Live Thread: Pacers @ Cavs
2015-11-08
Heading into the seventh game of the season, there’s a lot to of reasons for the Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans to be happy with how the 2015-2016 campaign has started. After a 5-1 start, the Cavaliers are currently tied with the Toronto Raptors for the second best record in the Eastern Conference. Even more encouraging is their +10.2 point differential, second only to the Golden State Warriors in the entire NBA. LeBron James looks as explosive as ever. Mo Williams has been tremendous on the offensive end. Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson are both among the top ten in the NBA in rebounds per game. Matthew Dellavedova seems to have taken a major step forward as an offensive player. Richard Jefferson seems like a huge upgrade over Shawn Marion and Mike Miller.
Despite all of those positives, there are still areas that the Cavaliers both can and need to improve upon before they are truly the title contender we all expect them to be. Much of this improvement will simply come when Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert return to action. With J.R. Smith recently missing time due to a bone bruise in his knee as well as quadriceps tendinitis, the Cavaliers have been without three critical rotation players. This has been part of the reason why recent games against the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have been closer than one would expect.
Injuries aren’t the only reason these games have been close though. Like many of the more talented teams in the NBA, the Cavaliers have a habit of coasting at times, particularly against lesser opponents. My wife and I went to Friday night’s game against Philadelphia, and the Cavs’ on/off switch had never been more apparent. Throughout the game, the Cavaliers would build a lead against the Sixers, only to take their foot (feet?) off the pedal the last few minutes of each quarter and let Nerlens Noel and company back into the game. As EvilGenius pointed out in his recap, the Cavaliers were outscored 39-10 over the last two minutes of each quarter combined. While this may not have hurt them against the 76ers, bad habits like this would likely cost the Cavaliers a game against a more dangerous opponent.
The Indiana Pacers could very well be the opponent who takes advantage of the Cavaliers’ complacency. After starting the season 0-3, the Pacers have battled back to .500 after defeating the Miami Heat 90-87 on Friday night. Paul George was absolutely magnificent against the Heat, torching them for 36 points along with 12 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block. Indiana is in the midst of a transformation from the plodding defense-first style that had served them so well in recent years to the kind of up tempo pace-and-space style that is so prevalent in the league today. They’re going to have their fair share of hiccups along the way, but with George, along with Monta Ellis and George Hill, the Pacers are capable of upsetting any team in the league.
Game time is 3:30 EST. Fans can watch on Fox Sports Ohio and listen on WTAM 1100. Tune in and go “All In” with the Cavaliers as they try to earn their sixth victory in a row.
That screen on Delly was hilarious. Memories of Draymond
If LeBron could reliably hit outside shots this offense would look so much better
More than that wish love was knocking down threes at the same rate as those last two years in Minny.
Good thing Hill has been mostly bricklaying so far….
Kevin has been beaten on the boards a few times now….
Cause no one else is boxing out. He can’t out rebound three free rebounder’s under the boards
Yet he still has six boards already…
I can hear windhorst scribbling out love trade rumors as we speak.
Hahahaha. So true!!!
Much better looking shot from LBJ that time….
Straight up and down. His shot is always short when he fades away unnecessarily.
Love and Mo not playing great.
Ugh. Mo. It’s called defense.
They can’t seem to really handle Moz in interior.
Mo is WAY off today…
And getting exposed defensively as well… Don’t mind the matador style when his shot is falling…
K-Love looks so small, weak, and unathletic
I’m not seeing what you’re seeing….
Not sure how much more success he had finishing against length in Minny, but based on the eye test he has certainly had trouble since he got to Cleveland. Not sure if the weight loss helped in that regard.
Whoa in air hand change oop!!!
Delly looking sharp today. Nate, Tom P., and Cols will be pleased.
He’s looked good in every game except last. I was fighting off so much hate from Cavs fans on Twitter. SIIIIIGH
MDN drawing offensive foul on PG-13
Thought the ninja was about to get a mention when twitter was mentioned.
Sadly… not yet… but keep Tweeting it @ AC and Fred…
Good afternoon from Greece!
Why does Moz always tries to dunk one-handed?
He has missed many and ones because of it.
Good observation. He usually converts the 2 handers
Mozgov blows layup. Gets schooled by rookie. Drains 3 for revenge.
Moz-erati… Stretch Five in action!
Wow, great drive and dish from Delly.
After a great cross court find from the Ninja…
Think that was the play they used to run for Z!
I think you’re right… love it!
THE FLYING RUSSIAN for THREE!!!
Holy Mozilla!!!!!
Myles Turner is a good looking young player…
The Ninja is too fast for them!
You can tell Mozzy’s knee is still bugging him… allowing more penetration than usual
Wow, MDN is looking good.
LeBron reverting to his horrible fadeaway release on jumpers.
(Being in the UK it’s nice to join in with the live stream without having to be up in the middle of the night)
Nice D by Delly. Much better defensive shot clock awareness.
Omg. I think that was the old play they ran for Z.
Not gonna count!
No bucket on the tip in.
Monta always seems to get up for the Cavs… no matter what team he’s on…
He’s one of those guys you want to stifle from the get go. He reminds me of Scott Skiles when he was at Michigan St. (Yeah, I’m old)…when he’s feeling it, he just becomes unstoppable, and hits everything.
MUCH DANGER NINJA!!!
Dellylobba! Good stuff.
The flob to TT!
WOW! Loaded Wombat/Canadian Dynamite!!
K-Love looks blah. Been that way since the fourth game of the season.
Much Danger Ninja into the game… (still no acknowledgment on the nickname from AC and Fred…)
I tweeted at both. It’ll catch on.
LBJ backing down the mouse in the house…
Don’t love the Ellis/Jefferson matchup. Or Jefferson matched up on George… Or anyone, really
George will probably score 30 today no matter who they put on him. I’ll get stabby if they let Ellis go off, though.
Yeah… he’s looked really good…
Wow, what was that, Delly? Guess he thought he was throwing it to Sasquatch.
Great pick and roll with Love and TT!
Mo is ice cold.
Boy, George is looking good.
Luckily you put that comma in there…
Do you really want to hurt me??
Pacers should definitely use that in their promotional material.
Looks like Moz is getting a pushed a lot underneath. They got whistled for that one.
Mo just off on his threes today…
Given their energy and passing… seems like the Cavs should be up by more than three right now… Pacers still a tough defensive team…
Nice ball movement leading to Love 3.
Gotta box out on the FTs fellas… smh…
Bron is really struggling from the line…
It has been really ugly.
Where is everyone?
You are the last person alive on internet, EG :P
Ha! I just can’t shut up I guess…
Love how the Cavs are pushing the ball…
Cavs sharing the rock well to start…
Moz getting really good at taking contact and still getting the bucket… Great interior pass from KLove as well…
Would love to see KLove and Mo knocking down these open threes…
RJ for THREE! Great pass from LBJ!
Joey Crawford lead official today…
Bron looks super serious in the introductions…
Sounds like RJ will get the start over MDN… :(
Looks like Richard Jefferson will start at shooting guard.
Coded Elf Mr want called Cunningham by Much Danger Ninja.
Won’t……………….
Is Anal Valoy playing?
Actually… it’s Anal Volley… and yes, I believe he’s playing…
Now, that surprises me! I thought for sure JR would play.
Excellent idea, Evil!
I heard the Radio crew using the name “Mo Gotti” on Friday. Is that name from CtB? If not, does anyone know the background of it?
No, I’m pretty sure Mo started calling himself that. He’s a huge fan of The Godfather movies. That led to the PA announcers playing The Godfather theme whenever Mo hits a three…
I Tweeted this to Fred McLeod this morning (after Tweeting to AC on Friday night and again today)… Tweet at them with me to get them to say “Much Danger Ninja” on air!
Ha this makes my day. Anyone hear if Lebron is playing?
If McLeod and AC start using it . . . and refer to CtB . . . it could turn out that this site gets a zillion followers. Do you keep track of viewer counts?
I haven’t watched any GSW games this year. Out of curiosity I checked the numbers on their guys. Outside of Steph, they don’t seem to be that efficient or productive this year to a man. Can anyone verify if they are as dangerous as their record and Diff. seem to imply?
Its hard to determine right now. Steph has been playing like he’s on a court with middle schoolers. Plus defensively they have been really good as well. When Steph comes back to Earth we will get a better look. Personally, I think their bench got worse. Their guys are a year older and they lost David Lee. Remember, if they didn’t have Lee to insert to shake things up against us in the finals, that series might have swung our way.
They look highly dangerous to me. Better than last year, no way to say yet. Curry has been ridiculous.
