Live Thread: Cavs @ Hornets
2015-11-27Two days after a frustrating road loss to the Toronto Raptors that dropped their road record this season to 3-4, the Cleveland Cavaliers will look to get back to their winning ways tonight as they visit the Charlotte Hornets. Largely written off after they lost Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to injury, the Hornets are off to a surprising start at 9-6, and are currently the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Several players have been factors in the Hornets’ impressive start. Kemba Walker is currently averaging 18.2 points per game while shooting 46.5% from the floor and 38.3% from beyond the arc, both of which are well above his previous career marks. Nicolas Batum has bounced back from a poor 2014-15 season by averaging 16.9 points per game while shooting 42.7% from three. Marvin Williams has been terrific in averaging 10.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game while shooting 41.4% from three. The play of Jeremy Lamb has been the most pleasant surprise for the Hornets though. The former first-round pick has gone from being an end of the bench player to averaging 12.9 ppg. on a whopping 53.3% shooting. It’s unlikely that so many Hornets keep playing above their career averages, but it’s worked for them so far, and has earned Hornets coach Steve Clifford a multi-year contract extension.
The Cavaliers will need to step up their defensive effort to beat the Hornets and may be getting some players back tonight that could help them. Timofey Mozgov has been upgraded to questionable after missing the last week with a strained shoulder, and David Blatt has said that he is hopeful that Matthew Dellavedova will be able to play tonight after missing the Raptors game with a strained calf. Both players would be extremely helpful as Walker and Al Jefferson are good scorers as the point guard and center position, and would can be a handful for any team.
After a players-only meeting following the loss to the Raptors, it would be no surprise to see the Cavaliers come out strong against the Hornets tonight. The questions is whether they will be able to sustain that effort, particularly on the defensive side, for the full 48 minutes. If they do, then LeBron James and company have an excellent chance of improving to 12-4.
The local lawyer ads on League Pass broadcast are always interesting. “Maybe your dad croaked in one of these cars…”
Big shot by JR, thank you !!!!
JR hits a 3 and comes up with a steal on the other end.
RJ seems to miss a lot of 3s lately.
Is Love hurt? Or just a DNP-CD in the 4th?
Defensive lineup. This lineup will be finishing this game.
Another bogus call against the Cavs!
All this grumbling and they lead by 3???
This is before they actually start making shots
Fred: Put them in a Blender; Time Out!!
Cavs are not really imposing their will, they are just there, barely any ball movement, especially now in the 4th and the other Cavs are getting the ball with a few seconds on the shot clock, those wont be good looks.
Of course Lebron missed that.
I got this game on mute, cause the Cavs are not impressing me so far this season, especially on da road. Their defense and turnovers need to improve, I dont care if they are shorthanded
Coach Blatt can’t get his team motivated to play hard on the road. I hope this game doesn’t turn into another close loss at the end.
No player movement on offense…. It’s simply hard ro watch this team playing road games.
Cavs defense: Turkey hangover
We got cold JR tonight
I just need to stop watching until we are full strength cause this is driving me crazy.
No need for that Bron,
Short handed or not they can play better than this.
Exactly…… I agree
Mo is so unbelievably bad on defense…
Love/LBJ 15-27, 4-6 3pt, 7-7 FT, 23 RB, 5 AST., 41 PTS ……..Rest of the team, ehh.
Last game only down 2 at the end of the 3rd. Now down 4. They should be able to pull this one. Need to show everyone what they got.
Without Lebron in this quarter, it would have been way uglier. He has 10 points and assisted on 6 points, responsible for 16 of the Cavs 18 points in this quarter.
They fouled the crap out of CAvs. No calls
Coach Blatt can’t get his team motivated to play hard on the road. I hope this game doesn’t turn into another close loss at the end.
Mozzy is hard to watch in this quarter
Cavs playing like garbage!
What is up with passing the ball to Casper , The Ghost??
More turnovers..!!!!
Oh brother those stupid fouls
Finally, getting JR involved
Maybe we can foul more players shooting 3’s……. Doesn’t seem like 3 times is enough, we can foul more.
Every game it seems we have more turnovers than the other team. Shouldn’t happen on a championship caliber team.
Just looked it up. Last 12 games, opponents turned it over more than Cavs in just 2 games……. both times NY Knicks.
Cavs have to pick up their pace. Get the ball moving. 6 assists is not going to win games. Lebron, needs to defer PG duties to the point guards.
He’s gotten to the basket every time he’s had the ball out top. With no long jumpers either.
You have to get the rest of the team involved. JR only got 1 shot. That’s ridiculous. Lebron only has 1 assist. When has that ever happened? It’ll be a different half
KLove with a quiet 13/11 double double at the half.
Oh, Delly. Falls for the banana in the tailpipe just before the halftime buzzer.
Bad foul at the half. Would have liked to come out tougher in the first half
I hate that call where the defender jumps straight up and the offensive player leans into him. The league needs to look at changing that rule.
That time Delly jumped into him though. Walker after the fake jumped fairly straight up.
I don’t understand why the Cavs don’t post up Kevin Love more against Williams.
Too nice passes on those last possesion for scores, lets keep doing that
Unusual Jr has not scored
Nice feeds on back to back possessions from Delly to Love and JR to Moz for bunnies.
Cavs getting the whistles on the road. 13-4 foul advantage so far.
Once again the defensive effort is not were it should be IMO.
Not moving the ball. Cavs only have 4 assists. Hornets has 12.
Both teams starting to make shots…this is the type of game is like to see kevin love tally double digit assists from the high post
This is ugly to watch tonight
Its like a 90s game. I like it.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder….
RJ getting beat way to easy on the back cut…..
Lebron is handling the ball too much. Let Delly run the offense. Trust your team mates
Forgot to write it, but earlier AC said of Lin ‘with that haircut he can go any way he wants’. I think he was talking about going to his left, but……
Lebron has not taken a rest yet
Yea he took a couple minutes off already.
Yeah he did a bit at the end of the first
Must have been real quick when I grabbed some salsa for my chips!
I forgot about Spencer Hawes.
Well, 8-22 shooting, 0-3 from 3, only 1 assists, and still winning.
Only 1 assist after the first quarter. Not good. Though they are a very good defensive team.
Cavs look like they had their turkey dinner today and are still working off the tryptophan. But they’re up one after one.
Almost as if Delly is an important piece of our puzzle
Nice block and charge take by Delly!
And Delly ends the quarter by drawing a charge on Zeller.
Lin goes iso on Delly. Delly all over his shot.
Delly waiting for that move to make on Lin
JFJ with a rare drive airballs a short jumper.
Damn, Cavs need to pick up the pace.
Not very often that we’re behind in 3pt attempts 7-1
Srsly. Their effort on d has been superior so far.
Would like to see Lebron get that call but he needs to stop counting on getting fouled. Go up over everybody and dunk like timo does.
Wide open game so far. Cavs not ready to defend in transition/early offense.
Moz and Love with a few misses inside. Then Moz flushes off a nice entry pass from Mo.
Is it me, or is Moz the worst opening tipoff center in the league? So frustrating to see him loose the tip off EVERY time. At least he can hit a jumper though.
Moz hits an early baseline J.
Mozzy looking good so far
Pretty surprised that Moz is apparently playing tonight…
15 assists for delly, 45 points for love and 18 rebounds for TT
Dang!! I’ll take any one of those results!
not looking too good at the moment
Ditto Delly. He said the extra day helped his calf a lot, said he's good to go tonight— Jason Lloyd (@JasonLloydABJ) November 27, 2015
Good evening CtB! Your numbers for tonight:
CLE is a 4pt favorite over CLT, with an o/u @ 204. Smart money is on CLT and the o/u is virtually split dead even, 51/49.
Ill take CLE in a close one, 103-100 over CLT.
Recent betting trends point to CLE covering and the over. Unfortunately, today’s spread is eerily similar to CLE vs. TOR.
GO CAVS!
