Live Thread: Pacers @ Cavs
2015-11-08
Heading into the seventh game of the season, there’s a lot to of reasons for the Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans to be happy with how the 2015-2016 campaign has started. After a 5-1 start, the Cavaliers are currently tied with the Toronto Raptors for the second best record in the Eastern Conference. Even more encouraging is their +10.2 point differential, second only to the Golden State Warriors in the entire NBA. LeBron James looks as explosive as ever. Mo Williams has been tremendous on the offensive end. Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson are both among the top ten in the NBA in rebounds per game. Matthew Dellavedova seems to have taken a major step forward as an offensive player. Richard Jefferson seems like a huge upgrade over Shawn Marion and Mike Miller.
Despite all of those positives, there are still areas that the Cavaliers both can and need to improve upon before they are truly the title contender we all expect them to be. Much of this improvement will simply come when Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert return to action. With J.R. Smith recently missing time due to a bone bruise in his knee as well as quadriceps tendinitis, the Cavaliers have been without three critical rotation players. This has been part of the reason why recent games against the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have been closer than one would expect.
Injuries aren’t the only reason these games have been close though. Like many of the more talented teams in the NBA, the Cavaliers have a habit of coasting at times, particularly against lesser opponents. My wife and I went to Friday night’s game against Philadelphia, and the Cavs’ on/off switch had never been more apparent. Throughout the game, the Cavaliers would build a lead against the Sixers, only to take their foot (feet?) off the pedal the last few minutes of each quarter and let Nerlens Noel and company back into the game. As EvilGenius pointed out in his recap, the Cavaliers were outscored 39-10 over the last two minutes of each quarter combined. While this may not have hurt them against the 76ers, bad habits like this would likely cost the Cavaliers a game against a more dangerous opponent.
The Indiana Pacers could very well be the opponent who takes advantage of the Cavaliers’ complacency. After starting the season 0-3, the Pacers have battled back to .500 after defeating the Miami Heat 90-87 on Friday night. Paul George was absolutely magnificent against the Heat, torching them for 36 points along with 12 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block. Indiana is in the midst of a transformation from the plodding defense-first style that had served them so well in recent years to the kind of up tempo pace-and-space style that is so prevalent in the league today. They’re going to have their fair share of hiccups along the way, but with George, along with Monta Ellis and George Hill, the Pacers are capable of upsetting any team in the league.
Game time is 3:30 EST. Fans can watch on Fox Sports Ohio and listen on WTAM 1100. Tune in and go “All In” with the Cavaliers as they try to earn their sixth victory in a row.
Everybody hustling!!
The Delly-Oop!!!!!!!!!
Delly with the AWESOME defense on the break and the delayed loaded Wombat on the other end!
Ha Ha Delly showing it how its done
That’s how you run the break.
TV63. Just found it on youtube:

The LeBron montage
Thanks!! You da Man!!
Space Stars doing a solid job today…
Delly killing it in +/- again. He is the Cavs’ Dion.
Dion wishes! Delly actually better. (so far) this year
Kevin’s inability to finish is becoming a problem.
Early yet…
Agree think he has been rushing all his shots down low.
He will figure out his timing i think as the season goes on.
Love how Mo and Delly work together on the floor
Yeah been a very nice surprise. They both work well off the ball which helps.
Nice flob for two Delly!
I had to think about that for a second. Lol
Delly with that sweet lay in.
Della-va-flotah!!!
Put em away Mo Gotti!
Mo Gotti finally drains a deep one.
This is about the kind of game I expected today….
Mo Gotti finally got one…
Monta the king of the midrange game.
Monta is eating them alive…
That looked like a clean block, honestly. Love seems to have no spring.
Ugh. I hate hate hate that that call.
Good god, hope Lebron can get his free throw shot going at some point. Gonna leave a lot of points on the floor if he doesn’t.
Cavs just 50% from the foul line today…
LeBron’s shot is broken. Where is Chris Jent
Foul shot you mean? His regular shot has looked decent today…
That looked like an offensive foul on Monta Ellis.
Alright maybe that will get k love going a bit. Great little d to o sequence.
Gross, but we’ll take it. Then a gorgeous end to end play by Love.
Hell of a 2 way sequence for K Love
KLOVE just WOKE THE HELL UP!!!
Nice block by Love and he’s heating up too.
Sadly… games like this are why I picked Monta to be on my fantasy team..
At least Love is getting rebounds tho.
Love can’t buy a bucket today. Mo either.
He has got to finish bunnies like that.
KLove seemingly having trouble holding on to the ball today…
Ugh. Mo. And love the obvious weak points the Pacers are targeting.
Like the fact they tried to post love though, but the double kind of killed it.
Moz getting knocked around way too much for a 7 footer…
Mo ain’t Got it today…
Mo and Love continue to look awful.
Cripes. Lousy first minute.
Well, that lead was short lived…
I don’t know that I’ve ever seen KLove draw a foul down low…I’m actually really confused by this, because it often looks like he’s been fouled…is this a recent development? He seems somewhat reluctant to finish through contact. Does anyone know if this is normal? Was it like this before CLE?
When he’s backing down and he tries to flip it over his shoulder he rarely gets the call.
Monta picking up where he left off…
Mo and KLove are a combined 2-14… yet Cavs still lead by 5 at the half… This team is beastly…
League pass just ran an epic LeBron montage from last season. I’d kind of forgotten how intense he was last Spring. Game winner in Chicago after a night of brick throwing, collapsing from exhaustion vs Atlanta and then his unbelievable play vs the Warriors. I love this team!!!
Aw Man I would have loved to seen that!
TT playing like 82 million bucks today…
You know, a lot of talk on how Delly has improved overall so has TT. He has actually made baskets more than 5 feet out.
For those wondering about Love’s shot. Lloyd wrote an article on Friday in regards to his wt training. He still has to do a lot of weight training as a part of his shoulder rehab. It’s is intense on what he does after games and after. It’s a good read since Cavs have adopted a lot of their new ideas on recovery and management of strength as a preventative measure.

Saw that… very good read!
Thanks for the link. Hopefully as his shoulder fully recovers his shot will come back.
Can’t believe the Pelicans are 0-6. Maybe firing Monty Williams was a bad idea.
People underestimating the value of Tyreke being out… Also, they’ve played a pretty tough schedule in the early going…
But also, firing Monty Williams was dumb.
Agree with that… they clearly had made up their minds to replace him and were probably hoping they didn’t make the playoffs…
They have some critical injury problems.
Davis may be the best player in the league (or top 3) but not sure if it has the same effect when you aren’t the primary ball handler as someone like Harden, Curry, LBJ, etc have on their teams. I think without the surrounding parts they are destined to .500 mediocrity.
Not gonna lie. I’d like to see Klove break out of his shooting slump.
Agreed. Also hoping James figures out his outside shot as well. If both those guys could hit from the outside it would open so much more space in the lane. Also hope Love gets better at finishing over length. He has had pretty good success posting up smaller guys, but he has seemed to have a ton of trouble finishing over length and hyper athletic guys since coming to Cleveland. Maybe if they gave him some more dedicated post up opportunities he might do a bit better. Seems like they have gotten away from posting him in the last 3-4… Read more »
Very encouraging to see that run at the end of the half… driven by defense…
Cavs play with some defensive intensity for the first time this week. They needed this game.
Has AV even been in the game?
Not yet…
Breaking even in the plus/minus, though.
They are really not using him unless absolutely necessary. Want him available for playoffs
Cavs pulling an inverse from Friday… outscoring the Pacers 8-0 to end the quarter…
TT clean up the trash!
Mo with some much better D on Ellis there…
Myles Turner has a crazy hairdo…
LeBron heating up.
Don’t love the long two… but like the result!
They need a replay for this???
Gotta justify the dudes in Secaucus… ;)
Glad they got that clear path correct!
Nice finish, TT!
Clear path!!
TT with a terrific shot on the run!
Cavs already with 12 assists… Delly with half of them…
The bulldozer screen by Jordan Hill was a nice touch.
This has been a better opening half than the last couple of games. Getting good shots – they’re just not falling.
Thanks god, we play in the East. Cavs haven’t looked great this week despite winning 3 and probably 4 games.
Delly Trey bringing us back!
Needed that Delly trey
Monta looked like he walked on that drive…
It was at least a giant euro step, if nothing else
Mo giveth and Mo taketh away.
