The Nuggets are in the Q tonight, and you know what that means: one of Cleveland’s favorite sons is back in town. That’s right, Mark Price returns to town as a Nuggets assistant. With Mark in the ranks, is it any wonder that Denver at 6-1 is one of the biggest early season surprises in the NBA.
The Nuggets are coming off a last second overtime win in Chicago last night, so the Cavs do have the schedule makers on their side in this one. Denver won when no one boxed out Paul Millsap and he put back a Jokic miss to put Denver up 107-106.
Denver is potent for sure with Jokic playing like the NBA’s best center with averages of 22/11/7, and Gary Harris averaging 19. The Nuggets are 13th in offense, and a surprising 4th in defense, so getting going early against them will be key.
For Cleveland, expect J.R. Smith to sit out as well as Kevin Love. Denver’s missing Will Barton, Isaiah Thomas, Jarred Vanderbilt, and (of course) Michael Porter Jr.

Denver’s traps have sort of befuddled our ball handlers
Feel like Denver picked up their d a lot in the second qtr and the Cavs turned it over and struggled to finish and find threes that weren’t nose guarded. Also maybe stopped looking. Jokic has been impressive on staying in front of both Clarkson, hill, and cedi on switches.
How are they giving him that continuation
Cavs are getting whistles like they’re a garbage nba team.

Cedi a bit out of control on forays to the hoop. Likely looking for fouls which haven’t been called. Has had some bad tovs.
Hate to give up on a guy so early, but I have generally not been very impressed with Sexton. He’s a rookie, that works hard, so I expect him to get better, but I kind of wish he did something really well.
I kind of wish he weren’t demonstrably worse than the four guys taken after him.

He isn’t demonstrably worse than knox. Knox has been pretty underwhelming. Shai has been good. Mikal has done too much in limited minutes. We may regret not drafting Miles though. Kid has star potential I think. Was totally wrong about him. Didn’t think he would shoot as well as he has. Expect that to drop off some.
Huh? Knox was a monster in summer league and has since been hurt. I’m not sure what you’re talking about there.
Yeah you are right. Thought he had played more than a couple games.
Also to be fair I am not ready to write off Sexton yet. Feel like he is asked to do a lot more than most of those guys, with the exception of Knox who has only played two games and got injured the third.
Guess Alexander has a similar role. I don’t know. Grasping at straws. Willing to give sexton a season.
So uh. Denver is a lot better than the Cavs.
In the second qtr on my watch. Presumably that single digit lead has ballooned. I expected a blowout. Denver is really good. Beat the warriors I think.
Refs really letting them play tonight. Almost seems like playoff reffing down low. Lots of contact on both sides. Seems like the players have gotten a bit frustrated.

Cedi and Sexton have been absolutely horrible
How the helll are they getting out-hustled by the starters? Terrible energy and I hate Cedi’s body language right now.
just looked at the score.. if they can avoid a blowout, i will be impressed.. seems like they just might be able to do that, which is a step forward..

I am coming around to it. I am sort of obsessed with getting Messina, but I think he will have his pick of jobs come June. Maybe in Minny, maybe LA. Who knows, maybe pop even retires. At which point he will have the coaching job in the most stable, compentent, and maybe best ownership/FO in the league.
