Live Thread: Cavs @ Lakers (#LeGone)
2019-01-13LeBron James has been missing in action for his new team, the Los Angeles Lakers, for three weeks now. During his 10 game absence, LA has gone just 3-7. Meanwhile, LeBron has been missing from his old team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, for six months now. Since his departure, the Cavs have gone just 8-35. The point being that, without LeBron’s availability… LeBron’s teams tend to struggle.
None of this is news. As Cavs fans, we learned as we vacillated between patience and panic over the previous four seasons, usually during this period of winter doldrums, that the center of a LeBron-centric construct does not hold when the King is gone. Whether from a sabbatical due to injury, boredom or general surliness, any stretch of contests that didn’t feature James turned them into strong candidates for the loss column. Even though he played all 82 games last year, it doesn’t mean he was mentally checked in for that extended January rough patch (aka the Isaiah Thomas experience).
This current stretch is due to a rather painful looking groin injury LeBron suffered mid-way through his annual Christmas Day game with the Warriors. Initially, LBJ was supposed to be out for a couple of weeks, but there was no real rush to hurry him back to the court. He was slated to make his return tonight against his former team… but that didn’t come to pass. The Lakers are still optimistic LeBron will return soon, possibly even later this week.
So, why did I spend so much time talking about LeBron, the injured former face of the Cavs’ franchise who will be only a spectator tonight at the Staples Center? Probably because there’s not much to talk about with the Cavs right now… unless you want to hear about a rash of injuries, a struggling rookie, potential trades and whether or not they can hold and opponent under 140…
Prediction: The King sips wine on his sideline throne as his new subjects rout his old ones, 142-118.
It’s a late one for you Eastern Time Zoners, so stay up for this one only if you’re a glutton for punishment. Tip off is as 9:30pm EST on NBATV and FSO. I’d say enjoy the game… but that’s probably asking a bit too much…
Rodney fouled twice on that attempt, no call.
Seriously, guys?
That was an embarrassing lack of D on that Kuz stuff…
Cedi still bites on too many ball fakes…
Freaking Lance. What a dope.
Tech on Lance… no surprise
Cedi too out of control.. should have taken a dribble
He walked, but he was absolutely fouled and no call.
Yezus. I’d have gotten a tech if I was drew there.
Delly, when he goes up, go into him!
Sure seems like that was a foul on Cedi on that drive…
Lakers too many passes….
Can’t believe KCP is still on this team…
So funny. No one wants him.
Definite future Cav…
WTF is Clarkson doing?
Good timeout. Cavs deep bench is lousy on D. Bring Jalen Jones in for Ziz.
Lakers just going right at Zizic…
What are you doing Ante?
Nice drive by JC…
Ziz should be able to eat up Kuz…
Emphasis on should…
Cavs have to lead the league in pointless long twos.
Man Delly is shooting well so far this year.
Blossomgame shouldn’t be taking that shot…
Clarkson way too full of himself tonight.
Cavs shot 58%… that won’t last… need to continue to attack and force Laker guards into bad decisions…
CEDI HAVING THE “LEBRON ” AFFECT—ALWAYS SEEMS TO PLAY GOOD IN FRONT OF LEBRON
Seems to have the opposite effect on Clarkson…
Better first quarter than expected…
Haven’t seen much of Ball play – he’s definitely faster than I remembered
He really reminds me of Jason Kidd but not as good of a finisher. I really feel like he’s with the wrong team/setup.
Nice passing, Zizic. Good tip-in by blossomgame.
Feel like Clarkson trying to get his own numbers too much against his former team
Good attack that time… nice tip by LeBlossomgame…
JC losing focus…
Clarkson screwed up that pass from Delly.
Ball 41% from the line this year… that’s not going to get it done as a PG…
Delly with a terrific pass but JC fumbled it…
That fact that Brandon Ingram exists just annoys me
He’s so thin, he almost doesn’t…
Hahaha!
Colin has got to stop throwing guys the ball with four seconds on the clock.
Young Bull feeling it!
Wish he’d feel it from three.
He did once so far tonight…
Bad possession…
That Lonzo shot is so ugly…
That’s what I’m talking about Sexton!!! Great kick out for a JC 3
McGee looks totally flatfooted. I think the Lakers got lit last night. GREAT look for Sexton to Clarkson.
Cavs shooting without hesitation tonight
WOW! A Sexton drive and kick to JC for three!
Think ball is gonna be the guy for the Lakers tonight.
I thought it might be Hart…
They’re attacking the Cavs guards for sure
Cavs hitting everything now…
Great passing.
I tell you what. Sexton has a nice jumper.

Young Bull 3!
LOL… Josh Hart lost a bet to Larry Nance Jr. and had to come to the game in a Browns onsie…
Lakers moving it around well on offense – something I’m not used to seeing from a LeBron team when LBJ isn’t in the game
Cedi puttin on a show for the king!
Cedi came to play tonight… maybe he got a pep talk from Bron…
Sleepy Ingram needs to eat a couple of sandwiches…
Sweet reverse, Cedi!
Nice action and J by Cedi
Argh. Sexton doing his best late career Melo impersonation with that iso jack.
Cedi’s attack game is getting better and better.
Young Bull is ice cold…
Much better Cedi drive that time…
To bad you couldn’t get a scalped ticket without lebron in.
The only thing I buy scalped is Jim Thome bobbleheads…
Cavs pushing on missed Laker threes… good habit to get into…
Cedi lob to nowhere…
goin out on a limb for a Cavs win tonight.
Deeep three from Hood…
JaVale turnaround J to start… gonna be a long night…
Cavs in the road blacks…
Hey. All double digit scorers in the starting lineup!
I guess the one positive for the Cavs has been the bench scoring… though take that with the grain of salt that a lot of the scoring has been once the outcome was already mostly decided…
By the way… I typically go to the game each year when the Cavs visit LA, but it was kind of hard to justify the cost this year…
