…
Why the hell didnt Lebron just drive the damn ball ?
SHUMPTASTIC!!! FROM EUCLID!!
JR SWISH!!
Bron with the angry ball slap on that last rebound…
LeBron is playing like garbage offensively.
JR with a shot on his first touch…
Bron’s three point shot still broken…
We seem to always start sluggishly. We finish strong, which is whats important, but always seem to start slow. Wonder if thats a Blatt thing, just like terrible 3 qtrs after a mind-numbing halftime talk was a Mike Brown thing
why lebron is shooting 3s is beyond me he needs to go after hawks and horford especially to get fouls….he’ll get them tonite at home
I dont find there is any energy from the Cavs, no killer instinct
The Hawks may be better with Bazemore in the line up.
Teague with yet another walk… smh…
Nice job by LeBron there to deny the pass
SHUMP!
Hawks are moving the ball well and the Cavs are taking too long to get into their offensive sets.
Mozgov’s gotta be able to finish one of these at the rim.
Someone tweeted K. Love in the building, looking good, no arm sling
Several second chance shots on one possession and nothing to show for it. Tough. Horford is a nice touch for a bigger guy.
Good timeout. Way too many open looks for horford. The Hawks finally figured out he’s their best offensive option.
any time Moz doesn’t dunk he needs to be benched….need to sit him and bring in JJ
Gonna have to take Moz out early if Horford is going to be hitting that shot…
CAVS playing like they won the series already.
Not a great shooting start for Cavs…
Ugly ugly ugly start!
Heavy dose of Millsap and Horford early
Maybe he’s feeling it too much…
Barkley on the @cavs: “Two reasons they’re not going to let down: number 1 – LeBron, number 2 – this place is on fire.”
Just another game where Delly is dominating the Cavs’ offense.
Delly feeling it early…
Smart play by Delly there…
His in game iq is high. His athletic ability doesn’t match but it doesn’t matter when 23 suits up.
Delly going Harden on em
Was at a wedding yesterday. Some drunk dude was saying that he felt Lebrun doesn’t need kyrie and thus is his FU statement. I think that is embarrassing With a full strength Hawks I think the Hawks could have taken it to 7 games if kyrie was out.
Does Lebron still do the powder in the air bit?
Did anyone see Budenholzer’s dead man walking style pregame speech? Ye gods he looked defeated.
I thought the same thing. if that was supposed to be motivational, I was extremely underwhelmed.
BTW that Meme pic is awesome!! Lol
Sheesh, Mallory, could you have put up a bigger jinx?
Kenny thinks that Delly is the weak link on the team and that Teague has to go after them for the hawks to have a chance. I wonder if he has seen the stats on how Delly has shut down Teague and Shroder.
Or at least the weka link of the starting 5 …
Well, he’s not entirely wrong. Out of the starting 5, Delly is the weakest link. He was only answering the question as posed to him but he even paused before answering because he couldn’t immediately think of someone.
Let’s hope the Cavs approach this game the right way from the opening tip and give no hope to the Hawks!!
Let’s go Cavs!!
Is it just me or does Teague have that deer in headlight look every time they cut to him. Dude doesn’t look confident at all but maybe thats his personality.
totally. He seems introverted. Could be partly why he isn’t taking over for ATL when we are basically daring him to beat us

Kyrie Irving (knee) is OUT for Game 3 #NBAPlayoffs
Breakfast time here in Western Australia. Not a huge coffee drinker, but I have been inspired by Delly’s approach to his starting 5 diet and have had not one but two coffees.
Boing boing boing!!! Let’s Go!!!!
Haha, thats awesome. Go Cavs!
TT reportedly bloodied (hopefully didn’t break) Moz’s nose in warm-ups…

Phil taking the high road with regard to JR, Shump and Pablo… then goes all “get off my lawn” ranting about teams that rely on the three-point shot…

It’s so hard/distracting for me to not look ahead. One of my best friends down here in South America is from Frisco, and he is a diehard Dubs/Niners/Giants fan. He also went to U. of Oregon, so I roasted him when Ohio State (my alum) rubbed them in it.
I sooo desperately do not want to him to get his revenge and have to hear it until next NBA season. Sports: making and breaking friendships.
Golden State could be fascinating. I think the West has been overhyped this year and that in reality only the Warriors are a championship calibre team (and possibly the Spurs who I cannot believe lost to the Clippers). Houston are massively overrated and so a Warriors sweep there doesn’t bother me. The tough Pelican and Grizzly series show pretty clearly that they are not invincible. We should win the rebound battle every night and LeBron can beat anyone. The rebounding seems a massive reason why we are defending 3’s so well. The best way to get open 3s is in… Read more »
Warriors have had the easiest road to the finals in the West in 15 years.
Headed to PJ McIntyre’s to watch the game if anyone is out that way!
1. LeBron lit up GSW last time. No one on there team matches up. Every supposed LeBron stopper gets annihilated. Leonard. Butler. Carroll. Green in the regular season…
2. Don’t harsh our high. This is fun. Stop worrying about the Warriors and just imbibe.
4. With LeBron anything is possible. Never forget that.
What happened to 3?
3: ???
There ya go.
I agree a lot about the supposed LeBron stoppers.
Some can slow him down (Kawhi is the best) but it seems more often than not that it’s the media trying to find someone who can “match up” to LeBron for a good narrative.
Last year’s Heat team didn’t lose because Kawhi stopped LeBron – they lost due to the Spurs winning basically every other match up by a large margin.
I love cols irrational, binge-fueled confidence game. I’m all in with ya! Cheers!
Lets just hope the Rockets pull an Olynic on Green or Thompson and even this up a little, they are way too healthy
Nah… no need for that. Would rather play them full strength…
