Live Thread: Cavs @ Bulls
2015-10-27LeBron James lost a grueling six game Finals, with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love both unavailable due to injury. In the following weeks, he sat at a pool with Love and decided it would be best for both of them if he re-signed with the Cavs. He then cringed when J.R. Smith opted out of his contract and came back for slightly less money. He even lobbied for the Cavs to re-sign Tristan Thompson using social media. His lobbying was as passive aggressive as a significant other saying, “sure, you can watch this preseason game because it makes you happy, even though it’s completely pointless.” And, he sat on a banana boat with Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade. The King did all of those things in just four short months and has to be feeling ready for opening night.
After just 48 minutes of preseason action, and one anti-inflammatory back injection, the King returns with his men to play real NBA basketball against the Chicago Bulls in under eight hours. The game tips off at 8:00 PM in the United Center, and can be seen on TNT.
The Bulls will be trotting out Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler, Tony Snell, Nikola Mirotic, and Pau Gasol. Joakim Noah will be their super in shape sixth man, and Mike Dunleavy will warm the bench after having back surgery this offseason. Rose will be wearing a face mask.
The Cavs are starting Mo Williams, J.R. Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love, and Timofey Mozgov. Both Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert will not be available for this game.
Staff predictions:
Ben Werth:Â Cavs 110, Bulls 100. Kevin Love starts his All-Star season by humiliating the Bulls overrated frontline. Chicago already misses Thibs.
Nate Smith:Â Cavs 106, Bulls 102. Bulls try to prove something. Kevin Love proves they can’t defend like they did under Thibs.
EvilGenius:Â Cavs 97, Bulls 91. LeBron’s sore back outlasts D-Rose’s broken face as Cavs start out strong on their quest for a championship.
Mike Schreiner:Â Bulls 101, Cavs 96. Lack of time playing together in the preseason hurts them, but it’s nothing to worry about.
Robert Attenweiler:Â Cavs 92, Bulls 86. The rested and mostly reunited Cavs give Chicago a taste of its own defensive-minded medicine, allowing their offense plenty of time to shake the rust off. And there is definitely rust to be shaken.
David Wood:Â Cavs 95, Bulls 88. Love demands a double team at the elbow, and the Cavs are able to hit their open 3s. Matthew Dellavedova accidentally hits D. Rose in the face and the game gets scrappy.
Stuff to watch for this game:
1. Is Tristan Thompson in basketball shape? He just reported to training camp this past Friday after signing a deal worth $82 million over five years.
2. Will LeBron be on a minutes restriction? It’s never good to get shots in your back.
3. How many times does Love touch the ball in the paint? He had 2.9 elbow touches and 4 post touches a game last season. The prior season in Minnesota he had 11.6 elbow touches and 7.4 post touches a night. The team has said they want him to be more than a perimeter threat this season.
4. Is Chicago going to be an offensive minded team this year? Fred Hoiberg is an offensive minded coach, but it will be interesting to see what the Bulls do if they can’t run their offensive sets against the Cavs. Do they keep trying to or do they resort to playing lockdown defense?
5. Can Tony Snell be the quasi LeBron stopper still? During the regular season last year, Snell slowed James dramatically. James must have mistaken Tony for Kawhi Leonard.
Let us know your predictions for the game below.
Rose already hurt his leg. Go figure.
What the hell was that first shot?
Finally a call. Then a nice feed by mo.
Fouls not being called evenly. Go figure.
TO EASE THE PAIN ALREADY FINISHED A 6 PACK OF GREAT LAKES CHRISTMAS ALE —I KNOW IT IS HALLOWEEN TIME / THAT 1ST QTR WAS A NIGHTMARE–C’MON CAVS !!
Like I suspected Cavs playing preseason like basketball……
Nice head fake from love to draw snell in.
Ninja needs to work on his arc.
James Jones over Andy in the first quarter against the Bulls: Blatt’s first massive brain fart of the year.
Tristan looks really rusty.
that was a little painful at the end
Cavs haven’t been to to the line yet.
Tristan with an 82 million dollar air ball to end the quarter…….
17 points in the first quarter…. Ugh!
Terrible end to the quarter…
I’m too drunk to participate
There’s so many empty seats there tonight. Chicago fans are weak
Thats ok MDN! Keep going at the rim!
Why the hell is jones the pick man and not TT there?
Marv said Delly signed a new contract.
They need to attack the rim. If the outside shots aren’t falling they’ve got to find points elsewhere
Noah and Bulls fans are so annoying. Probably the most annoying player fan combination.
James Jones has to go. Can’t play him. In the penalty.
Not enough Love for my tastes….
Taj knows he got away with one there. See his face when the ref called it on LeBron?
How was that a foul on the Cavs? Gibson was totally over the top…
Plus some dumb fouls.
Cavs havin’ trouble scoring. Fouls raining down on the Cavs.
Cavs couldn’t be colder.
Hating this lineup.
Earn that paycheck!
Earn that paycheck Tristan!*
Bulls getting some calls.
Much Danger Ninja on the floor!
Meanwhile, Detroit is owning Atlanta. Detroit is making the playoffs people! You heard it here first!
BS call.
That was a suspect call…
What was the foul?
Would love it if someone could hit an outside shot…
Lol, Westbrook commercials are always great
I tried kickstart. I did spontaneously develop a dope shirt. I was disappointed.
Did not. Apparently autocorrect doesn’t believe in negatives.
Cavs taking dumb shots
Cavs haven’t scored in a decade.
So the consensus here is: Hey, TT, knock it off!
Tristan with a 82 million dollar hook shot off the rim………… sorry I had to
I like JR’s passing, but TT has never been good in the post.
Jones off the bench ahead of Andy
I hope TT doesn’t feel like he has to go one-on-one to justify his contract.
TT shouldn’t act like his contract. Just do what you did.
Not sure why they’re going to TT for scoring when he hasn’t had much practice….
What is Tristan doing?
Bulls on 8-0 run…
At 8:16 PM, EST, Delly checks in for the first time this season. The NBA Finals will follow
Mo can’t throw up long twos early in the shot clock. That’s dumb.
Boo’s for Delly!!!
Lot of empty seats tonight.
Tristan fell asleep on Mirotic there…
Cavs have gone cold from deep.
Now TT is on Mirotic.
Cavs getting a good feel for the game. So many weapons on the team. Love down low on Mirotic should be a huge advantage for Cavs.
Mozzy already turning away 3 shots at rim. There’s a lot more backdoor baseline movement this yeda.
Love needs to at least put a hand in Mirotic’s face.
Hey if Mirotic wants to.launch 27 footers, ore power to him.
He’s making them so far…
NEED TO CLEAN UP THAT BACK DOOR LOB
Need to get the ball to KLove and make Mirotic work on D….
RJ! Cans a triple.
Love’s hair is weird. With the headband he’s got like a mushroom jewfro thing going on.
Mirotic has really expanded his range…
There you go RJ!
RJ for THREE!!!
Prediction: Bulls will miss Thibs. Corollary: Thibs will be vindicated.
Early rest for the King…
Who needs LBJ for extended minutes when we have Richard Jefferson! (Way better than Miller/Jones/Marion combined.
