This two word Tweet is about all you need to know concerning today’s matinee game for the Cavaliers. After all, it’s about the only thing that could break through the clutter, given the circumstances… An afternoon game… on a Sunday… in December… against the worst team in the league (1-26)… directly opposite a Browns game… that features Johnny Football taking on the Seahawks… during the last week of the Christmas shopping rush… on the weekend that Star Wars comes out and does more business than any other movie in history. Yep, that’s a lot of possible distractions to pull focus from arguably the most important thing to happen to the Cavs this year (other than winning a championship). Still, there is reason to get pumped up about it… just listen to the man himself…
“I’m pretty F’ing excited,” Irving said Saturday. “There were a few things I had to clear, but there was no rush on it. … I’ve been ready to play, but biomechanically we just wanted to make sure everything was good so I wouldn’t put myself at risk.”
According to reports, David Blatt says the team will monitor Kyrie’s minutes, but that he is expected to start against Philadelphia. The Cavs could certainly use another healthy body in the back court as Mo Williams is still out with a sprained wrist, and Iman Shumpert is questionable with a groin strain. Although, given how the wine & gold handled the Oklahoma City Thunder with a limited guard rotation, the lowly Sixers shouldn’t present to difficult a challenge, and Kyrie’s presence should be protection against this contest being a trap game. As a result, Cavs should wrap this up in time to allow LeBron and the starters to catch either the end of the Browns game… or an early evening showing of The Force Awakens. Prediction: Cavs 110-85.
I love Mo. One of my favorite players to watch in the NBA, he really is. But I find myself wondering if it’s too crowded on the bench with him as a reserve as well. Delly is such a dream come true back up point guard, and such a great contrast to Kyrie. It feels like it would be difficult for Mo’s role to be more than an injury insurance.
It really is crazy to consider the transformation of Delly. Last year if Delly had 10 pts at half it would be a huge deal. This year I didn’t even hesitate when I saw he was our second leading scorer.
Kyrie has looked gimpy. Can’t imagine he’s really ready to face Golden State.
2nd quarter, 34 points CAVS, 13 76ers, lets continue to dominate
It really looks like Lebron is having fun out there
That skip pass skipped off the defender right to Delly for a trey.
Lebron aint joking with that strong dunk. Lebron impacting this game in so many ways
Sweet pass for a Delly trey!
Delly with the deep knee bend triple!
I’m not sure Moz should keep trying to hit threes…
Okafor hates losing. Hates it. You can see it on his face. Those are the kinds of guys I want on my team.
He could definitely be ROY…
Gonna be tough to beat the zinger just because of NY market.
Yeah, but he’s hit the rookie wall already…
That seemed like a good clean challenge by Moz…
LBJ seems determined to force the refs to call fouls on his drives…
How can there be a foul on the jump ball?
Delly keeps Grant earthbound. Wombat is a strong creature.
WOW, Great tie up by Delly
Sweet No Look Alley Oop From JR To James. He’s look good so far, I love this team
LeBron has gotten so good with his left.
DESTRUCTION…
Tristan should’ve posterized Canaan.
feel so good, feels like March of last season, feels like the season has finally begun. Feels like all that was before this was the preseason, a long weird preseason.
Cavs have outscored the Sixers 20-8 so far this quarter…
Delly! Launches a brick that scored!
Delly trey with a roll! Cavs by 8.
Rubber rim Delly Trey!!
LBJ is so dominant in the paint when he chooses to play there…
Good to see one fall for Delly…
Too much going on: Giants have scored 28 straight points to tie the undefeated Panthers. Carolina with the ball now and time to drive for a FG attempt.
And Newton takes them about 50 yards for a wining FG on the final play. Now back to the Cavs…
That sounds like it was an insane fourth quarter!
Sigh… you guys are all making me miss Cols right about now with all the negativity… ;)
JUST JOINING IN ( CHRISTMAS PARTY / BROWNS ) —SURE IT IS ON EVERYONE’S MIND —COMING OFF A BIG WIN — SHORTHANDED / 2 DAYS REST / THE RETURN OF KY / AND PLAYING WHOM ?—AND WE SRTUGGLE TO PUT THEM AWAY EARLY —-I KNOW I AM COMPLAINING BUT C’MON
First Kyrie points… on a platter from LBJ…
Return of the layup king.
AV playing some inspired D right now…
JR with the nifty And one…
Third foul on KLove… suspect… Probably won’t see him until second half now…
So basically the Cavs are the only team that can’t beat the Sixers by double digits…….can someone stop the Sixers layup drill.
Cavs are so bad when Lebron is on the bench…
Lot of different rotations today though with Kyrie and Shump back…
Cavs are so bad when Lebron is on the bench this season.
Disagree…
Not a great game so far for Delly…
4 turnovers already…
Just reading this now. Glad I could chuckle
Couple of ugly three point attempts for each team…
Shump’s shot is off…
Great D hustle…
LBJ hit the brakes and they flew right by…
Cavs are going to run out of bikes for people to ride.
K-Love playing like crap
Um… he’s already taken a charge and played some good D… only bad part are the turnovers…
Delly guarding Noel on the perimeter
KLove… takin the charge!
Great defense leads to run out by LBJ…
Cavs sloppy with the passes early… imagine that will get cleaned up…
Flyin’ Russian… running the floor!
The big man goes deep! Moz with the TD.
Love passing into Moz almost always works…
Good pressure by JR to thwart the fast break. Props to refs for not blowing the whistle on him just because.
Cavs need to start talking about how solid JR has become on defense, as an indirect way of changing refs’ mindset on him.
JR not giving up on the play pays off…
Bad sequence by Klove there. All good, you can tell they’re trying to find their rhythm together.
I’m okay if he’s trying for the TD pass though…
Quick shift for Kyrie. Delly in after 4 minutes.
Awesome spin move by KLove…
First assist to Moz…
Kyrie is back!!!!!!!!!!
Big cheer for Kyrie bringing the ball up the first time…
Kyrie just brought the ball up!
Kyyyyyyriiiieeeee Iiiiiiiiirrrrrrvvviiiiiiinnnnggggg!
I feel like Kyrie will either be devastating today in limited minutes. So happy he’s back.
Shump makes life easier for Kyrie the way Moz makes life easier for K love. Really need both guys playing well for Cavs to hit their ceiling.
Now AC saying he’s out there…
The “Very Mozzy Christmas” segment on the FSO pre-game is amazing… I would go to that supermarket just for that…
Conflicting reports on whether Shump will play…
Kyrie’s return will up the energy to avoid the trap game. Kyrie and Curry have so many parallels. Returning from early career injury struggles with be just another one.
Can’t wait for everyone to remember how good the Cavs can be with him in the fold.
“Biomechanically” – Was he also sent back in time to save the city of Cleveland?
For all the reasons you listed for this game not being terribly exciting…I think it’s a huge trap game. The sixers are long, hungry, and seem to play better against the Cavs than they do against other teams. I hope I’m wrong, but I can see this one being a frustrating game. Cavs must pounce early.
They’re not hungry anymore. The last game against the knicks they looked like they gave up on the season. Hinkie forgot that his assets are human beings. he is ruining talented players by teaching them winning doesn’t matter.
They just hired Dantoni as an assistant which likely will bring temporary or even permanent new energy to the team. I don’t think we’ll lose but if we let them hang around too long it will be annoying to have to play Lebron a lot of minutes
Can’t wait to just see Kyrie out there on the floor, will definitely put a smile on my face
