Live Thread: Cavs @ Sixers
2017-11-27These aren’t your slightly younger self’s Sixers anymore. Gone is the team that was the bottom feeder of the league, and in their place is a team that sports the probable rookie of the year, Jonathan Simmons, a legit MVP candidate in 23-year-old phenom, Joel Embiid, a knock-down three point gunner in J.J. Redick, and undrafted wunderkind Robert Covington. Throw in Dario Saric a deep bench that features T.J. McConnell shooting 57 % from three, Jerryd Bayless, and a slew of other young talent, and you’ve got the makings of a team that is going to be very good for a very long time.
That isn’t even counting the first overall pick of the draft, Markelle Fultz who hasn’t even played in a game this year.
Tonight will be a tall order for Kevin Love, who will have to bang with Embiid and then chase him out to the three point line. Embiid is making just 28% out there, so token pressure is a good idea. But make no mistake, the Sixers are revved up to play the Cavs. Key to beating them will be matching their work on the boards, where they’re first in the league, and playing solid defense, as the Sixers move the ball really well.
Simmons missed last game with “left elbow soreness,” but is expected to play. J.R. Smith missed the shootaround today due to the death of his cousin, but is also expected to play. In other injury news, Isaiah Thomas is “steps away” from playing again. according to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, and has his sights set on the Christmas day game against the Warriors according to his kids.
Should be a fun one tonight. I’m betting the Cavs look to make a statement, and pull away late with a 109-105 victory.
I think I’d rather see Green in there than Crowder right now…
+10
Next up, the world comes to it’s fiery conclusion. Stay tuned.
Lebron finally drives and makes easy layup….should continue to do that every time
Love looks beaten up and defeated…maybe stick Frye out there more often
giving up 12 o boards in the first half is bad bad bad.
2 stupid TOs from Crowder.
Is Crowder awake?
Crowder…
sixers 0 for 11 from three. Cavs playing sloppy. This will be tied soon.
ESPN will say 76ers missed 3’s while our perimeter D sucks
Had a chance to push this to 15, Wade missed 2 of 3 FTs, we got sloppy on O & lazy on D.
Crowder is hot mess right now
I haven’t read a single comment. All I can think about is how we need a decent center. Kevin Love scoring and getting eaten up! Would you rather have Gasol, Jordan, or Whiteside? Or…..Noel
None of the above…
So you’d rather have Tristan Thompson?!?! TT and Shump are good but we need to make a move for a big man.
You’re overestimating the need for one IMHO…
I agree. This is the deepest team we’ve ever had. I keep forgetting we have Jose, Korver, and Frye.
IT, Wade, Bron, Love, Jordan
Embiid looks frustrated…
Our d has regressed with the first unit back
These are some rough passes…
super sloppy on both ends
Lebron still in shock from getting rest in the first quarter, promptly takes a couple of shumps.
Cmon Crowder that was awful
Getting over confident and sloppy…
Too many easy trips to the rim for the Sixers…
That was keystone cop ugly.
That was actual vintage Wade there.
Vintage Wade block!
LBJ turnaround on point…
LeBron lazy now on D
strange Lebron possessions there…dude really passive
Unfortunate save…
Jeff Green very active… I like it!
Lebron rested for 7 minutes there…thats huge
Wade really saved the day there, along with Green and Crowder
Non-Vintage Wade missing two of the three FTs…

Vintage Wade. Fouled on a three, makes one free throw.
Love the extended Bron rest…
Nice to have a bench. I crapped on Wade a week or two ago and he’s shutting me up. Keep it up old man.
JASON IN REFERENCE TO OUR PT GDS—WHICH IS WHY THE CAVS SHOULD PURSUE A DEFENSIVE POST—NOEL COULD COME CHEAP —–sorry about the caps—that was OLD NOMAD
Green Machine! If Korver, Love, & JR start hitting from deep, this is blowout city. Getting close anyway.
A lot of really beautiful offense and good D.
Wow, This Wade/Green chemistry is really nice. The 2nd unit is getting better each game.
Iman took a Shump with that predictable brick
V. I. N. T. A. G. E. W. A. D. E.
Embiid doing nothing against Channing Frye…let that sink in…no disrespect to Frye but if Embiid is ‘best ever’ he’s gotta win that matchup hands down
Shump…
such a terrible shot…..i know I’ve reached Cedi as a stiff but id rather have him than Shump right now

22-foot step back jumper. Nearly as disgusting as an actual Shump.
Wade to Green is awesome…
agree with you mike —-pretty much a complete qtr —other than the other starting 4 not contributing too much on the “O”
Wade is really playing well. IT, Bron, Wade, Calderon. We are fine with guys running point. Defending it, it is Shump and that is it. Bron, Wade, or JR in spurts.
Wade just surgical against 76ers defense….Sixers getting lot of weird bounces and either making shots or getting the boards…Cavs seem to get any look they want….defense is really solid tonight….just tuned in but is JR playing?
Vintage Wade
just put LeBron in for shump and leave the other 4 out there
LeBron stakes the early advantage… and the second unit fights back to give Cavs good lead at end of one…
Best first quarter D in a long time.
wade is sooooo good with that 2nd unit
No Fred we are not keeping a Shump chart
Really good D by the second unit!
Oh good… Shump is back /s
Frye with more D !!
Flash 3!
Channing with the solid D on Embiid…
No one besides Bron can make a shot.
Great move by Green inside!
Really sloppy on both ends right now…
Surprised Bron missed that dunk… maybe was harder than it looked given the angle…
Looked like Amir was going for the ball, but that was a rough foul…
think LeBron taking him / simmons comparisons personal
mentioned earlier ( have read much about fizdale )—would get him on the next plane TO Cleveland —get “laugenburgerbaskets on the 1st plane OUT of Cleveland
LeBron from deep is money this year
Embiid is so freaking patient going through his post moves.
would let ‘zz” bang a little with embiid—just to rest our starters and give him some experience –4-6 minutes is god enough ——is embiid still on minute restriction—-also if I am love try to get him ( embiid ) in early foul trouble —go cavs !!!
Honestly think we have one of the worst front offices in the entire NBA.
The Nets have the Rockets tonight. Next three after that are at Dallas & a home & home vs the Hawks. They may win a couple. If they only get 1 of those, good news for us.
They are where I thought they would be with Lin & Russell healthy. Wonder if Harris & Dinwiddie can keep it up.
Good one tonight. If we want Bron to roam on D, he has to check Simmons, as Reddick & Covington can shoot it. Perhaps Saric.
I would put Love on Embiid; Calderon on Reddick; Bron on Simmons; Crowder on Saric; JR on Covington.
