Live Thread: Cavs @ Clippers
2016-03-13[Editor’s Note: Nate Smith here. I’m pleased to announce that today we are LIVE with the CtB website re-design. It’s been years coming, but we hope it adds to your enjoyment of the site. Included in the re-design is a new comment system that LIVE UPDATES your comment feed every 20 seconds. Your new comments will appear at the top, and other user’s comments appear at the bottom. We’re considering this site/comment system rollout an “open beta.” We request your comments on look/feel/usability in today’s live thread and beyond. None of this is set in stone, and we want the site to be the best it can be for the community. Also, feel free to email us. Remember, we don’t make a dime off this site, and we do it as a labor of love. As such, we might be a little rough around the edges with this rollout, but we really want to hear what you think.
Also premiering today: @CavsTheTweets, our new site twitter handle. Upcoming features will include live courtside tweeting, bonus content, and insight you won’t find anywhere else. Be sure to follow us, and let us know what works and doesn’t there, too. Also, check out our recently launched Facebook page. Thank you all so much for your readership and support and for helping us usher CtB into the 2010’s. Now on to Mike’s Live Thread!]
After two days off to enjoy—but hopefully not too much—Los Angeles, the Cleveland Cavaliers are back in action this afternoon against the Los Angeles Clippers. Both of these teams fancy themselves title contenders, and a win for either would provide a nice confidence boost going forward.
Today’s game could have serious implications in terms of the conference standings as well. The Cavs are just two games ahead of the Toronto Raptors for the top seed in the Eastern Conference, and have several back-to-backs left. Meanwhile the Raptors have a fairly easy schedule the rest of the way, and are playing with terrific focus and confidence. Considering Toronto also holds the tie-breaker, the Cavaliers can’t take any game for granted, and the assumption that even if they lose today they’ll win tomorrow against the Utah Jazz could prove to be a huge mistake.
Meanwhile, the Clippers sit just a game behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the third seed in the Western Conference, and are actually tied with them in the loss column. Whichever team is able to secure the third seed wouldn’t have to face the Golden State Warriors until the Conference Finals, and considering the Clippers’ prior success against the San Antonio Spurs, this has to be a top priority for them.
Vegas currently favors the Cavaliers by about two points in today’s matchup, while BPI gives the Clippers a 54% chance of coming out on top. Whatever the result, expect a great game between these two teams led by close friends LeBron James and Chris Paul. Be sure to tune into ABC at 3:30 and share your thoughts here at Cavs: The Blog!
It seems like Shump hasn’t been able to stay in front of players as easily this season…
Cavs ahead after this garbage? I’ll take it!
For real…Feels like we’re down 20…
Exactly! LOL… it was the backups making up ground
Everyone is Terrified of Jordan. Great trash pickup by TT.
TT active on the boards early!!! He’s not as hungover as the rest of the guys!
TT! beasting on his B DAY
Delly wide open on the inbounds… passer doesn’t see him
Delly directing traffic. Delly drive. Delly fadeaway. SOMEONE MOVE
Delly, no dice on the fadeaway
Shumpert no hesitation, unfortunately bricked
James getting a lot of free throws but missing a lot too.
LBJ with the walk-up 3! Delly with the nice screen!
Left Wing… His sweet spot.
One thing I don’t like about the new format is the area to comment in is at the top of the page instead of at the bottom where you can see the most recent comments…Is there a way to reorder the comments so the newest ones show at the top?
for some reason it just switched automatically after i wrote that comment…weird…
Crawford making garbage…. LBJ misses another layup
Why don’t the Cavs ever move off the ball
it’s been the most difficult part of being a fan (for me)
I think it’s because a lot of their sets are just to wait at the three point line while one guy drives to score or kick…It gets them kind of stuck and not moving though…
Hubie Brown: “Why arel the Cavs taking so many threes?” Uh, because Jordan was blocking almost everything, and the Cavs can’t get a call?
LBJ fouled… but no call… gets his own putback, make up call!!!
Dude uh, that TT blocked was nuts!
I’ll have a side of Fryes with that 3…
was pure
Stupid pass by CP3… thanks CP3
One thing about the layout that is a little… I don’t know the word. But new comments are at the bottom of the screen and our comment box is at the top. So we have to scroll down to see the last thing said then back up to make our comment. Or am I missing something?
No, I don’t love that aspect either. Hope to get it fixed.
I suppose they are at the top for a predetermined amount of time before going to the bottom?
that’s how it is for me right now
Would it be difficult to allow us to make it so we can reorder comments? Newest ALWAYS at the top?
That’s the hope! Working on it.
Irving stuffed like a holiday turkey
Cavs hung over so far…. they’ll probably perk up after halftime.
Anyone using site from phone and want to comment on usability?
Unfortunately there seems to be too much lost space between the end of a comment and the “reply share”. Just dead space that means more scrolling. My tablet is very similar, lots of dead space.
These are meant as constructive comments.
JJ REDICK WITH ANOTHER OPEN JUMPER…. WTH
Woah, love the new digs.
Love this new layout,
Really wish they had read the scouting report on Redick
LeBron throws the best alley-oops. his teammates…not always…
You see Jordan just clothesline JR on the screen there? Cavs aren’t gonna get a lot of calls today.
Nice read by LBJ …. TT draws the foul… TT should’ve caught that
NICE DRIVE KLOVE!!! with the floater!
Mozgov giveth, and Mozgov taketh away.
Mozzys hands are stonier than usual today…
ANOTHER WIDE OPEN JUMPER FOR REDICK…. SMH
Nice work by LBJ… draws the foul, was probably fouled 2 or 3 times on that drive
Put me in the group that think the Cavs might get waxed here. Wasn’t that impressed with marginal victories over weak teams the last couple contests.
Clippers jump on a lot of teams. Their bench is their achilles
Irving with lazy defense on that PnR… lucky that CP3 misses the easy jumper
I’ll be honest – didn’t think that Mozgov possession was going to end that well!
NICE THROW DOWN BIG MAN
Mozzy! Nice.
Mozerati owns Jordan in the post!!!
Poor defense on JJ Redick so far
Cripes. Obvious walk by Chris Paul there.
you mean Jeff Green? Or was there a travel before the pass too?
Thought there was a travel before the pass, too.
Total travel by Green. Even Clios fans thought so…
Cavs look like this is the first time they’ve played with each other.
LBJ fouled on the way to the hoop… no call… then misses the lay-up.
Nice pass by JR, Irving misses the jumper
Hmmm, Hopefully live update works.
it’s working for me
It was disabled for guests. But I think I fixed that.
THE PRINCE. Keep shooting
Mozerati misses the easy jump hook… nice pass by Irving
Thank god the Clippers have Jeff Green.
KLOVE with another open jumper and misses… at least he didn’t hesitate
Testing, testing….. Everything is awesome? :)
Cavs now 0-3 on 3s.
LBJ with a great pass to KLOVE, KLOVE misses the easy jumper
Not a fan of the J.R. smith 3s here. They’re not coming off anything
Irving using the KLOVE screen well and nice flip pass to KLOVE in the paint!
DeAndre klling them early.
Jordan with some garbage that goes in
Nice little pass by Mozerati to KLOVE!
Ugly airball by Kyrie
Missed Moz on the pin down screen… he was wide open.
Well at least 1 clipper out today….

And Jae Crowder has high ankle sprain and will miss next couple weeks….
So yeah, a big reason for the new layout is that we wanted to be able to feature more than one article at a time. We felt like when we had multiple posts in the same day, the older one was getting short shrift. Also we wanted to improve the comment section and allow for more twitter integration. Also, we wanted a better mobile experience. Like we said, nothing is set in stone.
At the game so won’t be on thread as much… National Anthem!
Enjoy the game EG!
I love that your handle still reads Tom’s Test From Phone…
Feels like a Clippers win, but maybe I’m just assuming the worst.
Ok new site – interesting
Ok after 2 comments it’s taking away the captcha
I think its making me do it every time from my phone
I started on my phone, but rather than log in and everything, just switched to laptop which I use 98% of the time anyways. No Captia needed on the laptop though.
Site looks nice, but don’t know how necessary it was or if it is improved from my POV really. I think adding a forum, or even the ability to post pics or youtube clips in posts and replies would be an actual improvement, but at least y’all didn’t screw it up like espn.com and especially si.com did with their recent revamps.
Do you have to Captia every time?
this commenting plugin is called wpdiscuz and it’s …alright. If enough people like it we’ll pay the money to enable media embedding.
Don’t know if I ha e to Captia or not.
Looks like no, at least on phone, but can’t edit a comment without a login.
Yea, if it’s a money problem, then it makes sense not to add.
And yea, so far I have to refresh also, nothing is coming automatically.
And my comment above might come across as criticism, but I didn’t mean it to be. I just think that actual content is why I visit sites, not the packaging, and CtB still has the same content (which is a good thing), but wrapped in a shiny package. Si.com had the same content, but totally f’d up their site to where I don’t even visit there anymore, so just like actual cosmetic surgery on people, sometimes you can actually do damage with gratuitous facelifts.
it should be working such that replies in line will appear automatically. New posts are currently being placed at the top. And after some time they get sorted back in with oldest on top.
Good afternoon CtB! Here are your numbers for today:
CLE is a 2 point favorite over LAC with an o/u @ 208. Smart money bets are on LAC and the UNDER.
I’ll take CLE over LAC 104-103. Vegas numbers are suggesting either a 1 point victory for CLE or an outright win for LAC. If you like to put money on CLE, Vegas is telling you to stay away from this game.
This new format is a shock to the system LOL! But thanks for all the hard work CtB!
Anyone having trouble commenting?
I don’t know. Are you?
No but we are admins. Don’t know how hard/easy this is for “guests”
Looks good to me!
OK. Hopefully today’s Live Thread isn’t too disappointing. No pics and EG is at the game
Can you see this one?
yeah. Needed to refresh though
New look great game, fired up!
Something looks…different.
