Live Thread: Cavs @ Sixers (#BlackFriday)
2018-11-23For the first Black Friday in a while, the Cleveland Cavaliers find themselves as sellers rather than buyers. Of course, it’s still early days, but this is typically the time of year that teams have at least an inkling of how their season will play out. The Cavs, maybe against their front office wishes… or maybe not, it appears will retain their first round pick next summer, as they seem to be a long shot to notch double digit victories this side of the trade deadline.
As they look to clean house (and their cap) of some of their veteran contracts, they visit one buyer in particular who might be interested in what they’re selling. The Cavs visit the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia tonight to take on the 76ers, a team still in need of some outside shooting. Cleveland might have the perfect fit for the Sixers in experienced gunner, Kyle Korver, or maybe a reliable backup PG in George Hill. Not even the deepest Black Friday discount though would likely be enough for the Cavs to move the disgruntled JR Smith, so he’ll continue to be a DNP (NWT) — not with team.
Even though the Cavs acquitted themselves well against their former leader and his new team on Wednesday night with a narrow 109-105 loss to LBJ and the Lakers, Philly poses a much tougher challenge. Cleveland stayed in the last game via a season low three turnovers, while forcing 15 by L.A. The Sixers won’t be nearly as easy to maintain that ratio against, particularly as their defense is a bit stingier than the Lake show. Success on the road, which has been non-existent this season, will largely rest on the rebounding of Tristan Thompson, the shooting of Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson, the all around play of Cedi Osman and level of defensive intensity the team can bring against a formidable Philly squad.
Prediction: Philadelphia runs up a large bill while cleaning out the Cavs on a Black Friday liquidation… 127-109.
Catch all of the action starting at 7:30pm EST on Fox Sports Ohio, and as always… chime in here.
76ers in bonus. 4 fouls. No points. 8-0 Philly run.
This lineup is super cold offensively… but the refs have just a much to do with that run by the Sixers…
Yeah that Korver call was trash
Now Reddick is hot…
Kyle camnot make a shot.
Cavs effed on calls two possessions in a row
Cavs get screwed on back to back calls…
This lineup bleeding points….
What a bs call on Korver.
How is that a foul on Korver? He stopped and Chandler ran into him…
JC terrible so far.
This is where the lead goes away.
Ugh… Harrison on the floor…
Doing a defensive number on Embiid so far…
Fultz and shamet for zz/kyle?
I want no part of Fultz… would rather have Shamet and second rounder
He’s almost dead money right now.
You can probably dispense of the almost…
We looked pretty good that quarter. Did not use Korver enough. Only 1 TO I believe. Sexton, Cedi, & TT all stood out. Hood good.
The box score lists two… but still pretty good
Amazing what happens when you play with some energy and confidence.
That new starting 5 has 4 try hard guys: Sexton, Cedi, TT, & Nwaba. It helps.
Now that they scrubbed the Henney out of the locker room, they mustve deoderized the plane too
Love it when the Cavs try to make my predictions look foolish… ;)
Cedi! Big three!
AGREED EVIL- ( KORVER FOR SHAMET )–DON’T KNOW IF 76ER’S WOULD GO FOR THAT
Maybe not now… but maybe by the deadline when they’re desperate for shooting…
Solid first quarter!
Shamet better than fultz
No question
THE JEDI!
Sexton on both ends!
Great ball movement too… JC just missed the corner three…
Great trap on Embiid!
I wouldn’t mind getting Shamet in return for Korver…
CEDI CARRYING OVER FROM LAKERS GAME / GOOD TO SEE !
Strong drive by Cedi… draws a foul on Embiid
MAN YOUNG BULL ALWAYS STARTS OUT –“DYNAMITE “–THEN TRAILS OFF SOME—-JUST WONDERING IF HE IS CATCHING OPPONENTS OFF GAURD INITIALLY WITH HOW QUICK HE IS —–TAKES OTHER TEAMS / PLAYERS TIME TO ADJUST TO HIS QUICKNESS
We are so bad a lot of teams do not take us seriously at first. Typical NBA.
Sixers are silly if they don’t use McConnell this game… he’s the kind of PG that gives Cavs trouble…
Philly with 3 3s in a row. Cavs still up 9.
Clarkson in: Danger Will Robinson
if the cavs were a stock that i was short.. i would cover now.. when the worm turns, the worm turns
wow.. young bull 5/6 w 10 in 1st Q with 2 min to go.. breakthru game?
Sexton having a really nice quarter!!
Lol. That offensive foul call was thin.

Such a great move by Sexton… tough call on the offensive foul…
wow.. yoda must be coaching the young jedi warriors.. is this the turning pt? could be.. if they can beat phili in phili with butler.. i will be impressed..
Young Bull fadeaway!
Great ball movement! Great pass Cedi!
When Hood shoots with confidence, it’s a beautiful thing…
His mentality is his biggest weakness. You can see why we do not want to give up on him.
Wow… TT with 6 boards in 6 mins… 4 offensive…
If Sexton can make that pump fake and drive a bigger part of his game, he’ll open up his outside shot…
TT shilutting me up.
Give collin credit. He doesn’t force it if it aint there.
He is getting better. Got a long way to go, but PG usually does not happen fast, unless you are Oscar, Magic, or Isiah.
Fox has made a big jump this year for the Kings.
Sexton is mire of a 2guard in a point guard’s body fron what I’ve seen. Love to pair him wih Sato.
This Philly team will be really good once they learn how to incorporate Butler and trade for some outside shooting…
LNJ should play when Embiid sits.
Nice putback , TT
Confident three from Rodney!
Good start.
Shooting wee so far.
Nice drive, Collin, after a sweet assist to cedi for three
TT does not force after the O board. Cedi 3.
Wow… Simmons hook shot looks a lot better this year…
YOUNG BULL! Driving past Embiid!
We all knew that was getting blocked when tt went up the second time.
Staying hot!
Come on TT.
Gotta finish that Sexton… TT so predictable under the hoop…
Use the glass, yougbull!
Cavs being aggressive early…
Nice shot by Sexton…
Kinda surprised Philly starts Chandler…
They need shooting. He has been starting post Butler since Saric & Covington left.
Good point… I like that Shamet kid too although probably not to start…
Love Nwaba continuing to start. As long as the other team does not have 2 legit bigs (Detroit) we can get away with Hood, Nwaba, & Osman 2-4 with Sexton at PG & TT/LNJ at C.
I think it is also the lineup that combines the most possible keepers on the court together. We should go with that 5 as often as possible until Love gets back. Harrison/Hill, Clarkson, Korver, LNJ + some kind of Dekker/Zizic combo will do for the bench.
Agree on Nwaba
THANKS EVIL—YEAH REALLY WANT TO SEE GREEN BOOK ———-PRESTON / BLOSSOMGAME –“DRAINING THE 3’S “—-5 BETWEEN THEM SO FAR —-PRESTON STARTING TO PLAY WITH MORE CONFIDENCE / HIS SHOT FOR A BIG MAN IS –TRUE !!—–BLOSSOMGAME MAY BE SOME HELP / BONZI STILL PLAYING CONSISTENT

Big weekend with Cavs b2b, OSU v. UM and Browns/Bengals on Sunday…
Also, my son goes to WSU so they have a big game tonight against UW in the Apple Cup…
3 things for this one:
Thing 1: The trade stuff on both sides is the most interesting stuff. Philly needs shooting. We have Korver. Is Fultz in their plans? Is he hurt? Mechanically broken? Mentally broken? Physically broken? Can he be fixed or are we in Humpty Dumpty (Gummy Bear) territory.
Thing 2: the slowdown. We really slowed it down vs LA. Though our personnell suits playing fast, our PG play does not. Hope we play more deliberately until Sexton/Cedi are more comfortable & less erratic creating.
Thing 3: Hope Cedi/Nance remain on an upward trajectory.
