Preseason Live Thread: Cavs @ Celtics (#BraveNewWorld)
2018-10-02O wonder!
How many goodly creatures are there here!
How beauteous mankind is! O brave new world,
That has such people in’t.— William Shakespeare, The Tempest, Act V, Scene I, ll
It’s a Brave New World for the Cleveland Cavaliers… and it starts tonight against the team they survived in the Eastern Conference Finals last year. Well, sort of. Gordon Hayward (who missed all but a few minutes of last season) will be back, as will Daniel Theis and first round draft pick, Robert Williams. The guy who’s still MIA is former Cavalier, Kyrie Irving. The reformed (or at least recalcitrant) Flat-Earther, will be out due to rest… presumably from his apology tour to scientists everywhere. All the rest of the shamrocks who took the Cavs to seven games are still around though, and probably eager to introduce everyone to a new basketball hierarchy in the East.
The Cavs are also trying to discover their new utopia in a future minus a certain kid from Akron. It’s going to take a lot of bold optimism and totalitarian sharing of the ball to make it work, however. A little Soma would probably help get through the inevitable rough patches. Tristan Thompson has apparently already taken his…

So has Kyle Korver…

We’ll see how that all bears out starting tonight. Except, we probably won’t. We should see the beginnings of Ty Lue’s modified starting lineup, chock full of vets including remaining star Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson and George Hill. A minor injury to JR Smith means an opportunity for the re-signed Rodney Hood. The one young gun of the bunch will be Cedi Osman, as he attempts to fill the large shoes left by the former starting small forward. This group probably won’t play huge minutes, however, giving the Cavs’ brass a good look at first round pick, Collin Sexton, as well as new faces like Sam Dekker, Bonzie Colson, Billy Preston, David Nwaba, Isaiah Taylor and more.
The game will be televised on TNT (don’t get used to this), starting at 8pm EST. Locals should also be able to catch it on FSO.
It should be a fairly meaningless pre-season tilt for both teams, although you never know when Canadian Dynamite might blow up on a Morris twin. My recommendation is to pop some Soma, relax and enjoy the start of this Brave New World for the Cavs.
Oh, and don’t forget to chime in euphorically below…
Well… that was fun!
not watching game but from your blobs —SO FAR –SO GOOD —–LOOKED AT BOX SCORE—-SEXTON WITH ROUGH START ?
He didn’t start, but he looked all right to me. He’s going to take a lot of lessons this year, like most rookies…
Also,as EG noted below, Smart defending him is a tough matchup…Smart can defend, and he’s a league vet…
Capt. Band Aid is BACK!
Very nice first quarter
CLARKSON FOR THREE!!!!!
Gotta admit, this is a more enjoyable 1st quarter than 60% of the games last year…
Well, Ty finally got his wish… guys playing with “pace”
GREAT DRIVE CLARKSON!!!
Man… I forgot just how long Nance Jr.’s arms are…
Jc buckets!
Nice drive Sexton… can’t finish. Needs to use the glass.
Not sure what was worse… that bad Sexton finish or the Smart pull up airball three…
LOL….Marcus freaking Smart…
Clarkson runs offense instead of shooting???
Sam dekkar, why…
Korver got fouled…
I’m sure this is not how the Bahstahn crowd expected the first quarter to unfold…
So glad La Flama Blanca is still on the team…
Who’s having fun? Me. God it’s so great to see guys playing with enthusiasm and no expectations other than playing hard.
Me! I took a double dose of Soma…

NICE CUT SEXTON!!! NICE PASS NANCE!
Sexton rushed that jumper… that’s his shot.
Nice pass Larry MJ
Argh. I’m gonna get sick of Sexton vs floaters and pull ups.
Nice two man game from Sexton and Nance.
I like how that was developing with Sexton about to oop it to Nance…
Nice move and pass from Sexton…
Wow… JC got himself a lot of new tats…
Dekker looks pretty out of control so far…
If you don’t like that, you don’t like Dekker-ball…
Precisely…
Better form from the line from Cedi…
Nice take by Cedi… draws the foul. Nice look ahead pass by Sexton in transition.
Hope Cedi worked on his FT shooting in the off season…
When Hood goes up strong like that from three, I can see why he’s tantalizing…
OFF THE DRIBBLE THREE FOR HOOD!!!!
Sexton in…
Cedi didn’t finish thru contact on that transition take. At least he made the right decision.
If this is what we can expect from Hill… start Sexton and let him develop…
Hood sucks.
I want to see Cedi take over…
I’m afraid he’s going to defer to guys like Hood too much…dude, you’re better than guys like that, take some shots…
Awful transition 3 by Hill IMO.
Sam Dekker sighting…
I agree with you EG…. Hill invisible on the offensive end… a PG that can’t create off the dribble.
Nwaba should be starting over Hood.
No argument from me…
CEDI OFF THE DRIBBLE 3!!!!!!!
Cedi! Steps into a trey.
We’re back. Let’s go Cavs!
Cedi….nice 3!
Hood alternating good and bad plays…
If you don’t like that, you don’t like Rodney Hood…
That about sums it up…
It’s good to have basketball back!
KLOVE AND 1!!! GREAT BALLFAKE AND FINISH!

Love looks pretty confident.
NICE PASS HOOD! CEDI FINISH!
I feel like Hill is invisible…
Nice start!!! Great finish off the glass by Hood!
Nice move Rodney!

Love is in the air!
Guys actually look like they’re playing defense…
Al Horford
Glad to see Hood has worked on his finishing at the rim… /s
Kev with the smooth first bucket…
Nate is going to get all the Rodney Hood he ever wanted tonight.
Here we go…
CWebb… Nate’s favorite…
How was Isaiah ever a GM?
Knicks. And Dolan.
Isaiah Thomas and Kevin McHale braintrust on TNT pregame…
Shoot me now.
The game means nothing, of course, but it would still be hilarious to beat those bums. More likely the Cavs take a good rogering, though.
First preseason games, Cavs Fans!
