Live Thread: Cavs vs Wizards
2017-03-25Cavs! Wizards! LeBron? Questionable. Channing Frye? Who knows? Probably? John Wall? Nursing a migraine.
The Wizards are no easy out but have lost four of the last seven (though two straight). Wall, Beal, Markieff, Porter, and Gortat form a potent starting lineup that can score and rebound with the best of them. Bojan Bogdonovich has shored up their bench scoring (15 ppg). The backcourt gives them 45 a night, and Porter is among the league’s best shooting 44% from three. It’s going to be a tall order, but let’s hope the Cavs’ get in their heads a little bit. Should be a high scoring affair, just like last time, when LeBron hit one of the great regular season shots of all time to send the game to overtime. I’m predicting this one 128-125, Cavs.

Fastbreak points favor Wiz 12-2… coincidentally the difference in the scoring margin…

I think this is one of those games where being home is a disadvantage. The Cavs are all thinking about how great it’s going to be to sleep in their own bed tonight.
I’ve said this before… I’ll say it again… Fire Longabardi…
I think scheme is part of it. This team cannot switch easily, but I also think we are limited to some extent by our personnel in that regard. Our best defensive lineups are nowhere near our best offensive lineups. We hardly have any two way guys.
We didn’t last year either…
Well, JR has taken a step back defensively and stump isn’t playing. Delly really helped a ton during the regular season and first few rounds of the playoffs. Deron Williams isn’t delly defensively. Jefferson may be another year slower, and don’t ask Korver, or Frye to stop anyone one on one. Tristan does not look anywhere near as mobile and Kyrie is Kyrie. Love’s rotation’s are ok but don’t expect him to be able to switch consistently. Major changes, no delly to hide Kyrie, JR has not been the same, shump has generally not been as good on that end,… Read more »
Yeah, but all the same guys with the same ability except for Delly… who does not qualify as a two way player… All about effort…
Think TNT is gassed, and some of those vets (frye, Jefferson) are a year older and likely a bit slower.
Gotta make our offense our defense
I think we have too many bad defensive habits to ” turn it on” in the post season. Add me to the skeptical column about making it back to the Finals
I’m with you. They have not looked like an elite team for a while.
Well, at least they won one title… anything more is gravy IMHO…
I think we also have a lot of negative defenders, or guys who are very easy to put in certain mismatches which are problematic.
Come on. Don’t get discouraged. They can just flip the switch once the playoffs come. What does Lebronze call it? Oh yeah, Playoff Mode. They aren’t in Playoff Mode yet.
Tristan’s defense has been totally non-existent lately. The Cavs don’t have a rim protector and the opponent’s know it.
They don’t need a rim protector… they need at least passable individual defense…
Starts on the perimeter. If everyone gets blown by, there is nothing you can do.
How many times does it take a team giving up 70+ points in a half for defense to be recognized as a problem? The cavs actually were trying this half. They just got roasted one on one and in the p and r yet again.
La Flama Blanca on the PhantomCam! Very exciting…

Unlikely the Wiz can shoot 70% for the game…
Terrible awareness on the box out…
Need a stop…
Nobody wanted that rebound… nobody wanted to get in front of Wall… not going to win that way…
High pick and roll is a killer…
We look slow as molasses defending it.
Good contest at the rim by love on gortat. Probably caused the miss leading to lbj runout.
Cavs attacking the rim… drawing some fouls on the Wiz…
If JR can get going…
If the cavs win this game the way the wizards have played this first half, I think it would be the second best win on the season behind the gs win.
Man, Kyrie got all ball there it looked like…
That last wall layup was ridiculous. Unbelievable body control and flexibility.
Wall is the problem… got to find a way to slow him down… no Shump tonight, so wouldn’t mind seeing a few minutes of Liggins on him to try cooling him off…
Good idea, but it will never occur to Lue.
Momentum killing shot there by Ky…
I mean it was a great game and he was wide open, just a little deep maybe.
Great fake
I agree. He should attack Wall more.
Fighting back with some better D the last two minutes…
Exactly, got to be better defensively.
Rare FT miss for Ky…
Irving should have passed to a wide open Love
Keep the momentum going…
Just gotta get a couple of stops…
Chalking that LBJ pass up to corneal abrasion…
Got to close out on them defensively, they are shooting uncontested jumpshots most of the time.
Our individual man on man defense has to get way better.
Wiz still shooting 75%

DEEP FRYE!
The Morris twins are snot nosed punks.
No foul on Morris for the shot to the neck on Bron… smh
DWill and LeBron nice 2-man action.
Good backcut by Frye and LBJ found him…

48 points allowed with 9:19 still left in the 2nd quarter. Just wow!?
I second AC’s disbelief at this review. I mean, I challenge Tony Brothers to shoot a layup without bringing his knee up.
Yeah, this is a good use of time…
Stopping any sort of dribble penetration from either ISO or p and r is a major weakness for the cavs.
DWill!
LBJ!

I mean… if Jason Smith is hitting buzzer beating threes… it might just be Washington’s night…
Wow. 40 points on 82% shooting for the Wizards in the first quarter.
Wall’s taking us to school. He is hot for a reason. The cavs knows he can get anywhere he wants on us so they are giving him a huge cushion or switching needlessly. He has a huge space for the jumper. Also the wizards are moving the ball well and our transition d is still bad.
Awful defensive quarter… although the Wiz were otherworldly hot also…
AC preaching: Don’t switch when you don’t have to switch.
How about don’t switch ever on this team?
Yep, man up and fight through screens.
Make that 8-8…
Wall now 7-7…
Beal with an air ball. A little regression to the mean after the Wizards were at 80% shooting through most of the first quarter.
Well… when they do miss, they air ball it…
Goggles didn’t last long…
For the first time all season, I’m worried about the Cavs getting out of the East. Also, Kyrie’s defense has been particularly horrible the last few games.
Wizards will cool off… not as worried as you
It’s not just tonight. The Cavs have been completely unable to defend for weeks. Plus they have fewer defense-oriented players this season. I like the moves, but there is definitely stuff to worry about.
Well… I’m not going to waste energy worrying…
Real tired seeing Irving jog back after a miss, setting up a 5 on 4
I’m with you, Mike. Especially tough against this Wiz team.
Gonna be a long night if Wall doesn’t miss…
Nice ball movement!
https://twitter.com/cavs/status/845786293288091648
John Wall has not missed…
If Larry Sanders gets on the floor, it’ll be hard to tell him apart from LBJ with the goggles /s
Whoa! Kyrie missed a finish. Man bites dog.
John Wall on a mission…
Kyrie with the nice high handoff to TT…
LBJ! Hammer time…
https://twitter.com/cavs/status/845783604940595200
LeBron starting out with goggles tonight.
It would have been cooler if it was an eyepatch… arrrr!
Hope you guys have fun. Father daughter dance night. Maybe I’ll join you at halftime.
Have fun Nate!
Oh good…

Bogdanovic is also out tonight…
Bron is playing… Shump is not
