Live Thread: Cavs @ Pistons (Game 3)
2016-04-22The Cavs head to the Palace to take on Detroit for game three of the first round. With two wins, they’re are in position to finish off the Pistons, at least mentally. Detroit will come out fighting for their life and looking to get their home court crowd fired up.
Stan Van Gundy took a verbal swing at Tyron Lue after game two when asked about Lue’s decision to put LeBron back in the game to start the second quarter.
“That’s really smart coaching. It is. That’s really smart coaching, to put LeBron on the floor.
“I give him a lot of credit for that ‘adjustment,’ if that’s what you want to call it.” [Joe Vardon, Cleveland.com]
Stan Van was making fun of the question with his answer.
LeBron James also felt the elbows were flying a little too freely in game two. And, Stanley Johnson even talked a little smack.
“He hit two 3’s, which is not, like, his norm. He hit a tough-ass turnaround on me, and he played really physical. I battled physical. He didn’t get any paint touches. He made a bunch of tough shots. So he’s going to have to go 40 minutes and make those same tough shots every game for them to do what they did tonight.”
“I’m definitely in his head, that’s for sure,” Johnson said after a 107-90, Game 2 loss to the Cavs. “That’s for sure.” [ESPN]
Johnson’s smack talk wasn’t even warranted though. The King was 6-6 when Johnson covered him on Wednesday. It was actually so unwarranted that Stan Van talked to him about poking the bear. Verbally, these two teams are going for the kill.
Both teams have had hot shooting games from beyond the arc so far in this series. Detroit was 15-29 in game one, and the Cavs tied a playoff record making 20 3-pointers in game two. The Cavs have made 32 total deep balls, which is the most so far in the playoffs. As they look for win number three, I hope they can remain calm and fight anything Detroit throws their way without getting into trouble. The Pistons could play dirty tonight, fearing their playoff time is over if they don’t win. If that happens, the Cavs need to handle that game plan with dignity. Any decisions they make carry over into round two.
The Cavs should figure it out tonight. In game one, they slowed Andre Drummond. In game two, they slowed the three-ball down. In Game three, Cleveland should find a balance between protecting the paint and the 3-line. Cavs 112- Detroit 96.

Tired of these second tier teams taking cheap shots at the Cavs
How was that NOT a backcourt violation?
The refs’ homerism with these non-calls is getting ridiculous…
And then a BS foul.
Shumpert’s turn in gm 3
LeBron needs to make better decisions…
Wow, Drummond swung at Lebron
Drummond on LBJ in space is not a good plan for SVG…
Refs gonna call these elbows sometime?
https://vine.co/v/iUW5X0AuUDX
Gotta be a flagrant-one when the league reviews it.
Jesus Christ. No wonder why he stopped going to the rack. They’re gonna knock his damn block off.
Got to be a flagrant 1.
Wow that is crazy. Nice catch EG.
KLove has done great getting to the line this series. Only Cav so far to have free throws tonight.
Physical first quarter and the refs let em play…now they’re calling touch fouls? That would drive me nuts if I were playing
LeBron has been cracked on the top of the head and taken a hard elbow in the neck. Total result: one common foul.
Yeah that’s completely ridiculous
SHUMP AGAIN!

The ball movement to the Delly trey…
https://vine.co/v/iUWiMjAdYTX
Delly is a passing cheat code.
Shump got some JR mojo going on ;)
after two horrible 2 pointer jumpshots, Shump with two big 3.. im shocked
I love this line up
Nice travel Stanley…
BALL MOVEMENT! DELLY TREY!
Sucks that I feel a LOT more confident with Delly on the floor instead of Ky :(
Shump with the redemption steal and three ball!
Shumpman, Shumpman, Shumpman!
https://vine.co/v/iUWe2p923w2
Shump earns a 3 with a steal.
There you go Shump lol
Steve Blake bail out is not a good last option…
Lue bringing in Lebron right away w Delly and resting love and Kyrie at once. Those are smart decisions
Agree. Will result in 5 point lead in the next six minutes.
Time to unleash the Wombat!

Not a great start for LBJ, but Cavs still only down 3 on the road…
First time I’ve heard Mark Jackson actively against the Cavs this year. Is he concerned Lue has earned the job?!
He might be doing the Herbstreit thing
Not a lot of bench minutes so far… also allowing Pistons to shoot 58%… otherwise, not a bad quarter…
I like the lineups by Lue thus far. Keeping Love and Irving to close the quarter strong and bring Delly with Lebron to wreac havoc in the second.
Would like to see Frye in there with them too.
Actually that makes sense. I was asking about Delly but with a rested Lebron to start the 2nd quarter, it will be a nice shot of adrenaline.
Seems like we are playing at a slower tempo than the last game. Hopefully they pick up the intensity in the second half.
Shump shouldn’t be allowed to dribble more than twice.
He is the swaggy p OF ball handling (as opposed to having swaggy’s handles)
Put a period after dribble and cut the last three words.
Could have used some Delly but the Cavs have the game under control…
SMHumbert.

Great pass from KI. He has been exceptional tonight so far.
Where is Delly?
More odd Lue rotations…
Love with a serious turnaround as shot clock expires.
KLOVE! Strong move to beat the clock!

That was a flagrant if I’ve ever seen one.

This will be the toughest game of the series
JR making them pay!
TT and J.R. playing their roles perfectly with a tip in o-board and three pointer, respectively.
JR SWISH!!
https://vine.co/v/iUWb7X5I5eD
TT making a good impact on the boards right now…
LBJ too many outside shots. to the rack.
And Kyrie too much dribbling.
Olynyk out again because of his shoulder. Karma.
Can’t believe there were no calls on that sequence…
Wow how is that not a cheap shot?
Looked like a flagrant foul on Morris…
Can’t give them life to start the game. Going to be a tough game tonight I fear.
Way too much penetration being allowed…
That’s what she said
Lue with the Defensive rage timeout.
the Mike Brown special
It was one of his few good qualities.
Kyrie feeling it!
https://vine.co/v/iUWmt0lz9PU
Marcus Morris has really blossomed this year. Complete opposite of his brother.
Like KLove’s aggressiveness so far…
He called “bank”
https://vine.co/v/iUWZJHJDq0F
This would be one weekend to be a Cleveland fan in Detroit… two Cavs games and three Tribe games…
And you don’t even have to pay for hotel. Just take residence in an abandoned three bedroom house for a couple of days.
Generic observation I believe is true: 3pt shooting tends to be worse on the road because of the unfamiliar feel of the court in the first half. By second half, you’re used to it and the shots fall.
Sweet move by Uncle Drew…
KLove turnaround in the post!
https://vine.co/v/iUW70wdbmg0
Both teams cold from outside at the moment…
Why do Cavs always force bounce passes to Thompson? He can’t do much with that even if he does catch it. If it’s not a lob or he’s not rolling to the hoop, don’t try to get him points
Delly doesn’t…
https://twitter.com/NBA/status/723650740099538944
LBJ with a big time slam!
There’s a lot of smoke in this building… about right for Detroit…
I wonder if there’s a drinking game surrounding how many times they say “Deeeeeeetrooooooit basketbaaaaaaal!” during a game…
Good news… more Stanley Johnson… /s

OUCH that sounds painful.
The effect of being dunked by Lebron..
Kyrie will be so valuable on the road. That’s what makes him an all star. He performs on the road. He goes for at least 30 tonight.
