Live Thread: Cavs @ Pelicans
2015-12-04The Cavs will look to bend a few beaks tonight as they prepare to take on the Pelicans in the first game of a quick back-to-back weekend road trip at Smoothie King Center (yeah, that’s right… Smoothie King… drink it in). New Orleans hasn’t quite lived up to their lofty expectations, after surprisingly winging their way into the playoffs last season. They come into this one with just a 4-15 record, having lost their last four in a row (sound familiar? *cough* *cough* Wizards…), despite still getting a high level of play from their rising superstar, Anthony Davis (23.5 ppg, 10.7 rpg). Meanwhile, the Cavs are reportedly making a change to their starting lineup to help bolster their defensive efforts from the outset, inserting Matthew Dellavedova for Mo Williams.
After giving up early leads to lesser teams lately, David Blatt is apparently looking to staunch the bleeding of opposing guard penetration, at least until his starting backcourt can return. On that front, the Cavs got some encouraging news with regards to their missing star point guard, as Kyrie Irving progressed to a full court, full-contact five-on-five practice yesterday. According to ESPN, Irving’s presence, along with Iman Shumpert’s, resulted in the Cavs’ “best practice, by far” of the season.
In the best quote of the article, Irving said that he and Shumpert hope to emulate professional wrestlers when they get back in the lineup:
“We understand our presence on the team and what we bring to the team,” Irving said. “When we get back we call ourselves the Hardy Brothers. We’re coming full attack like the Hardy Brothers back in WWF.”
Probable starting lineup for tonight for the Cavs: Matthew Dellavedova, J.R. Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson. And for the Pels: Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans, Alonzo Gee, Anthony Davis and Omer Asik.
One guy who won’t be playing, but made his presence known anyway during warmups, is former Cav (and still Angry Smurf) Kendrick Perkins, who reportedly shouted something at Delly…
Kendrick Perkins visited #Cavs on court. He yelled at Matthew Dellavedova, "You lucky I ain't playing. I'd hit you with a hard-ass screen."

Logic should dictate that the Cavs will be able to handle The Brow and his flock fairly easily, but as we know, nothing seems all that easy for the Cavs these days. New Orleans will likely give the wine & gold all they can handle on their home court, especially with the return of a healthy Tyreke Evans. Hopefully, Delly can help keep him in check.
Prediction: Cavs 114-110.
GO CAVS!
And back to the LeBron on four offense…
Just really ugly basketball
Ugly Ugly basketball
TT. Ugh
TT’s man left him to cover LBJ’s drive, should’ve called for the lob.
Insert Andy in. It helped a little the first half
I’m always surprised they don’t use him more. Friend told me they are just being super careful with him to keep him healthy. Pretty well connected
Gonna start calling him Mo Shoddy. As in Shoddy defense. Norris Cole knew getting to the rack was an eventuality. Also, why aren’t you going under the screen on Norris Cole, MO?
I think we are seeing why he took the minimum the last few days
WOAH… TT with the energy, finally!
Very lucky to get that last bucket… at least TT had one heads up play that quarter…
HAHA… he had two. he got that stop on Brow.
TT with the obvious moving screen.
I think you forgot to fast forward a commercial break
Sorry about that… WatchESPN feed is SLOW….
Mo’s fault for going before the screen was set.
True… forgot to add that. OBviously he should know better.
Another TT screw up. Perfect pkay by JJ. Made up for it though
Why does nobody want to shoot the damn ball?
TT not playing smart…
Delly +2 Mo -14 makes sense to me
Mo getting no help from Tristan though
Tt’s line this game 0/0/82(million usd)
LOL. Getting abused
TT with his best defense of the night on Brow… forced the TO.
Lebron seems fatigued AND frustrated
I’d be ok if they sat him tomorrow
Well, they haven’t played in a couple days… don’t know why he’d be fatigued…
mental?? idk what it is
He’s had some unusual trouble finishing drives the last couple of games… also he’s back to forcing telegraphed drop passes into the paint again…
Bourbon street.
Really bothered by our three point defense past two games
Anderson getting everything. Way too easy
Love playing better defense than TT tonight. TT looks hungover
Went to bourbon street last night, apparently
Hey, atleast JR didn’t go with him!
Cavs on the verge of getting blown out if they’re not gonna close out…
Gordon is engulfed in flames from three…
Uhm.. Not again
Tristan totally lazy with that seal and going after the loose ball. Also, I hate this. Lineup.
He’s outmatched this game so far.
Gotta bring some energy.
Exactly… not much rebounding from him… only 3!!!???
TT has to catch that
Pelicans just can’t miss this quarter… Cavs just keep turning it over
no defense in this quarter, matter a fact this game
Only seen last two quarters, but certainly doesn’t seem like they’re closing out on the NO shooters…
Havent watch the game fully, looked at the stats and just saw they had put 7-10 at the time for Pels in da quarter. Just frustating with the defense these games, I ga look it up to see what the stats say of our defense
I kinda hate it when LBJ tries to force feed the pass into the paint…
HAHA definitely looked like it was clogged with the defensive players sinking into the paint.
WOW… an illegal screen actually called!!!
Ugh LeBron with just some terrible plays tonight.
Just not finishing around the rim on those two missed drives
Way to fight through that, Jr.
Gordon heating up. Love’s missed jumpers starting to hurt. Wanna see some. Bron in the post.
Led to that fastbreak 3 by Gordon for sure.
Love’s jumper just not working tonight at all.
Love playing some tough defense even with a broken jumper
Damn good defense by Mo and Love, Gordon makes ridiculous shot.
Nice offense to get JR an open look, he couldn’t finish.
Great pass Delly.
What a beautiful look… K Love has to go off the backboard and lay that one in!
Thought he did fine. Got hammered.
O gotcha, thought he tried to dunk that.
He did. AC called it said that was right play because he forced asik to foul.
Make sense… thanks for AC’s take… I miss Fred and AC!
Moz playing much better
Mozilla getting some confidence-building touches
He’s doing better… still missed a great pass earlier from LBJ, but that’s the only miscue I recall.
Nice hustle Cavs!!! MOZERATI WITH THE FINISH!
Is it OK I think Delly fouls very smartly?
Maybe not so smart in terms of self-preservation, but smart in the flow of the game. That’s part of his smarts.
He’s a smart player in general, something some people don’t get, or don’t want to get. It shows up in RPM, though.
JR rainbow swish!
SOOOOOO HOT!!!!
Mo Williams trying to save his job as the backup pg suggested the change accordng to someone. If everyone is still healthy I doubt Mo gets minutes. Tough to get 5 guys serious minutes at 2 positions
Nice… KLove drawing the foul in the post.
MOZERATI!!!!! LBJ with the assist!
LBJ schools Gee in the post.
And Gee all over Love next time down. At that pace he’ll foul out on two more possessions.
HAHA… exactly! beat me to it phil!
Tristan with only 9 first half minutes. Seems like less than usual right?
He was struggling there for a minute… hoping he’ll bounce back in the 2nd half.
Kobe with another clunker tonight… I really shouldn’t have picked him on my C:tFL team…
I really think Kobe is taking away on the ball opportunities for Russell.
Cheer up – you can use Kobe to tank, and you can get Curry with the first pick next year. ;)
I already have Curry…
Hard to watch Sage try to toe the line about Kobe…
I mean, I get why she struggled there a little
I love how they’re talking about the Pelicans injuries…
Not sure if you’re talking about ESPN, but at least Jalen’s not there with his corny jokes.
Cavs continue to excel in possessions after time outs
Great final play.
GREAT play to end the half! I really enjoyed that LBJ pass to KLove for the post hook!
That’s at least 3 times this quarter alone!!!
K Love with a nice post up just a minute ago. Jumper still not working.
Feel like LeBron keyed this run with selfish shot selection.
SHould’ve kept going to the KLove mismatch in the post.
He went back to it to end the half at least…
LBJ had one stellar pass to KLove in the post early in the 2nd quarter for an and one. Just went away from it there for a hot second.
Cavs continuing their disturbing trend of hemorrhaging points at the ends of quarters…
Cavs not really playing defense right now…
Played really good defense 1st quarter… inconsistent on that end. I thought Moz did a decent job 1st quarter.
Tyreke with the quick move… get JR his 3rd foul.
LeBron going one on four…
Cavs racking up the fouls…
LeChuck special.
Does it qualify as a heat check since he made one from that same position earlier?
Warmth check?
You’re bringing the jokes tonight, Nate!
AV for Moz substitution is curious, Moz just checked in, then right back out after the Brow injury.
Brow returns from locker room…
AV telegraphed his action too early there. It made it easy for Ryan Anderson to draw that foul.
Way to get the ball inside Delly! Jam Rebel Son!
Beautiful pass Delly, beautiful cut LBJ.
Anderson probably said remember when I was on the Magic and we were all Roided up…
That seemed like a pretty weak T on LBJ…
LeBron with an uncharacteristic shove.
Finally KLove rolls one home…
He had a couple nice post-ups early in the 2nd quarter, jumper not working though.
LBJ!!!! NICE!!!
Uh oh…. Not a good sign for Anthony Davis.
WOW! Deeeep three from LBJ… and then Brow goes down…
WTF?! That looked serious.
Nice pass DELLY!!! MOZ with the finish and more importantly good hands!
At least Moz got that one to go…
