Live Thread: Cavs versus Bulls

The Cavs finished off their West Coast road trip in style with a Hollyweird sweep. In their first game back to The Q, the boys in wine and gold square off with the division leading Chicago Bulls in their second matchup of the season. Cleveland took the first round in Chicago with an overtime victory thriller on Halloween night. Joakim Noah (ankle) is out, and Kevin Love makes his return to the lineup. Should be a slobberknocker. Go Cavs!
Gotta say, while I sometimes have had problems rooting for JR the person, he certainly makes me forget about Dion these days…

Yeah, Dion Waiters + 1st for JR/Iman/Mozgov doesn’t quite cancel out the Love-Wiggins trade, but it frigging saved the season.
JR can catch and shoot or 1 dribble and shoot so much better than Dion. Smith takes more crazy shots – but Dion took more annoying shots.
AND JR WITH ANOTHER TRANSITION THREE!
I think a trio of Kylie jr and iman is an impressive backcourt provided nobody tries the ISO deibble drive stuff. Catch and shoot opportunities abound for these guys

JR Smith says there’s nothing to do in Cleveland at night. This is helping his game because he’s not staying out all night like he had in NY.

Just a brief spell on offense there, when LeBron went iso on about 5 out of 7 possessions.
I’m not watching the game but if they’re on pace to score 112 they can’t be that sluggish on offense…
Ok, if we had an edit function, I would edit that comment to say: LeBron falling into heavy iso mode. Goes to the bench with four fouls, which could actually help the offense get back into the groove it’s been in most of the night.

OK, I’m now officially back on the bandwagon. Other than the Hawks I don’t think there is a team in the East they would not beat in a seven game series, and including the Hawks, there are no teams in the East the Cavs can’t realistically beat.

Helps that Bulls missing shots from the paint. Love is engaged on defense. Even fouling when necessary and authority.

@ChrisBHaynes: David Blatt said he added some wrinkles defensively and you can see it. Perimeter players are more aggressive knowing help is in the back.
Granted, Bulls are not shooting well, and having Noah out really hurts their rebounding, but Cavs have looked pretty good so far.
A few thoughts.
Mozgov might have been an overpay at 2 1st rounders but all things considered it had to be done
Love desperately needs touches near the paint. He lcan ook great if he even needs to pass
TT needs to figure out how to go to the line when he gets it in deep for a layup or dunk
Lebron looks better but he loves to dribble. A lot
All these points I think the halftime report addressed in a circuitous manner

Agree. But Kenny definitely having a good time with his big video screen. You can tell he just wants to climb in there.
Preach it, Kenny! LeBron is often guilty of the same thing. Second half against the Clippers, first possession, LeBron walks it up, makes the first pass (to JR in an unthreatening position on the wing) with 6 seconds left on the shot clock.
Love the balanced scoring and ball movement! Cavs with 13 assists on 20 buckets. Only KLove with rough shooting night at 1-6, but he’s made all 7 FT and has 8 boards.
Next time Mosgov makes a nice play I’m gonna sing: Ohhhhh no there goes Tokyo, Go Go Mozilla!

WOW! This was maybe their best half in a long time!
I think the D actually got better as the half went along–there were fewer open shots that the Bulls just clanked in the second quarter.

Mozgov affected Rose again on the Bulls’ last two trips. First trip, Rose came off a Gasol screen, didn’t even think of going to the rim because of Mozgov, and missed a baseline J. Second trip, he drove but couldn’t score over/around Mozgov.
He’s definitely been a difference maker tonight
That’s about 5 possessions already in the first half where Mozgov has stymied Rose.
