Playoff Live Thread: Cavs vs. Raptors, Game 4 (#Extinction?)
2018-05-07“Same as it ever was… same as it ever was…” — The Talking Heads
Have you ever had one of those recurring nightmares that haunts you? You know, the one where no matter how fast you run… how strong you are… how much you try and fight… the boogeyman still gets you in the end… and you wake up screaming? I know the Toronto Raptors (and their fans) have. Only this particular nightmare usually recurs every May for the dinos… and this May is no exception. They’ve tried harder, made themselves stronger, reached the highest seed ever… but still find themselves in a fairly insurmountable 0-3 hole.
The difference this time, is that instead of just images of being chased down by the boogeyman (in the 23 jersey), this nightmare could show flashes of the end of the world as these Raps know it. After all, how many times can you run into the same wall before you have to find a different way around it? Yes, given how they’re presently constituted, Toronto will have some soul searching to do if they are swept away yet again by LeBron James and the Cavaliers. Even if they somehow fight back and claw out a moral victory tonight at the Q… is it really feasible for them to win three more straight against this team (something 129 other squads in that same situation have failed to do — none have succeeded by the way)?
Maybe the hardest thing for these Raptors to swallow, is that they weren’t that far away from being up 2-1 instead of fighting off extinction in Game 4. Despite the blowout in Game 2, the Cavs won the other two games by a combined three points (one in overtime and the other on an instant classic buzzer beater from none other than the Boogeyman himself). This statistic alone should give Dwayne Casey enough ammunition to exhort his troops to give their all tonight to salvage some measure of pride and give their fans back in Toronto a glimmer of hope. On the flip side, Tyronn Lue has already warned his guys about the dangers of being overconfident… wanting to make sure they show up ready to take care of business.
Closeout games are usually the hardest in a series to win. To do so requires the team who has the upper hand to set the tone early and try to make the contest moot by halftime. The Cavs have not been great at this routine in these playoffs, regularly coughing up big leads at the worst times. However, their mental edge over these Raptors should prove to be the difference… even if the final score is much closer than it should be.
Prediction: As usual in the playoffs, no score prognistication from me… I’ll just say that LeBron should once again haunt the dreams of the Raptors, and rip out their hearts this final time with an extinction level event.
Catch all the action on TNT starting at 8:30pm EST, and as always chime in below…
Osman for Hoood. Miracles do happen
CEDI IS IN!!!!!!!!
Love got mangled by vanvleet on that drive.
LOL… DeRozan tips in the Hill after the whistle shot…

Nice TO by Lue…. cut the run off.
Clearly a foul on Love by VanVleet before the JV swat…
JR IS SMOKING HOT!!!
Man… LBJ missing a bunny after a great pass by Hill… probably won’t see that the rest of the playoffs.
Swish!
A healthy/aggressive Hill makes a world of difference…
How did Bron miss that?
They can destroy this team by the third if this keeps up.
I don’t imagine they’ll continue to shoot at a 79% clip… but man, when this offense gets going, they’re lethal…
The Pipe is healthy and flowing tonight
It’s really nice to see KLove finally playing with confidence.
Cavs up nine… and LeBron has just two points… impressive
James jumps into a running shot cause he thought he was getting a whistle then none came, before he lands he passes to jr in the corner who drains a three. Can anyone else in the league do that?
Love is channeling Mount Mutombo & JR is on fire!
Cavs up 9.
LeBron versus the raptors is like a universal law of thermodynamics.
Love has found his inner Iblaka the last two games…
JR SWISH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! CAVS ALL ON FIRE!!!!!!
KLove doing on D !!!
Cavs look like they want to end it tonight…
Peak Cavs can play with anyone.
KLOVE BEASTING ON JV!!!
Two first quarter timeouts by Casey!
Great move love to pin v under the basket.
PIPE THREE!!!
Kev with the strong man two! AND THE REJECTION!
What a pass by Bron… wish Love had nailed that corner three…
Raps so worried about shooters everything is open inside. Raps are ready to fold.
Cavs attacking the basket relentlessly
JR with the cut to the basket!!!
HAHAHA…. Great cut Korver… Lowry overplayed the 3. Korver dove to the rim.
All the cutters!
CUTZUS!!
Yup and under LBJ!!!! Cavs dominating paint!!!
King spin cycle!
O looks good. Hill driving & dunking. Love driving & dishing. JR & Korver with wet Js. Everyone has scratched save for Bron.
D could be better. Liked Love’s block early. Had 3 last game.
Avs look pretty sharp offensively so far…nice to see Hill and Love both going to the hoop…Lebron able to take it easy so far…
Layup lines on both sides…
Man that was a great camera angle on that Korver three. Elbow is perfectly in-line with basket!
Hill looks like a man possessed!
Sorry, just joining… was taking my daughter out to practice driving…
Hey!!! You survived!!!! HHAHAH…. Just joking EG I’m sure she’s a good student and you’re a good teacher!
First time… and we didn’t crash!
EXCELLENT!!!
BALL MOVEMENT!!!! KORVER THREE!!!!! All started with KLOVE’s drive!
WOW… Hill locked in early!!!! Both offenses locked in early.
George Hill back looks good
Nice, get Love on Miles to start the game.
No Jonas to start….
Wouldn’t it be lovely if Cedi took all of Hood’s minutes tonight?
That was a ‘Coach of the Year’ loss by ‘Genius’ Brad Stevens.
I still think Philly can take them.
Coach Lue, please keep GHill and/or LeBron on court until outcome decided. No JGreen ball handling please. Thx
Green ball handling > Clarkson ball handling. But your point is well taken.
Happy for Philly. Good for the league, good for everyone. Except Boston :)
Agree hilarious picture….Cavs have to be ready for Raptors physicality and not leave shooters wide open….thought Raps were super cold to begin last game but then started getting hot and thus we blew two double digit leads….also Cavs have to go all out to put this team away, don’t give them any hope, especially in 3rd quarter.
ok looks like the sixers are going to extend this series—-cavs need to close it out tonight ——-this will be my last post AS I NEED TO KEEP MY PERFECT RECORD-( 4-0 )–NOT POSTING DURING THE GAME — INTACT —–COUNTING ON ALL YOU GUYS TO BRING HOME A ‘W” TONIGHT —GO CAVS —‘INBELIEVELAND “——-CATCH YOU GUYS ON THE OTHER SIDE
That picture lol. Where did you find that?
I’m always on the hunt for the funny…
TJ McConnell is the Delly of Philly.
Yep. He is outplaying Simmons
They win game 2 if Brown sticks with him. Simmons’ poor play cost the game 2 (1 point) and his dumb play cost them game 3 (shooting with under 10 sec & the shot clock off and a 1 pt lead).
The Philla-Delly?
LMAO Nice Pete!
Sixers need to attack Jaylen Brown. He’s at five fouls.
Drives me nuts they do not.
Just run P&R with his man every time & force a switch.
That picture is hilarious, EG.
Philly looks like they are force a game 5. Still a ways to go. I wonder what odds I could get on Philly to win the series?
good ones. I’ll be surprised if Philly doesn’t win this one. Never felt like a sweep.
Raps is a different story just because we’re at home. Losing means going on the road again, as opposed to finishing up at home now. Us losing is a much worse situation than Boston losing tonight.
Even if the Raps steal one, there is no way LeBron loses four in a row.
Now, if Boston loses this one, they had better win game 5 or else it gets real interesting.
It’s true that the Cavs will win this. Just saying the downside for us is worse, i.e., instead of staying home, we got to back to Canada on one day rest.
Boston is going to Boston tonight no matter what.
Anything is possible. Philly is the more talented team. But there is a reason no team in NBA history has come back from 0-3 deficit.
