Live Thread: Cavs @ Knicks, 12/7/16
2016-12-07The Cleveland Cavaliers find themselves trapped in New York for an evening. The only way out? Survive an action packed, white-knuckle 5-on-5 bout of Deathball to the… erm, well, to the death… against the New York Knicks in what will be known as the gladiatorial showcase of Game Twenty of Eighty Two. The bloodthirsty masses of Madison Square Garden grow restless. Trump SoHo looms ominously along the skyline. What heroes will rise and fall? Will LeBron James and his rough-n-tumble posse take care of business? Will overlord Phil Jackson make an appearance, and will it be awkward? How’s J.R.’s knee doing? The answers to these questions and more await their… answering… as the clock strikes 8:00 (EST) on the seventh day of December.
…or something like that. For a deeper look at tonight’s matchup, be sure to check out Robert Attenweiler’s Point-Forward as he discusses the opposition, both teams’ benches, and some other Cavs/Knicks trends, as well as the latest (good news) on J.R. Smith (who will not be suiting up as DeAndre Liggins starts in his place). Let’s see if the Cavs can…
ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (with a win).
Comments should be fixed if you reload the page. Sorry guys.
Thx Nate
Liggins with another 3. Think he is earning most of Dunleavy’s minutes.
LIG-SANITY!
Good start to the second half. They have come out with focus and have pulled away. Hopefully they can keep it up and put this game completely out of reach by the 4th.
In this game anyway, Liggins looks like a rotation player.
Have to agree. He made a 3 this game and against the raptors. Additionally I like his d in the last few games. Glad he has taken all of Mcrae’s minutes.
Liggins with another 3!
He’s played some high energy D. Hey, looks like the comments are back.
All praise Nate!
Why won’t they give the bench a run?
Still pretty early in the second half… there will be plenty of time for them…
The Cavs are so much fun to watch when they are locked in… which is probably why it’s so annoying to watch them when they’re not… double edged sword…
They are really devastating in transition especially with all these 3s
Yeah. If they just lock in for 2 and a half to three quarters a game they won’t need to play james more than 30 to 32 mintues a night in most cases.
He shoulda just finished that one tho…
Liggins gets KLove a second chance at three… he doesn’t miss it…
LOL at Santa talking to Zinger in Latvian…

Vines aren’t working in the comments tonight, right? But it’s worth getting those last two LeBron highlights on the record:

Yeah… something screwy with the comments section… we’ve lost visuals. I’m sure Nate is on the case…
I watched this Vine on ESPN. It’s funny after James’ dunk, he walks across the baseline toward a woman in a blue sweatshirt. She recoils and her body language screams fear.
Honestly thought we’d have seen more Lig-sanity…
TT blocked Jennings, looked like he checked on him on the floor to make sure he was ok, then got the rebound on the next shot.
I sometimes find myself forgetting how awesome LeBron is… then he reminds me…
He takes a break from chill mode at the garden.
Still the best player in the world and he shows it when he wants to. That alley oop in the raptors game where he came down a little awkward was ridiculous. His head was nearly level with the rim.
Monster and then a beautiful spin move. Wow
Great finish to the half
Hammer… thrown… DOWN
Oh my goodness!
I know it won’t show up… but worth clicking on…

Wonder if Bray is going to get Blake in the nutz later tonight…
Can only hope… I almost scored tix to that one tonight…
You can tell when Liggins is the game, but not Dunleavy. Mike D played 7 mins, but I can’t remember a thing he did.
I think anything Mike gives us this year will be gravy…
I hate to agree as I had high hopes for him to add some decent bench depth, but he has looked bad, really, really bad. I cringe every time he has to guard a decently mobile wing on the perimeter. If he can’t start hitting threes, I might consider giving more of his minutes to Liggins, if only for defense.
Just tossed the ball around a few times. He has a giant fork in his back, though.
Well Knicks creeping back in the game. We have missed some wide open 3s, but that was eventually bound to happen. Might be a good idea to try to get some paint looks either from Love or LBJ, or some p and r with KY/LBJ and Thompson. Knicks moving the ball way better this year than I can remember in the past few years.
TT needs to hit the boards better this game
Man… I can’t believe the Andersons got tickets to the game…
Cavs not getting after it on the glass as much now…
TAKE LEBRON OUT OF THE GAME NOW.
But he loves playing at MSG… /s
time for that King Kyrie
Cavs need to get the Mindfreak back in for some D…
Zinger’s release looks like a mix of Dirk and Bird.
Cavs with 8 made threes already…
Nice turnaround jumper by the Zinger.
Not bad for a 7’4 unicorn…
I don’t understand why the Knicks don’t get the ball to the Zinger more…
Only 2 turnovers and have just given up 10 in the paint. Nice
Shump! His shot looks so smooth this year…
Yeah, I really thought his 3 would fall off fairly quick, but he is still well over 40 percent. He was pretty decent at corner spot ups last year from what I recall, but he seems to be much more consistent from the wings now.
Nice move by Shump… just missed the layup
Boy, O’quinn is a bruiser isn’t he?
Knicks are 4-0 with him in starting lineup…
I actually always liked his game. He was a bright spot on some of those Orlando teams. Big dude and clearly has always brought toughness. A true enforcer in a league with very few remaining.
Very much so… he’s also one of those guys who seems to play his best against the Cavs historically…
He should go full Harden with the beard.
Doesn’t seem like a flagrant… although he did hit him in the head…
RJ three!
Well not a bad quarter was hoping to be up by more, but we had some shots rim out at the end, and bad luck with the shump dunk miss and love not getting the foul called in the final seconds.
Kevin with the Hans Gruber…
Uh oh… Shump blew the dunk and hurt his hand…
I would have laid over and died too after missing a wide open layup that badly.
So true… If he was really hurt, he would have come out of the game…
Yeah not sure how that happened. Think he lost the ball on the way up and jammed his finger on the rim.
He may have traveled, too. Fugly.
So far so good. Close out the quarter well. No sloppiness. Don’t let up now and let’s try to put this team away early.
Sorry, Coach…
Just saying if they have a chance to put the pressure on early they shouldn’t let up like they did in parts of the raptors game.
I agree. The second unit did not get the job done.

Remember last year? When they would go to Love early and he wouldn’t do anything? Maybe he can do this in The Playoffs…
I’d say The Mindfreak did a pretty good job in his first quarter as a starter…
ISN’T IT REFRESHING ( I’M SURE KLOVE THINKS SO ) THAT IT HAS BEEN ALMOST 3 WEEKS WITHOUT A LOVE TRADE RUMOR —-THINK THOSE SHOULD BE PRETTY MUCH A DONE DEAL
He’s playing at an All-Star level so far this year… I really hope he gets a spot
Love playing some good defense, too.
I guess the big difference here is that the Knicks are just not good at defense…
Banana in the tailpipe…
What i wouldn’t give to post a banana in a tailpipe pic right now…
KLOVE EN FUEGO!
Is Kevin Love a better QB than Cody Kessler?
With Love at QB and LBJ at wide out… even the Browns might win a game…
TOUCHDOWN!
Knicks look as careless with the ball as Cavs were against the Clips and Bulls…
Brandon Jennings is no longer a replacement level PG…
Knicks having a tougher time handling the ball without DRose…
Lights out shooting.
Love is just deadly these days…
That was a nice attempt by Kyrie to set up TT inside… just didn’t go down…
It’s amazing a dude as big as the Zinger can shoot the ball that well from deep…
Pretty smooth stroke from Lig-sanity….
Time to Lig-in again (begin again)
Nice one
Nice near strip of the Zinger by the Mindfreak to affect his shot…
Lue says Liggins is a junk yard dawg and I trust him
KLove drains it!
Love the jerseys tonight!
Some classic New York based movies are among my favorites. Maybe LeBron should have done a Travis Bickle/DeNiro with Phil: “You talking to me?” James doesn’t have enough hair anymore for a Mohawk.
Comments section is a bit off kilter tonight guys… sorry
Welcome to an NBA Wednesday

did Demarre get charged with a foul?
fined for a flop?
D ROSE OUT FOR TONIGHT’S GAME
WAS JUST WATCHING THE CANTON CHARGE ( DLEAGUE ) 1ST HALF —MORELAND 10 PTS/ 10 REB’S/ 4 STL’S /4 ASSISTS / 4 BLOCKS ( NOT A BAD 1ST HALF –DIDN’T EVEN PLAY ENTIRE HALF ) —-” THE MIGHTY QUINN ” WITH 20 1ST HALF PTS—WOULD ALMOST RATHER SEE HIM IN A CAVS UNIFORM THAN MAMBA—AT PRESENT HE IS RATED AS THE 5TH BEST PRO PROSOPECT
Hopefully we come out and take care of business early tonight so we can lighten the minute load on James. Watched a replay of the raptors game today. While they obviously played better than they have been, especially in the paint, they had several opportunities to close out the raptors early, especially in the fourth quarter. Instead they ended up playing some sloppy ball and letting the Raptors back in the game several times. Sloppy turnovers, heat checks, and poor shot selection during these stretches made it close until the end. This resulted in our starters playing way more minutes… Read more »
porzingas is overrated
Considering it is his second year and that he is what 20, I think he is pretty good.
yea but kay felder is 21 so….
WILL SEE IF ” THE HONEYMOON IS OVER/TORONTO GAME ” WAS JUST A MIRAGE OR THAT THE CAVS ARE RECOMMITED TO PLAYING HARD EVERY GAME
Nice intro Carson! For the record… Snake Plissken doesn’t give a **** about your president… ;)
Ha! Knew that if anyone, you would like it.
