Live Thread: Cavs @ Nets (#NoSleep)
2018-12-03The last time the Cavaliers faced the Brooklyn Nets, Tyronn Lue was still the coach… JR Smith and Kyle Korver were still on the team, and Kevin Love was still playing. In fact, that night in late October was the last time Love was seen in anything other than a walking boot. Flash forward six weeks, and the radical changes to this Cavs team are enough to keep anyone associated with them up nights worrying.
However, after another weekend back-to-back against talented contenders (the Cavs fared much less well against Boston and Toronto after sweeping Philly and Houston), Coach Larry Drew can instead lose sleep scheming how to defeat a more beatable opponent in the Nets. Brooklyn lost top scorer Caris LeVert to a scary looking (but ultimately not horrific) injury three weeks ago, and have been in a 2-9 slide ever since. They’ve lost their last six overall, and also dropped their last six games at home.
The Cavs are on a four game slide of their own, and looking to play a game where they’re not down by 20+ or wind up losing by double digits. They are averaging 92 points on 39.7 percent shooting during the losing streak, and have been held under 100 points 10 times this year. Hopefully, getting a healthy George Hill back in the swing of things, as well as contributions from new addition Alec Burks will begin to reverse that trend.
Besides LeVert, the Nets could also be without ex-Cav avenger, Smokin’ Joe Harris (left abductor injury). The Cavs will still be missing David Nwaba (knee), Sam Dekker (ankle) and possibly Ante Zizic (knee). New two-way recruit, Jalen Jones, is with the team in Brooklyn in case they need a body.
Prediction: I get no sleep until (after) Brooklyn, as I try to stay awake to hopefully recap a squeaker of a Cavs victory… 102-98.
Catch all the action as the Cavs cold kick it live from the Barclays Center starting at 7:30pm EST on FSO. And, as always chime in here with your rhymes… keep your foot on the pedal with never ever false metal… and keep your takes runnin’ hotter than a boiling kettle!
GO CAVS!
Cedi and Alex with two dopey midrangers instead of working the offense.Total “I gotta get mine” shots,I.
Agreed. We can get those shots with under 5 on the clock. Not a good shot early on
Good D by Cedi… maybe the runout bucket will help his confidence…
Real soft call on Cedi. We get no help from the zebras.
Great activity in the passing lane by Burks!
Cedi seems afraid to shoot now…
Game might come down to the best player and TT is the best in this one tonight.
Cedi’s overthinking out there…
No confidence in the J. Nice D on that last poss. Was hoping the layup would get him going.
Young Bull making Napier look like the player LeBron wanted out of college…
Flop,Shbazz
TT is an all star tonight
After 18 & 19 last game.
Cavs keeping the ball alive!
Stupid goaltend from TT. Obligatory dumb TT play for tonight.
That was a terrible continuation call… but also a dumb block by TT…
Dumb play tt,Can’t give em two freebies
Apparently Burks’ nickname in Utah was “Two Minute Bandit”
TT straighr ballin
Hood is invisible on d.Just got posted up by napier
I keep wanting to call him “Ellis” Burks…
Red Sox fan?
No, he played for the Tribe near the end…
Hood watched Dudley drive from the corner all the way to the rim without stepping up,then helped surrender three o boards. Dudley might be the slowest dude in the association.
I like Burks more than Hood. Of course, Rodney looked great early on last year.
Hood with 3 straight garbage defensive possessions.
Dudley shoving dudes in the back… just like at the Y…
Dudley killing us.
Sexton’s GOTTA work on his finishing…
True. But he canmot be totally passive & take mothing but long twos either.
Took off too soon again.
Fantastic run to close the quarter. Cavs with a big bench edge.
I ran across this on liberty ballers. There is a G 4 averaging 15 & 7 & shooting 42% on threes. Anthony Bennett.
BURKS TREY!
Quick run for Jones… but good energy!
Like that Burks J…
Nice comeback!
Nice run from that group to end the quarter. That nice bucket was Burks, not Jones.
Where’s that bandaid pic!?
Lol. Carroll with a hardenesque turding.
Sexton, JC, Burks, Jones, LNJ
BLOSSOMGAME ANOTHER GOOD GAME SO FAR (CHARGE )—SIMON BEEN PLAYING GOOD CONSISTENT BALL LATELY —-ANY CHANCE FOR HIM
Nice bucket Jones!
You must be ahead of me.
Big break on a very dumb foul by davis
Jones in the game. Got jukked?
Larry gotta make that bunny.
Use the glass. That just ticks me off.
LNJ could have driven that all the way to the hoop…
3PT line is the difference. Cavs none. Nets at least 4.
Oh good… Dudley’s still around… /s
Coming soon to a ymca near you.
Allen getting away with all sorts of contact off ball
TT ballin again.
Big men who shoot threes annoy me…
D’Angelo seems like a perfect future Cav… /s
Sefton fighting hard against rhoae borderline Allen screens
TT cleaning up the garbage!
We should be going at Russell every time on offense.
I am comforted by the return of G Hill…
Me too. Also Burks>>>>Harrison
Nothing but ball for Hood who got whistled for a pretty gator block.
What the hell was that lob, Dinwiddie?
The Russell heat check was inevitable
At least Sexton went over the screen that time…
Cedi going too fast again.
With Hill & Sexton out there, and RHJ at the 4, he should not be initiating early offense. Against bigger 4s, yes. Without 2 PGs on the floor, sure. Later in the shot clock, OK.
But mot early vs the other team’s best defender. A lesson NOT learned after last game.
There you go…
Gotta go over the screen young bull…
TT taking it to Jared Allen…
Super high arcing three by Russell…
Flop Crabbe
TT seems active…
Man, that Crabbe shot was flat,
Wow,nifty finish Allen
NBA Champion Richard Jefferson hamming it up in the pregame.gotta love it.
YEAH DON’T REMIND US JASON ——WHAT WAS LEBRON’S STAT LINES THOSE GAMES —HE MAY HAVE BEEN PLANNING HIS DEPARTURE/ CAVS DEMISE WAY BACK THEN
FWIW, if the Cavs has swept the Nets last year, we would have owned Sac’s ping pong balls, and had the #2 pick (likely Doncic or Jackson).
Props on the preview & comment fix.
The Nets were pretty bad last year, but had a lot more fellow tankers. Plus, they had no incentive last year. And to be fair, if Lavert is not hurt, they probably have 10-11 wins right now.
Evil, is this the first Cavs win you’ve predicted? I’m concerned…
I think it is…
If they lose tonight it’s your fault for not underestimating them…err….now im confusing myself…
I accept full responsibility… ;)
GOOD JOB EVIL—WHY COULDN’T THE NETS LOSE LIKE THIS LAST YEAR —–HAS ANYONE HEARD HOW LONG NWABA WILL BE OUT ——WOW THAT NETS GAME SEEMS SO LONG AGO —-I AM GOING TO REVERSE YOUR PREDICTION EVIL BROOKLYN WINS BY SAME SCORE
