Live Thread: Cavs vs Grizzlies
2019-12-20I’m pretty bummed to be missing this one. Not only is the guy the Cavs should have drafted (Brandon Clarke) playing for the Grizz, but it’s Whammer bobble head night. That’s tough. At least Senator Ted Cruz won’t be lacing them up for Memphis, as Grayson Allen is expected to miss tonight’s game with an ankle injury. Only Dylan Windler remains out for Cleveland.
It’s been an interesting couple days in the NBA. Was pretty surprised to see the Bucks beat the Lakers convincingly, but Giannis’ three ball ability, and the fact that he took out LeBron puts the Freak squarely in the lead for the MVP race. Some disheartening news from Jersey last night where David Nwaba tore his achilles. As for the Cavs, check out these on-off stats for Porter Junior and Darius Garland.
In December (9 games)
Garland per-36 numbers with/without Kevin Porter Jr.KPJ on: 24.1 points, 4.2 assists, 2.1 turnovers, 60.6 TS%, 26.1% usage, 109 oRTG
KPJ off: 8.6 points, 3.9 assists, 3.4 turnovers, 37.5 TS%, 17% usage, 95.2 oRTG https://t.co/dqdvYibMxY

Memphis will be a fun match-up: Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., our old pal Jae Crowder, our even older pal Jonas Valanciunas, and Brandon Clarke. Clarke is averaging 16/6/1 in just 21 minutes a night while shooting 43% from three (remember when people said he couldn’t shoot) and 67% from the field. For Cleveland, let’s hope Kevin Love can take JJax to the woodshed, and that Ja Morant doesn’t take it as his mission to destroy the Cavs’ young guards. Looking forward to Clarke vs Nance off the bench. I’m betting Cavs’ experience gets the nod, and that Memphis wants to win this tank battle just a little bit less, as Cleveland gets it 111-104… Go Cavs!
Who stood out on the Cavs in this game?
Watching it on replay. 2nd qtr. So far TT doing work. KPJ with some nice physical d and some nice plays in the second. Love with some threes. Second unit moving ball and bodies. Henson is huge as far as rim protect. Saved a few layups and not even halfway thru 2nd.
Clarkson…but I thought several guys played well…Henson was a block mochine, TT was good, I thought Garland was decent…
Clarkson yes. One of the on fire games that happens once every 10-15 games.
Just watched the highlights on YouTube. So Clarkson finished with 33 and a plus-20…are we sure a playoff team wouldn’t like some instant offense for some useful parts? I like Clarkson in a weird way, but could he get us some assets?
If he keeps this up, I think yes
He’s getting traded somewhere for certain…
Pretty certain Sexton doesn’t just have tunnel vision. I think he is a straight up ballhog as an extremely an inefficient volume scorer package.
“OK, we won a game yesterday. If we win today, it’s called “two in a row”. And if we win again tomorrow, it’s called a “winning streak”…”
Waa repeating that quote in my head all day
“It has happened before…”
HEY GREAT JOB GUYS ON THE WIN —JUST GOT HOME FROM SOME FANTASTIC WINE / PASTA ——” LIVING THE DREAM ” !!!!
7 blocks for Henson. Wonder who the last Cav to match that? Nance the elder? Hot Rod Williams?
Nate Thurmond?
Elder had 11 I think…
Nance Sr. had 11 blocks in a game for the Cavs and I was at that game as a little kid (about 3 and a half years old) with my dad.
Nate Thurmond had 12 I think, but not as a Cav (and my mom went on a couple dates with him after caring for his father in a hospital).
So long story short, the best Cavalier rim protectors are directly connected to my family, despite Henson’s stellar night!
Haha!
Totally wrong on my prediction & Memphis being better.
Not sure but looks like KPJ is giving it to the grizzlies bench… Maybe someone in particular…
Ooh. I got the point spread right.
So much winning!
Two in a row!
How many blocks does Henson have? Seems like a ton. Five? Six?
7
Grizz have some talent…nice road win…
It is here.
D’oh! I even knew that…just a brain fart…
… The Cavs are at home.
Ah, how I missed those Crowder bricks…
With his toe on the line…
No one better…
Gritty win if they can hang on here…big get for Sexton there…
Game winning get
Good comeback. Love with clutch triples. Henson blocking shots. Captaining. Sexton even with a nice block.
If that’s not a clear path what is?
Clear path fouls, despite the “improvements” still absolutely ignore the intent of the rule. It’s offensive.
I’m sure Jeff Van Gundy agrees…I just wish that didn’t hurt my arguement…
That’s his spot…
Wow! Tough shot Love!!
Collin ugh.
Kev!
Let’s close this mother out.
Ugh. Kpj
Henson having a real nice game…
Jjax can’t miss
Wow beautiful with 2 man w Clarkson and Henson.
Great job Garland
Cavs bench really competing.
Hey what are the Q-sticks called now? The Rock Sticks?
Henson developing a real presence inside
Memphis is better.
Gtfoh with that flagrant call
Ugh
Grayson Allen is 100% pure douche…
Seems to wear the stench proudly too.
Jones looks super assured in his game. Wasn’t worried about anyone stopping that drive.
Well cavs kind of sleepwalking through this one
Jjax can shoot
Collin can’t.
Kev dialed in.
Cavs can’t buy a call right now.
Darius
Grizz are hot but so are the Cavs
I like that new move from Cedi . The Hesitation – hesitation – hesitation shot.
Love gets a look
Gets a 3
Opposite of crisp passing. What is the opposite of crisp? Soggy?
How do they not pass to love or cedi at all
Yezus. That start sucked.
Delly 7 dimes. Clarkson going all “Captain, my Captain.” That usually does not laat all game, though.
Sexton finally benched. About time. Though I think it did happen once earlier this year.
No Sexton in the second quarter. Interesting.
Nice to have a shot blocker like Henson on the floor.
So glad Crowder is no longer on the Cavs. Most overrated NBA player of the last decade.
And was particularly disappointing when he was with the Cavaliers.
Yikes this is some bad bball
TT hatcheted no call
The force is strong with this one.
Jae is such a loser.
Jesus. That was a terrible call
Quiet in here Nate! GG so far, Go Cavs!
Delly dime.
Jordan Korver for 3 off the screen
Another offensive foul against the grizz
Henson a wall at the rim
Kpthumper!
Kpjumper
Love in the building.

Jesus. Sexton. Stop shooting that 20 foot trash.
Chucky Sexton.
I mean Sexton walked but that offensive foul call was thinnnmn
TT cleans up Sexton’s mess
Cedi finds Darius!
Nice hilo
Ja already sets better screens than Sexton.
Not getting Clarke was dumb. NBA GMs are dumb. Like people stop improving at age 23.
I like the Grizz by eight. Love could get JJJ in fould trouble if he gets a chance to post up.
They’re going off a data model that has changed. Now that everyone that has a chance to get drafted comes out after a year, it no longer means that being younger is a recipe for success like it once did {when freshmen were showing 9ut against upperclassmen}.
