Live Thread: Pelicans @ Cavs
2016-02-06Last October, tonight’s game could have been anticipated as a potential passing of the torch affair between the king of his generation, to the heir to the throne. Today, it appears to be anything but. The Cavs honeyLUEn appears to be on the rocks after a half-hearted win over the Pacers, followed by a pair of defeats at the hands of the Hornets and Celtics, both of whom, field vastly inferior and cheaper rosters, than the Cavs tax books boast.
The Pelicans seemed primed to ascend to the next level this season, but they’ve got their own brand of troubles, as their roster construction and coaching choice in Alvin Gentry have failed to accent the fortune they lucked into in hitting the Anthony Davis lottery. Their situation sounds like a tune we heard played on a saxophone years ago outside of The Q.
The Cavs could be without Matthew Dellavedova for a third straight game due to tightness in his hamstring, and hopefully the bench sob can muster something without him. I’m not panicking on the season being lost at all, but every day that passes we get closer to June. Hopefully the team can avoid the third quarter funk that has poisoned the past week. Let’s dish.
And now we wait for the other shoe to drop in the third quarter… /s
Will we see another step back three from LBJ to end the half?
That was unfortunate…
If I were an offensive assistant coach, my strategy would be to have JR Smith shoot a three every single possession.
JR WAS ASKED WHAT POSITION HE WOULD PLAY IF HE PLAYED FOOTBALL WITHOUT HESITATION ” FREE SAFETY I LIKE TO HIT PEOPLE ” —GOT TO LOVE HIS HONESTY / TOUGHNES
this made me laugh.
Oh hell yeah! It’s an intense position and put in the speed. Adrenalin pumping
Shooters roll for Kyrie. A big first half for him.
The iron is kind for Cavs tonight…
This line-up we seen in the playoffs. Pretty damn good
I’m writing in JR Smith on my primary ballot.
YEAH DON’T SPRINT BACK AFTER YOU GOT SRTIPPED / JUST STAND THERE AND COMPLAIN / ” ALL IN OR ALL OUT “
How many seconds was that for JR????? Amazing
Back to back threes from Ky and JR!
Moz scuffling a bit but maintaining the effort.
Now THAT was a cut I haven’t seen before. Or, at least, rarely.
Good hustle by Moz…

LoL Mosgov was like stalking the ref following him with the ball over his head.
Moz after that call: Here, Mr. Referee, eat this basketball.
Better description than mine. It was funny
Glad that bounced in for Moz…
Well… that one was not so good…
Nothing but net!
Good point… LOL
In 8th grade, I blocked a shot off the backboard for the first time. I pinned it to the board after my guy drove past me. It looked just like it did in the pros, I was so excited! My coach pulled me. I asked him, “What’s wrong? Wasn’t that a great block?!” He responded by telling me it was a great block, but he was pissed I let my guy go around me in the first place. This exact situation happens to Cavs way too much.
Block is pretty good at 8th grade
I think you’re missing the point of the story haha. But ya, 6’0″ tall as an 8th grader. I got a lot that year, exciting stuff.
No I get the point. I’m focused on the rarity. I seen a lot of 8th grade games (which can be torture) and I can’t recall seeing too many blocks. So it would be impressive to see. Cool
Kyrie without Lebron is good Kyrie basketball
Man… the Pelicans have no conscience shooting the ball…
LOL I think that’s a good thing.
Kyrie feeling the three tonight!
Some productive minutes for Mo that time…
You see how Kyrie had a mismatch against Anderson and then Mosgov quickly went to help and then the block
TIMO! Great double and block!
Love the pace here
Love that Godfather theme…
Now if Kyrie was on the floor, Mozzy would have dove for that ball rolling away. LoL
That was a nice find by Mo for Moz…
Tristan is doing great against Davis
TT Tigger mode engaged…
Thompson is bouncy. Trouncy would be good too. Not so sure about flouncy.
No Lebron or Kyrie in there. Hope they can hold on
Super heat check lineup!
More exceptional than the dunk, LeBron actually managed a 2-for-1 opportunity properly at the end of that quarter.
True. He used to be so much better at the end of periods. Now, not so much.
I know, right!!! I was amazed.
Can we please have more quarters like this and better?
Can we please play the Pelicans every night?
LOL Fine with me as long as we get a W
I had assumed AV was kind of done with all his repeated injuries, but I may have been wrong. I hope so.
RIGHT DOWN EUCLID!!
Four Pelicans wanting no part of that!
Sounds like the beginning of a joke: “Four pelicans sitting on Euclid”
Not sure what the punch line would be.
He lulled everybody into expecting the step-back off-balance three by pounding the ball at half-court with 10 seconds left.
Man… I missed Andy…
He gets a lot of bloody noses. He wore that plug all game in Laker game.
That last JR Swish…
JR might be one of my favorite players on the Cavs.
He probably has been the most consistent Cav…..and Delly too.
I like to see Delly wear some of Jr’s clothes. He seriously needs an upgrade.
Delly looks like he wants to be ready just in case a little bit of Outback materializes in Northeast Ohio.
Oh yeah that dude has swag.
Who would’ve thought that when the going got tough JR Smith would be the one that carried the team
AC with the understatement of the season so far: “You can see LeBron a little bit concerned with the accuracy of his jumper.”
Woe Tristan owning the boards
TT going dynamite right now!
I’m not sure about all of this running the offense through Andy, but this is a team to try that out on.
Better than any one-on-five option, for sure.
Yeah, it’s good that they’re trying it out, and if it doesn’t work they’ll probably be able to win anyway.
Alonzo Geeeeeeee Forgot about him
JR Deep Swish! Three 3’s in the first 8 minutes.
Just tuned in… good to see AV in there…
If Kyrie gets his shot back, it’s probably not enough to beat the Warriors in itself, but we won’t have anymore games like last night’s.
Yes it is a sight for sore eyes for sure. Kyrie 3
Irving playing hide-and-seek behind AV hits a 3.
There we go a nice floater from Andy
JR playing with a vengance
Yeah, good to see him with no lingering effects from last night.
JR Swish! Degree of difficulty 6.2.
Kyrie, the Layup King, misses a transition layup. But JR recoups with a 3.
You notice under Lue that we win the tip-off now. Thought it was a little interesting
LeBron passed up his first open 3 opportunity. A small positive.
All 3’s must go through the Pipe 1st
An excellent rule!
They should play more MDN tonight.
Oh you’re right I hope they do
Everyone remember how much Anderson LOVES to torch the Cavs?? Let’s hope AV gets a LOT of run on him
Sounds like Timo is starting in place of Love. So TT and Timo together. Wonder if AV will get some run?
I’d expect so…. also, maybe the defense can get on track with that lineup.
Lue going back the Finals line-up. Wise
Cavs pull out a tight one, Kyrie and Lebron combine for 60 and Kyrie erupts out of his funk from three. 101-97 Cavs, and the team locks it up from the free throw line to the tune of a super 70+ percent lol
Warriors host OKC tonight. I’ve got Dion going for 40 in a win.
That would be pretty cool!!!
Thanks for reminding me to dvr that….I’ll be working. I look for Westbrook to score 50, and most likely devour two Warrior starters on the court.
Can’t wait to see that game. Go get ’em Russell!!
DELLY / LOVE OUT —-CAVS IN BIG TIME “3RD QTR ” FUNK WITH NO DEFENSIVE CONCEPT —–A.D GOES OFF FOR 35 ( OR MORE ) PELICANS CONTINUE THE ” TY DEMISE “—PELCS 110-107 —-SORRY GUYS !!—-HAVE THE FEELING IT IS GOING TO GET WORSE BEFORE IT GETS BETTER —HOPE I AM TOTALLY WRONG !!!—GO CAVS !!
No Love, No Delly, No win. I expect nothing to have changed and we drop 3 straight…
Yeah, it’d be a miracle to win this one without those two. Maybe JFJ will have an MVP night…
Good evening CtB! Here are your numbers for this evening:
CLE is a 10 point favorite over NOP with an o/u @ 206.5. NOP is a solid smart money bet, and the UNDER is the slightest of smart money bets.
I’ll take CLE over NOP 102-94. The numbers are suggesting a game controlled by CLE’s defense and pace with NOP putting up a good effort that will inevitably fall short.
Numbers for your consideration:
NOP is a top 10 offense, while also being one of the worst defenses in the league.
CLE is a top 5 offense, while also being a top 10 defense although throughout much of the season CLE had been a top 5 defense.
