Live Thread: Cavs @ Blazers
2017-01-11The Cavs hope that the second game of the Kyle Korver era goes more smoothly than the first. Somehow, adding one of the best marksmen of all-time tightened up the Wine and Gold into one of their worst shooting games of the past few seasons. The Blazers may be the perfect team to get Cleveland back on track. With Damian Lillard back from his two week absence, Portland is again a complete and utter sieve on defense. Despite having adequate defensive bigmen in Ed Davis and Meyers Leonard, the Trail Blazers are third to last in defensive efficiency. It might have to do with the fact that Mr. Lillard is 80th out of 85 point guards in defensive RPM. RPM isn’t an infallible metric, but it passes the ole’ smell test on Lillard. By all accounts, Damien is an incredible leader and exceptional teammate. People simply love the dude. Great. That is also incredibly important as actual people play in the NBA and the human element matters. But sweet baby basketball, is Lillard horrific on defense. Look for the Cavs to repeatedly get into the paint. Add a little winter wonderland to the mix, and the Cavs should be back to scorching the nets.
Against the Jazz, the Cavs threw Korver out there with some weak lineups. Kyle should play with at least one, if not two, of the big three at all times. He needs to get used to being a complementary piece and not the primary focus of the offense. Some standstill catch and shoot three point attempts coming off strong side LeBron/Kyrie PnR action should help Korver get his rhythm. It won’t take much. The dude is a flat stud shooting the ball. I expect the Cavs to hit 20 plus threes in this one. Law of averages will swing in Cleveland’s favor. Sound off.
Did Dunleavy stick his fork in Korver on his way out?
C’mon… dude hasn’t even practiced with this team (thanks to Dunleavy)….
I know, I’m just being snarky.
Also have to factor in the fact that he hasn’t been playing alot of minutes recently and dealing with moving his family. He has alot on his plate right now I am sure. Most likely won’t see him fully integrated until after they finish this road trip.
Honestly, it’s kind of scary. Gave up a first…
Not scary at all…
Pretty sure Dunleavy could have been -18 in 19 minutes.
I think he could top that…don’t underestimate Dunleavy’s -/+ abilities…
Shump finally made a shot.
Probably doesn’t matter… but I could see the Cavs returning home with a four game losing streak…
Yeah me too…hopefully they are healthy. That’s all that counts right now
Cavs have missed 4 straight shots from point blank range.
no one in their 30s or who suffered an injury in the 2015 playoffs should be in this game right now.
Why Kyrie?
Haven’t seen Liggins out there in a while… he’s the only guy who can guard CJ effectively…
Need to sit Kyrie today
That last play epitomizes this game… Portland just getting after it… leads to open CJ three…
Yep…they have clearly wanted it way, way more from the opening tip…
Felder time. No point in continuing this embarassment
This is painful.
Indeed
This group on the floor needs to close it to a half dozen to make it worth bringing LeBron back…
If they can close it to a half dozen we don’t want to bring Lebron back
Why? He’s still LeBron…
he’s been super ineffective as a passer this game. Let him rest regardless
Still leads the team with four assists tho…
Haha…
Cavs bigs are getting owned by Ed Freaking Davis…
We reached 10 assists! Huzzah!
Man we could use some Allen Crabbe on our roster.
He would never have developed in cleveland
I don’t think he’s worth his current contract, either…and I even sort of like him. That contract is absurd.
Yea, I know. I hate that.
Irving and Love are taking craps at center court. Remind me again why we didn’t match a reasonable contract for a back up point guard who was a pitbull on defense and ran the offense perfectly?
Cuz there can’t be a sports season in Cleveland without crippling drama and nerve racking flaws
Just atrocious decision making from Lebron in the quarter. No one knows how to be in the right spots for him right now
These games mean nothing. Just gotta stay healthy.
Whatever offense calls for Shump to take jumpers with over 10 on the shot clock is incorrect.
Actually some closeouts on that possession…
Does anyone remember what we got for Allen Crabbe?
2 second round picks…no idea who they got with the picks…
Wasn’t it Deng? lol
probably gave them away to someone to shed contracts.
On June 27, 2013, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Crabbe with the 31st overall pick in 2013 NBA draft. He was later traded on draft night to the Portland Trail Blazers for two future second-round picks.[9]
Cavs really letting Blazers crash the offensive glass…
Man, it is a road trip in January alright.
Blazers aren’t exactly the team you get away with being beyond lazy on D…I’ve seen enough…
Yep me too. Got to get up in 6 hours. Hate losing sleep on Cav losses on West Coast games.
Just four more LBJ jacks from three oughtta do it… /s
Yikes. We have 9 assists. Total. Might be time for bowling.
What the heck is going on with the offense? Have we not practiced in a month?
Probably a week, but still… they’ve been struggling for a bit now…
https://twitter.com/JasonLloydABJ/status/819412186741108736
Yikes!!
Yeah, think that’s gonna do it…
Okay… this game is over… don’t think it’ll get as bad as the “quit on Blatt” game last year… but it’ll still be an ugly margin…
Rest them Lue. Get Felder some run. Dumb meaningless game that just puts player health at risk because of asinine NBA scheduling. Horrible combination of travel, lack of rest/sleep, poor weather.
Yep…he should sit the starters now, but he probably won’t….
Lue needs to change some of these line-ups . NOT WORKING!
I remember when Cavs had Hustle guys. Where are they?
Are you serious right now?
Are you watching this game at all for the entire 3 quarters? Especially on Defense
You don’t judge their effort in these circumstances.
WTH is Shump even doing out there on D?
McCollum heating up and Cavs choosing to run offensive plays for TT and Lig…
Cols went to bed, too bad, since with all the dribbling and bricking shots, this is his kind of hoops…
My Lord… Hubie Brown sucks…

Kyrie is gonna have to bring us back by himself. Having JR on offense and defense was so much more of a help than I thought
Cavs are colder than this sign…
?w=650
CJ hits a wide open three to start the half and then a badly missed Kyrie three leads to Blazer runout… not a good beginning…
Has Hubie decided to adopt Crabbe yet?
More turnovers than assists = certain recipe for disaster…
Kyrie doing a bad job of helping Tom refute @JerryEnglemann…
Just tuned in… so Cavs shooting worse than last night? Leaving Crabbe open from three?
Shooting pretty poorly, Crabbe has been hot, CJ and Lillard haven’t really been on…if they heat up in 2nd half, that’ll probably do it…
Also Cavs have been pretty sloppy with the ball, I know you’ve seen that movie before, though…
It seem things started to turn around a little with Liggins out there. We can’t have so many players unwilling to defend like this. Liggins looked better on defense than Shump even. Lue is going to have to use him more if this piss poor effort continues.
Kyrie seems like he got no sleep.
LBJ looks pretty disengaged, too…had several terrible turnovers…most of the team seems about half there.
Halftime, time for the mute button…
Love has kept the Cavs in the game so far…
These western conference teams move the ball so well
Frye is such a trick or treat player
Ugh…… the dog days of the season
This is a meh game…
This game is pissing me off.
Well, we won’t bring it every night..
Feel like Korver just doesn’t have his legs under him.
Let’s hope he gets them.
Whelp. I’m going to sleep.
Korver is good so far on defense.
Fielder is going to be good once he gets some experience.
Hubie Brown sucks.
Frye is sweet
This one is feeling pretty stinkaroo…Felder really needs to get an outside shot, too..
He needs minutes, it’s tough. He’s still not acclimated with the speed of the game. He always seems to be trying to overcompensate for his size and ends up playing rushed.
Are the team patient enough to wait for him to develop tho? We know Lebron ain’t.
Stupid NBA with way too many games
Nah.
Love looks ok.
Lillard with the Kyriesque kiss off the glass.
Alright Korver, let’s go baby!
Cavs look great. But tired.
WTF does that mean?
Why does Hubie hate the Cavs?
Kevin Love back home, following up a balletic turnover with a three!
Well hello Cavs vs. Trailblazers on ESPN! Just became aware of that. Let’s go Cavs!
Kinda hope CJ isn’t on tonight…when he’s feeling it, he hits almost everything…
HOPING TO SEE KSHRIMP GET MORE THAN 5 MINUTE RUN AND LIGS CONTINUE HIS STEADY PLAY AND KNOCK DOWN THE CORNER 3—–AND ALSO HOPING TO SEE THE ” REAL THREEZUS –BRINGING THE RAIN DOWN “
