Breaking News: Goodbye Wombat?
2016-07-01Matthew Dellavedova and the Milwaukee Bucks reached an agreement today on a four-year, $39 million deal, according to NBA league sources. Once the Bucks submit the signed offer sheet, the Cavs officially have three days to match the deal or let Delly go. While there’s still the possibility, initial reports have indicated that it is unlikely Cleveland matches.
Or you can take LBJ’s Tweet as a signal that the Wombat will soon be running with the Bucks…
Congrats to my brother! @matthewdelly on his deal! Good luck in Milwaukee! Very deserving to you and your family. 1
— LeBron James (@KingJames) July 1, 2016
If this is actually the case, though a happy day for Delly and his family, it is a sad day for those in the Cavalier fanbase who genuinely loved and appreciated everything this scrappy Aussie guard did for this team and this franchise. He will certainly be missed.
Good luck Delly!
Trainwreck was good I thought.
Horrible movie IMO
For the record. This is the team Nate is scared of. Hahahahahahahaha
PG – Elfrid Payton
SG – Fournier
SF – Gordon
PF – Ibaka
C- Vucevic
God, you’re a misquoting dillweed. I’m impressed with the improvements they’ve made. Ibaka can be an all-star in the East. I think an Ibaka/Biyambo front line could be super difficult to score on. The team needs a closer who can get his own shot, and hey’ll be formidable and play tough.
That team can’t score 60 points.
So what, if they hold you to 59?
LOL. Dude that team is straight garbage.
I thought that was a bad trade for Orlando but I’m probably a bit too high on Oladipo.
Rare “bad trade for both teams” move.
Unless Durant joins Boston, Cavs still have an easy road.
True. But I’m still not worried about Durant with Boston, because Durant with Westbrook is much better.
Agreed.
Warriors expected to match unless they land Durant…
https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/749390641621135360
I’m impressed with Orlando, and when they Move Vucevik for another piece (They might have enough parts to pry bledsoe out of Phoenix), they could be really tough.
Hahahahaha. Even if they make playoffs Cavs will sweep.
LeBron is funny in Trainsreck
Cols, c’mon, man! LeBron is AWESOME in Trainwreck!
But that movie blows!!!

Yep. Yet they will still suck.
Free agency is KRAZY.
Celtics still
Suck.
I’m much less worried about Durant joining the Celtics vs the Warriors. If he joins any team other than the Warriors, Spurs,
Clippers or OKC, I think he will be playing with lesser top level talent. Of course that excludes the Cavs because duh!!!!
Wow… Horford to the Celtics…
Horfords Tweet: Celtic Pride!!!!!! ??????????????????
After Woj tweeted just a bit ago that he was going to sign with the Hawks, this is disgusting. Not so much because of Horford, but this also gives them at least some small chance at Durant. Boston sports and Boston fans are revolting…ten times worse than NY fans, easily…
Still not worried about Boston with Durant and Horford.
Not so much worried, just tired of Boston always getting what they want. Hope Durant tells them to F off.
Hmmm.. He tweeted 18 leaf clovers.. Celts have 17 titles right. He sure he’ll get #18 there?? Interesting..
But nah.. Al Horford hasn’t won a single playoff game against us.. Even with KD we will still own them hahahhajahajahahahaha
Don’t understand why Durant would leave Westbrook for Al Horford????
Lot of thinking that Durant has a much easier road in the East, but I’m not sure that’s true. That Celtics squad would be pretty solid, but a mismash of parts, IMO. They still have to figure out that point guard mess. They’re all guards and bigs, no wings.
Player comparison wise LeBron is 1,
Durant is 2, Kyrie/Love is 3/4 then it’s debatable.
I’m still buying the Delly 1’s!
Does anyone think Shump might get moved? He had a pretty disappointing year. I know he would be hard to move because of it, but his contract isn’t bad.
Probably not. He’s had his poor moments, but is the only young wing defender with length to have played any meaningful minutes.
How do you replace that role? Teams don’t normally swap players who fill the same niche without one team offering sweetener (picks, prospects, etc). If the Cavs want to upgrade on Shump, they have next to no assets to throw in.
Yeah you’re probably right. I’m taking my Delly leaving anger out on Shump. I really hope Shump improves and stays healthy.
Maybe, but of the two, Delly is vastly more important.
No doubt Nate!!!!
True, but Shump is the better rapper and has the sweeter clothing line….and the more radical hair…
This is not true. Shump played in the Finals. Delly not so much.
You got me there Cols. Shump did play more than Delly in THIS finals and he was pretty awful. That being said he had that 4 point play in game 7. I will forever love that team regardless.
Goodbye Delly! You will be missed.
Will there be any veterans left to take the veteran’s minimum with the Cavs?
Was tossing around Alan Anders, Alonzo Gee, and Wayne Ellington today. I think Ellington is probably min mid-level territory though.
https://twitter.com/TheVertical/status/749349263050670080
I guess KLove is no longer the “rich man’s Ryan Anderson…”
Makes Grif look even better for locking him up when he did. That era of max contracts looks so good now.
Same can be applied to TT
https://twitter.com/RealGM/status/749338567814426624
So, judging by Bazemore’s 4/$70M, maybe Cavs can still get JR for something like 3/$57M or 4/$75M…
Except JR Smith just won a title, as a starter, and played better defense and more minutes and is overall many times more valuable. I don’t see how JR doesn’t use this deal to squeeze a TT level deal out of gilbert
All true… the only thing Bazemore has on JR is age… and considering #Klutch involvement, you’re probably right…

Wasn’t the whole reason they traded for Ibaka was to give him big minutes at center? AND they still have Vucevic? Color me confused.
Boy, if the Celtics brought Tom Brady and STILL didn’t get Durant, that’d be…

For 20 minutes 5 points and 8 rebounds? Ugh. This offseason is nuts.
He’s getting Mozgov money… and actually did a lot more this year to earn it…
Good point. I’m so glad we have Tristan instead. Just a much better player
Per 36: 9 points, 13 rebounds 2.8 blocks. Low turnovers. Your math is nuts.
The funny thing, you’d be thrilled if Thompson upped his blocks and d-boards up to biyambo’s level.
Remember you telling me I was nuts for me saying how much money he was making with his play against the Cavs. Turns out i was underestimating how much he’d get.
https://twitter.com/TheVertical/status/749323586134020097
How is Kent bazemore expecting to earn $20M a year? If it were Monopoly money, he still isn’t worth that much paper. How? Where is there anyone with his production levels not starting who is getting that kind of cheese?!
John Leur got a $42 million contract
?
Is it strangely odd, or oddly strange, that none of the basketball sources have been speculating about JR talking to other teams?
I agree very odd – seems starting 2 guard for champs should get a lot of interest/coverage
Dan Gilbert has spent plenty on this team and investing in the fan experience. If they want Delly to walk, let him walk. Sheesh.
Yep. I mean they could definitely use Delly, especially during the regular season. But his 12 playoff minutes and zero finals minutes makes it a lot easier to let him go.
Deng and Joe Johnson bailed on Miami. Rumor has it D Wade has been offered $10MM a year over a three year period. D Wade currently vacationing with LBJ & Chris Paul. Any chance he signs for 1 year here for the same $10MM? Is it possible to trade Shump straight up for him?
I think it makes sense if GS or some other powerhouse signs KD. Plus, never underestimate the ability of LBJ getting what LBJ wants – and it all working out in the end.
And the poetic justice of D Wade taking his talents to “The Land”
I hope LeBron gets Chris Paul to Cleveland innstead.,
Oh my gosh that would be hilarious. Although as unsure as I was that Lue could fit LOve, Irving, and Lebron into the same offense and defense, I am doubly unsure how the heck you work DWade into that offense. All four of them need the ball to be effective right now
I’d say no chance he signs in Cleveland.
Big lead is beating up on Delly!
http://thebiglead.com/2016/07/01/milwaukee-bucks-abandon-reason-give-matthew-dellavedova-four-year-39-million-deal/
Yeah, I mean it’s true. It’s a pretty disappointing signing if you want a starting PG.
Delly will make you eat those words. Kidd is the perfect coach to take him to the next level. We’re Delly to average 10+ assists as a starter there, I wouldn’t be surprised at all. It’s all about fit
Yep. Kidd was the king of the low-scoring triple-double. (Career scoring average: 12.6 ppg.) He understands as well as anyone around how a point guard can control a game without being a big scorer himself.
Geez people. Delly is so physically limited. He was in the absolute best situation here. He’s not going to be nearly as effective playing against starters on a much worse team
Physically limited, but somehow gets everyone around him to play better.
C’mon Cols. . People mourning here a little. Have a heart. You got your wish Cols. He’s gone. No reason to throw dirt on top . Smh
All point guards are limited in an obvious sense. He can give a team some structure and keep things under control. Also, you got a short memory forgetting how effective Lebron was as role man off Delly with a shooter nearby. This didn’t work against GS but did with just about every other team. That’s going to be Gianni now.
The reason they didn’t play Delly was that Kyrie and Lebron ISO gave the CAVs the control to target Steph and Klay on offense and wear them down. Ball movement wouldn’t have done this so Delly was out but you need ball movement in the season so that you don’t have to play your starters 40 minutes per night. Learning the lesson of the finals too well and playing like that all the time might get Kyrie and Lebron injured in the regular season.
https://twitter.com/ShamsCharania/status/749215654503280640
I know Deng was barely a Cav, but it’s still weird to see LA always picking up leftover players, coaches…maybe they’ll give Chris Grant a job.
Would love to move Shump out there and keep Delly.
That would be dumb.
Agreed
Onto mediocrity!
https://twitter.com/daldridgetnt/status/749102566395420673
There is something to a guy knowing who he is. Joe Johnson does not care about winning. He wants as much money as he can get and he enjoys shooting.
EG doing work in this thread. Nice job. Date night kept me out. But EG has this situation exactly right.
If the players opt out of the CBA next summer, depending on what replaces it, the tax hit from the final three seasons of Delly’s contract could be reduced or eliminated altogether. Just something for Dan G. to consider…
Cavs should match. I thought if it was under 40 they’d match and if over 40 they’d let him walk.
Delly was fantastic this season and in the first 3 rounds of the playoffs.
He’s young, he’s improved every year, and this:
https://twitter.com/SynergySST/status/748969620221009920
https://twitter.com/SynergySST/status/748968858187206656
There is no doubt he had a very productive year. But there is also no doubt that his production and minutes plummeted in playoffs. If Cavs view him mainly as a regular season minutes eater who will cede minutes to better players in the playoffs, I can see why they are hesitant to pay $10M per yer. They probably think some combo of McRae, Shump, Mo will take his regular season minutes, do a bit worse but maybe get better over the season. So, while I would love to keep Delly, I also totally get Cavs decision. Also, check out… Read more »
Even with Delly’s shooting slump, the team was better with him in the game in the first three playoff series. Here are playoff stats by month from NBA.com. April = Pistons. May = Hawks and Raptors. The bottom line is that Delly’s net rating was about 4.5 points better than the team’s through the first three rounds. –Cavs in April: Offensive rating 115.8 Defensive rating 107.4 Net rating 8.4 –Delly in April: O rating 121.2 D rating 108.2 Net rating 13.0 –Cavs in May: O rating 116.4 D rating 101.1 Net rating 15.3 –Delly in May: O rating 112.9 D… Read more »
I think you have the numbers wrong. Below is a link to all Cavs players’ net ratings during playoffs. Delly is towards bottom at 2.2. Lowest amongst players playing 10+ mins. The Cavs net rating for whole playoffs was highest in league at 9.0.
http://stats.nba.com/league/player/#!/advanced/?Season=2015-16&SeasonType=Playoffs&TeamID=1610612739&sort=NET_RATING&dir=1
http://stats.nba.com/league/team/#!/advanced/?sort=NET_RATING&dir=1
Actually, I dug further: Delly’s Net Rating WAS higher than Team Net Rating in all 3 of first series. It was just super super low in Finals. So you are right on Net Rating — team played well with him on floor in first 3 series, despite slumping shooting numbers.
Yes, thanks for double-checking. And I take his low net rating in the Finals with a grain of salt, since most of his minutes came in the first two games when the whole team played poorly. He showed last year that he could hold his own against the Warriors, until the hospitalization that he never had proper time to recover from.
Wonder if the Kings end up with Jarrett Jack, Rondo AND Dion when all is said and done. It seems like a natural fit.
Royals lose. Tribe is 7 games up.
https://twitter.com/KingJames/status/749030712838348800
I am trying to be patient and see where team ends up at the end of FA. Lots of stuff open. Think about how important RJ signing was last year — it was very under the radar. You never know the full motivation of each decision until free agency is over.
Also, I think Jordan McRae is part of Delly decision. Team very very high on him. If we add no one else, he and Shunp take most of Dellys minutes. Mo will still mostly be a deep bench guy.
I’ll say it now. Delly is the next Rocky Colavito. Could be another 54 years. better match.
But just think of all the books that will be written if he leaves! Especially if the Bucks win a championship.
You know what? I don’t care. All I wanted was one. Sure I hope they win more, but they won a Championship. Anything they do from here on out is gravy to me honestly…
Sorry. He’s just my favorite player. Maybe ever.
I’m with you Nate. I love me some Delly. I’d be so sad to see him go and I’d instantly care 100x more about the bucks than I ever have before…either way though I’m glad he’s getting paid.
Also, just from a purely basketball standpoint, I hope we keep him. We’d be swapping guaranteed quality minutes for an unknown. Do we really want Mo playing 30ish minutes if Kyrie misses time due to injury?
He ain’t my favorite player. And I’m eternally content the rest of my basketball-fan life because we already won one. So to that extent I’m with you EG that things from here on are cherries on top… But the competitiveness in me well… I want to us compete the highest level as a fan behind the keyboard haha that’s why losing (maybe.. not yet) him is bringing me to all this statements haha
I only gained interest in baseball, the tribe in particular, in the Grady Sizemore vs Boston Red Sox series in 07 I think? After that never bothered in baseball again, hahaha. But I’m happy to hear positive news from them and the whole Cleveland sports in general!!! Cleveland Rocks!!!!!!Hope it can really start rubbing off on the Browns too..
The dark could has lifted! (We hope…)
Assuming they don’t match, this will be the first time since The Return that they haven’t gone “all in” to get or keep someone valuable, right?
There was the Andy trade, but he was barely playing, and that was more like a salary swap anyway with picking up Frye at the same time.
So, time to retire “All In” as a motto. How does “Mostly In” sound, or “In, to a Greater Rather Than Lesser Degree”?
I guess the short answer is that Delly just isn’t as valuable in the eyes of the guys making the decisions. He played a grand total of 46 minutes in the seven games of the Finals, only garbage time of three of the last four and didn’t play in Game 7. His minutes had steadily declined throughout the playoffs and he was essentially a non-factor from the Detroit series on. I didn’t really understand Ty Lue not playing him, but clearly he lost faith or favor in Delly. Bottom line, if Lue isn’t going to use him, why is Dan… Read more »
Because they play the regular season??
And the regular season matters all that much? The Warriors disproved that point…
Helping Kyrie (and to some extent Shump) recover and keep him fresh with the grind of the season.
If Barbosa and Livingston never showed up the first 2 games GS would’ve been swept. If Delly is trash he won’t help galvanize the team by the 2nd half of the season. We would’ve a more difficult path in the east if Delly wasn’t helping preserve Kyrie.
And I’m certain that by just helping lift Kyrie’s load 10m is pretty fair.
I guess the Cavs are gambling that they will have a healthy backcourt next year then… Like I said, I don’t agree with not matching for Delly… I just see why they wouldn’t…
Delly’s minutes dropped against Atlanta and Toronto compared with the regular season, but even with his shooting slump, the offense usually ran better when he was in the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0j3X3UoWZo
Not disagreeing at all… but then again, I’m not the coach… or the GM… or the owner who has to foot the bill…
If Lue has really lost confidence in him and it wasn’t just a matchup issue in the Finals, then yes, there’s no point in paying him, especially with the tax bite.
But it’s hard to see Delly go when Shump is still here with a similar contract — as poorly as Shump played all season and throughout the playoffs, including the Finals and Game 7.
Shrimp played poorly on offense in the playoffs and the Finals…and game 7…..but defensively he was solid
Shump was bad defensively in Game 7. He made a bunch of mistakes letting Curry get off, to the point where Van Gundy said on the last possession he thought it was a mistake to have Shump on Curry.
I’d have to go back and look at the rest of the series, but no question Shump was bad defensively in Game 7.
He was horrible in at least two other games, too. I think he was good defensively in at least one game….game three, maybe. Mediocre to terrible in most of the other games. Got lost on switches constantly.
Curry didn’t get off in game 7. He finished w 17 pts. From 3 he was 4 of 14
Maybe “get loose” would be more accurate than “get off.” Fortunately the Warriors and Curry especially were worn down physically by Game 7 and missed a lot of open shots because they didn’t have their legs.
4 of 14 (28%) I realize that Shumpert wasn’t on him the entire time, but he did make who ever he was guarding. – either splash brother – that he made them work a lot more than they’re used to. Also, when VanGund said that, I immediately disagreed, even though it didn’t really matter at that point – a 4 point lead with 10 seconds left – all that is required is to not foul. If you look, i think you’ll find Shumpert played well defensively in each if the series. Which is his role on this team. A perimeter… Read more »
Shump.
That’s the only real piece that makes this difficult. The Shump contract really puts is in a bind….in terms of Delly (far more valuable than Shump last year) and JR. (well within his rights to demand similar money, if not more). I think at some point Shump will need to go if he doesn’t turn it around.
That was a matchup issue, and Lue hadn’t figured out how to work an eight man rotation.
It’s not like Delly didn’t make out well. He just made a ton of money. And, he’ll probably get a lot more opportunity to play under Jason Kidd. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him become the starter over Michael Carter Williams at some point. This happens on championship teams. You can’t keep everyone. I was actually surprised they kept everyone last year. I’m disappointed he’s likely gone, but it doesn’t change my feeling about the team…
Delly probably starts over MCW right away. MCW lost his starring spot by the end of the season iirc
POSSIBLY THIS IS DELLY’S WAY OF ” HELPING ” THE CAVS—SIGNING EARLY/FOR A RELATIVELY ( SEEING ALL THE OTHER ABSURD CONTRACTS BEING THROWN AROUND )BARGAIN PRICE—AGAIN THIS MAY ALLOW CAVS BRASS TO ” DIGEST ” THE MARKET—–GET J.R UNDER CONTRACT/ AND THEN GO BACK AND POSSIBLY BRING BACK THE ” WOMBAT “—–” IT AIN’T OVER TILL IT’S OVER “——–MAN STILL CAN’T BELIEVE THAT TRIBE GAME —–WHAT A GREAT COUPLE OF WEEKS —-MEMORY WISE HERE IN NORTHEAST O-H-I-O !!
10 mil per. For a guy who’se going to be a SOLID contributor from the bench to back up your percious starting PG who’s a little fragile in terms of health, in a market where in a year you will have $hitload of money, where you can secure him in his prime. Not to mention a contract that is going to be attractive in part of future deals because of that cap.
Tell me what did I miss??
You missed the impact that re-signing JR at probably between 18-20 per (if Bazemore gets his money) is going to have on @CavsDan’s pocketbook… It’s all about hanging onto the guys who were on the floor in Game 7… whether we like it or not…
Sure because we’re gonna be put again in a similar situation next year right? Before FA began, this was the scenario were dreaming regarding Delly. Someone offer him a contract we can match.
Who was dreaming of?
And yes, it will be a similar situation next year… but then it will be having to pay LBJ something like 5/$200M…
I’m not talking about similar situation with regards to the cap. I’m replying to what you said that we’re hanging on guys that were useful in the finals as if Delly hasn’t been an important part of the run in helping us to be positioned in there. Or we’re sure in facing GS again in the finals where Delly wasn’t used.. In regards to “dreaming of” aren’t we (I know this includes you no matter how realistic you say you are) all hoping a scenario where Delly could get retained then not hamper the team in the near future?? I would have loved for Ty Lue to use Delly more not just in the Finals, but also throughout the playoffs and the stretch run. It was clear that he had a different role in the team with the change in coaches, and that Lue inexplicably preferred Shump and his erratic dribbling ways over Delly. I don’t pretend to know what that was about, but the fact is that Lue isn’t going anywhere after winning the championship. So, if he’s not going to use Delly, no matter how valuable you and I think he is, or worth the under $10M… Read more »
I hope EG’s posted article about LeBron “jumping the gun” means the Cavs may still match. As posted below, Delly’s 20 minutes or so during the regular season will help keep Irving fresh. Having Mo as the main back-up is a little scary. If Delly is gone, thanks for showing that grit and hard work does indeed pay dividends. “Austrialia night” at the Q when Delly had a great game will be a nice memory.
The thing about Mo is no one has any idea if he can stay on the court. He sure didn’t this year. Not sure why anyone would pencil him in as a backup…

That Tribe game was EPIC!!
thank you for the great fun, Delly!
Assuming he’s gone, I’ll miss him. I think its a mistake basketball-wise to let him go. However, we have a ring, and that’s all that mattered two weeks ago. Still true today. I’d be much more upset if we lost game 7 with this news. Champs, from players to coaches to FO, get benefit of the doubt. And if they fail? Don’t care. We got one.
I wish him the absolute best of luck and he’s earned his money, no doubt. Kill it in Wisconsin, Wombat.
Our ring matters for the rest of our lives. I’ll rub that into any other fanbase in ghe most non-a$$hole way hahaha
Why is the theme somehow is that the Cavs wont match the offer? I mean with all the ridiculous amonunt of $ being thrown around and to whom it is being sent, Delly’s deal is an absolute steal for the Bucks, or for the Cavs to match it. 10 mil per? I’d say keep him. If he goes like 12 and above then let him go. That’s a Shump deal for a guy who’s more valuable than Shump. He’s worth the money for the job of keeping Kyrie fresh, defense, fluidity on offense and a mountain of intangibles. I hope… Read more »
Agree completely, but “insiders” say we’re not matching.
And the biggest “insider” is the MVP of the Finals…
I loved Delly, no question. I am sad to see him go. That said (and I hate to sound Colsian about it but…) I am willing to give @CavsDan, Griff, LBJ and whoever else is making decisions on this team at least a year of leeway on any and every decision based solely on that gleaming gold Larry O’Brien trophy they brought home this summer…
While I agree with that sentiment, why not match? His contract will be small in a year anyway. Even if he had reached his peak he’d still be a solid contributor as a back up PG in the least. He’s getting money same as Shump who we reasoned that a guy who’s still have a good ceiling. The guy is perfect for our formula.
Matching doesn’t just mean $9M per year with the Cavs in the tax penalty… it’s more like $30 or $40M I believe… and they still have to pay JR and RJ, who (based on playing time in the playoffs) are bigger priorities…
Taking into context the absurd cap for next year? A year of sacrifice for 4 years of consistency…
Again… it’s not our money, it’s Dan’s. He and LBJ delivered the chip… you can’t have everything…
I understand man. But this.. That money is a great (somehow) bargain at this point even better after a year. I know Dan and co has to set boundaries in salaries for our players. But do they seriously thought that price is too much for a player of his value on our team? They still be paying taxes even if they paid Delly a penny and some, so why is 10 mil all of a sudden too high?? Again the player in consideration is Delly and his value to our team in contrast to the landscape of the cap. Just… Read more »
Value as defined by those of us who love and revere what he contributed during the year. The only value that matters, whether you or I or anyone else likes it or not, is the value the Cavs put on having Delly on the team. It’s pretty simple to me. If Ty Lue isn’t going to use Delly, then why should CavsDan feel compelled to pay him? That’s their business, whether we like it or not. I choose to give them the benefit of the doubt (even though Delly was a favorite of mine) primarily because they won the championship.… Read more »
Ty didn’t use Delly in one series.ONE. It is the finals, but sure, let them pretend he ain’t vital to keeping Kyrie fresh and giving the bench a huge lift for an ENTIRE season including three (ok two) playoff series. I know only the fans saw that. Only us, not those team experts. Are those values we defined all of a sudden untrue for those who are in the team?
It was three actually. He played less than 15 minutes in all but the Detroit series… and he was clearly using him less down the stretch…
I think you’re letting this get you too upset… Delly was a great player to rally around because he was the perpetual scrappy underdog who found a way to contribute regardless of stats… It would be great to keep him, but it would be greater to keep JR and RJ at this point… If CavsDan doesn’t care to spend the money, that’s his business… It might suck, but you find ways to move on…
I am with you EG. If losing Delly to Milwaukee means we sign JR and RJ, then it was a necessary departure. Lue did go from saying “if you don’t like Delly, you don’t like basketball” to apparently losing confidence in him.
This was a gut punch. He was really a huge part of the heart and soul of the team. Always standing up and cheering on his team mates. Ready to give his all in the hour of need. I’m upset and can’t say much more. I don’t want to be trolled Delly stinks garbage. I hope the hell Griffin knows what he is doing. He better have a Plan B ready and not fake us out and then we find out later pft nothing.
I feel you man. I really hope try don’t let him go.
Ugh. So many typos
It’s folly to think the Cavs could get similar production from another d-leaguer of udfa. Delly was special because he defied those odds.
Agree Nate! I often remember my son’s football coach always saying , “If I have kid with talent and a kid that plays with all heart in the last play of a game with a win on the line, guess who I’m putting in? Kid with heart every time! They will do the impossible! They will make it happen” This is Delly!
Agreed. It would be a minor miracle if Felder could put up Delly production.

EG, looks like you are high on #20. Do you actually think he can contribute as a rookie, or down the road after some development?
I watched him play a bit last year. He was unbelievable in that game against Michigan St. that they almost won. And it’s more about his passing than his scoring even. I do think he’ll be able to contribute and will erase the need for Mo Gotti…
I watched him 2 or 3 times last year…great college player. At his height, though, I’ll be surprised if he sees the court in the NBA. It is what it is.
My concern is how is he going to be defensively….guys will post him up….44″ vertical or not, most will still be able to simply rise up on him. Hope I’m wrong.
You are insinuating that Delly’s success was due entirely to luck. I would contend that scouting and coaching were just as responsible for his success as a UDFA.
Delly will be a great addition to any team and I’ll gladly stand-up and applaud when he comes back to the land for his first game back.
Sad to see him go but we had tremendous value from him, and now it is payday. I like the bucks a lot and think he will do well there. For those writing off McRae and Felder, remember that Delly was a UDFA. McRae now has a year under his belt and could be a good value player (granted I think he’s more of a hybrid 2 but could learn more point sets, we don’t really know), and Felder *could* have good value in another year after D league coaching. Or we could sign another UDFA or one from the… Read more »
Delly’s gonna have a lot of fun throwing up lobs to Greek Freak, Jabari and Monroe… Wouldn’t be surprised for Kidd to really help elevate his game also…
That gives me some comfort that Delly will have Jason Kidd as his coach. I believe Kidd will further Delly’s skill set even more. I was disappointed Lue seem to give up on him as the season went on.
Absolutely… Delly is very much in that Kidd model, but with a better three point shot
Complex article on LBJ jumping the gun…

THINK THE CAVS HAD A LONG TIME TO EVALUATE “THE MIGHTY QUINN ” / THE ORANGE MAMBA ” AND SEE WHAT DELLY BROUGHT TO THE TABLE ( AND ALSO WHERE HE MIGHT PEAK AT—AND ALSO AFTER 3 YRS IN THE LEAGUE –IF TEAMS WERE STARTING TO EXPOSE HIS WEAKNESSES / PRICE WAS TOO HIGH BASED ON THESE FACTS —–ALSO FROM WHAT I READ / AND SEE FELDER MIGHT BE A VERY PLEASANT/CHEAP SURPRISE
We’re seriously talking ourselves into d-leaguers and shrimps to replace one of the best advanced metrics players on the Cavs.
When you say we, you mean @CavsDan, Griff and LBJ, right?
Yeah, highly unlikely the Cavs get anything approaching Delly’s production from D leaguers. Good for Delly, and he earned it all himself, but this is a big loss.
I mean, I’ll miss the guy, but you can’t have everything…
Kay Felder… possible new nickname…
I agree with all of this.
Posted this on the previous thread, but worth re-posting and remembering the best of times with this unlikely duo…

The kid will be missed, for sure. Especially during the regular season. Of course, at that kind of money, Delly is nothing like the amazing bargain he has been for the last 2 years. Seeing Delly get a real NBA career was always the thing I most hoped for him when he won my heart during his rookie year. No doubt the Bucks are hoping to bring a bit of the Cavs winning attitude and professionalism to their locker room. I really hope the Cavs bring in some youth to replace Delly. Sure they can probably get a bevy of… Read more »
Very sad to see him go. Loved his grit and effort. Just one of those great character glue guys on the roster that helps the team get through the long, grueling season.
Seeing him shut Curry down in Game 2 last year was one of my favorite Cavs moments ever. Wish him all the best.
Guess I need a new name :(
Keep it!
It just… wouldn’t feel right….
Nah, he got a ring, we got to enjoy it, and now he gets to get paid. He’s a part of Cavs history now. I vote keep the name.
Agreed.
