2024-04-14Happy fan appreciation day, Cavs fans. Cleveland wraps up the regular season this afternoon against Charlotte. The Cavs are sitting Mitchell, Garland, Merrill, Caris LeVert, and Dean Wade. No word on the status of Ty Jerome.
The best scenario is Pacers, Cavs, Magic, Knicks win today… The Cavs get the 3 seed vs the Pacers. For Charlotte, well, anyone who was ever good at basketball is not going to be playing today. Enjoy the Cavs playing a team trying to lose. Go Cavs.
Were people mad at the beginning of the game? I was out so I didnt see how people were feeling at the initial sitting of these players.
If people were not angry to start, then I dont understand why we are so angry about this outcome. I get that they had a chance to win before sitting Strus and Okoro but those two have been injured off and on all year. We want them healthy. If they get injured or aggravate an injury in the 4th, we should be upset with that.
As I said below. There’s a difference between sitting guys out and telling your team on the floor to try and lose, which is what they did. Full stop. If you watch the Cavs after the timeout JB took, it’s obvious.
I didn’t watch the game so I didn’t realize that play and body language had such differences after a time-out. I assumed this happened after taking out the last two regulars then we simply had much inferior talent on the court.
Could those backup players have won the game? Truly, this is an honest question.
I didn’t see the game, so I can’t speak to that but that seems hard to prove unless you were in the huddle. Regardless, they did lose on purpose whether they said it or not. Other teams also sat guys and either didn’t care about the outcome (the Mavs, Clips, Celtics, Jazz, Spurs, Dubs) or also lost on purpose (the Bucks).
I wasn’t upset at the start but was at the finish. I expected that the Bucks would win, in which case it wouldn’t matter what the Cavs did. The Bucks losing changed the dynamic.
Let’s not forget the Bucks did the same thing, they just played a tougher opponent and somehow aren’t getting the national flack that the Cavs are.
I’m mostly disappointed to have missed some serious live threading by NOMAD.
Judging by the comments, looks like I missed a significant event.
Negative take: I hate losing on purpose, and I know the athletes do too. Face the opponent you should face. Bring it on and let the chips fall where they may.
Positive take: If Cavs do make it past the 1st round, DWade might get back, and that changes the equation significantly.
I was pretty upset yesterday, but now I’m mostly over it. I think the thing that changed my mind was the point that, although unlikely, the 76ers/Heat might beat the Celtics in the first round, in which case the Cavs would have homecourt should they advance. It’s the playoffs, it could happen.
The NBA is probably ticked off at the Cavs, although the Bucks blatantly tanked too. But it’s funny because the NBA never would have let the Cavs beat the Sixers anyway. Today just kind of proved to me that the league is a joke, so I’m glad the NBA is unhappy.

JB Presser clear that plan was always to play the G league team in the 4th. Strus stayed in the game longer to get the triple double. With CPJ out the bench was a sitting duck having to play extended minutes with no point guard.
Again this is JB the developmental coach prioritizing rewarding the G leaguers with a nice run at the end. A chance for the Mobley brothers to play together.
He mentioned that a bunch of times. This was always the plan – 20-30 minutes for the rotation guys and then sit. We had all our primary ball handlers hurt so without CPJ that end was always gonna be a fucked up mess

Not a big fan of losing this game. I see this as a save JB’s job move at the expense of having any chance to make the ECF. I would have preferred that we take our chances in the first round against Philly for a shot at the ECF. As it stands, we should win the first round (or it’s your ass, JB), then we lose to the Celtics in the second round. No drama there. I don’t even need to watch.
