Live Thread: Cavs @ Pacers (#PaceYourself)
2016-02-01The Cavaliers take their seemingly speedier show on the road for a couple of games before returning home for a quick quartet of contests prior to the All Star Break. Tonight’s foe, the Indiana Pacers, generally live up to their fast and furious nickname… clocking in with the seventh best pace of play in the NBA (currently at 99.57 possessions per 48 minutes). So, we’ll see if the Cavs’ pace (or at least the efficiency of their recent more urgent style) will be enough to match the tempo of their hosts.
Posting at least ten fast-break points in their first five games with Tyronn Lue at the helm, the Cavs (34-12) are averaging 13.8 per game, and are in the midst of a four game winning streak. They will also look for a third consecutive game of getting all three of their stars over the 20 point mark (they now sport a 9-1 record when this happens), as LeBron, Kyrie and Kevin continue to share the ball and the scoring load.
The Pacers (25-22), who had been slowed by a six loss in seven game slump in mid-January, have revved things up again lately, beating the Hawks and the Nuggets in their last two. Paul George hasn’t quite been in gear as much as he was earlier in the season, but Monta Ellis and rookie Myles Turner have helped keep the motor running. The Pacers are also still capable of ratcheting up the defense with Frank Vogel calling the shots, and they’ll undoubtedly be up for this rematch after dropping their first meeting with the Cavs back in November, 101-97.
Probable starting lineup for the Cavs includes: Kyrie Irving, J.R. Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson. And, for the Pacers: Monta Ellis, George Hill, Paul George, Myles Turner and Jordan Hill.
Game time is 7 p.m. (EST), and action can be seen on NBATV and FSO, or heard on 1100 WTAM.
Prediction: Cavs continue to pick up the pace and slow down the Pacers… 112-103.
Let’s pick up the pace ya’ll!
Cavs aren’t the smartest team.
Ellis is gonna go DION on the Cavs…
Too bad it is the good kind
That wasn’t pretty KLOVE!
Not sure why they’d swing it around for LBJ to take a three…
Why is he left wide open??
Love can put the ball on the floor everytime against Hill…
There we go. Smart ball movement
Hate those KI long twos off the dribble….seems to make like 20% of them…
Yeah, he should be taking 3s instead.
How is that a shooting foul?
Hill with a bit of a moving screen.
Also by the way, more reason to blow them out in the 3rd is the starters played ridiculous minutes in the first half.
Cols, did you put up your Groundhog Day lights yet?
LET’S PUT THIS TEAM AWAY EARLY IN THE THIRD —-REDUCE THE STARTERS MINUTES —-SOME MDN TIME IS MUCH NEEDED ( WANTED )
Yep just need a focused, smart 12 minutes and the 4th will be garbage time. Really with the way they have shown the ability to shred Indiana’s d their should be no reason for this to remain too competitive for long. Just need some lockdown d for about 5 minutes and some ball movement on offense for the entire third and the starters will not likely need to play the 4th.
MDN??? Is he still on the team/
The Ninja is stealthy…
What baffles me about this team is why the Big Three seems to take turns on quarters. K Love usually puts up many shots in the first and then rarely gets the ball in position. Kyrie usually is more aggressive in the fourth. And Lebron picks one in the middle. That way we dont fully utilize our potential. We dont keep the other team on their toes. We should be lethal on the offensive end. I remember an article last year by Zach Lowe stating we could be the best offensive team ever. That will not happen if we dont… Read more »
We are on pace for 120 points and a 20 point win. We aren’t going to win 100-0
I was obviously, if you bothered to read, not talking about this game in particular. I am talking about offense in general
Wow, now look who is negative…
Odds are they’re not going to shoot 63% in the second half… clean up the turnovers and they won’t have to…
I think Cols has something here. For whatever reason, by doing this they are scoring way more points
I agree, but I think part of it is the bugaboo of having three players who require high usage to be effective. First qtr looked pretty good all around…
The Big 3 will be in the 20s again.
True, but if our collective basketball IQ was better, and I think is a major problem for this team, we would be able to utilize three great offensiv eplayers better. So far, it has seemed that we just try to just get everyone enough shots. Especially with Love, and that was mostly true with Blatt, they were giving him 6-8 shots early just to get that out of the way. They dont really come in the flow of the game.
Yeah, agree, especially about Love. I’d like to see his touches spread throughout the game…
PG won’t play this poorly in 2nd half. Need to clean up TO’s.
PG isn’t doing so well. I think they are over-using him. He came back fast from a serious injury and they are playing him too many minutes. Its something we have to watch with KI as well. He’ll need to take a break at some point. Sometimes the body needs a couple of weeks of downtime to recover from serious training after injury. There’s just no way around it.
Offense is lethal lately. Which is hilarious considering how terrible it looked in that Chicago game. Like all things in life, repetition is key…
Geez. The negativity around here. Cavs are up 11.
Not negativity… just pointing out that they should be up by more since they were sloppy… reason they are up is that they shot 63%, which odds dictate probably won’t continue…
True, but one would hope the turnovers don’t continue either.
The fan connectedness isn’t so strong to enjoy prosperity…
Better fire us all, oh wait…ban?
Cavs always seem to improve when Delly subs in for Kyrie and plays with the starters.
Delly had some struggles in that first sub in.
He started out good but then got caught up in To’s in his last mins.
That was a dominant first half.
Could have and should have been so much more so…
I wouldn’t call it dominant. They should be up over 20.
If they keep the pace up it will be a 20 point win
But it could be 40…
True it could be. Could be 80. This is fun /s
11 point lead yet someone’s a little cranky….
Ha! Not cranky at all… just pointing out the obvious…
4 starters in double digits already
4 double digit scorers at the half! And JR has 7.
knowing how they does call fouls on JR, im surprise JR didnt get call for the foul, phew. nice steal and dunk by Lebron to end the half.
Yea, if we’re splitting hairs, my immediate reaction was that it was a careless and unnecessary play from JR. Credit for hustling but know the situation.
Good finish to the quarter. As bad as that looked at times, the Cavs outscored the Pacers by 4 in the quarter.
Nice ending!!! LoL at JR with the slide tackle and they get a travel.
Whoops duplicate comment
Late flurry gets Cavs to 60 once again…
Should be so much more though… turnovers and ISO ball probably cost them 10-12 points easy…
Yep, they would have had 70 without their mid quarter lull
With Lebron and Kyrie there’s gonna be iso, it’s too much a part of both of their games; They just can’t let it overwhelm the offense though.
There’s good ISO… like Bron dribbling the ball in and taking a mid-range J, or taking it to the rack… and bad ISO, dribbling around the perimeter and taking a step back contested three…
For sure, I just think that it’s too easy for Lebron and KI to fall back into iso when things bog down. It’s a crutch for them, and it’s going to take time to get away from.
Indiana fans really like our coaching change. I can hear them yelling LUUUUUUUUUEEEEE!
Nice ending!!! LoL at JR with the slide tackle and they get a travel
Brutal steal and finish by LBJ to end the half!
Feel like they could have had 70 if they hadn’t suddenly stopped moving they ball and themselves for half the second quarter. Should be up big
Nice finish, anyway
Smart foul by Delly with one to give…
Tt lucky he did not get called for two moving screens there
Don’t walk it up Bron… (waving my arms)
Lol, yeah, jue really needs to talk tough come halftime, make them realize the longer they let Indiana stay in the game, the more wear and tear they risk.
TT should get extra points for degree of difficulty!!
Yes!! I agree! Amazing
AGREE WITH YOU EVIL / WAS THINKING THE SAME
Delly moving the ball when we need it
wow, tough catch and finish by TT
WOW!! SUPER LOADED WOMBAT!!
Man, Delly always finds an opening
TT with some sick moves!
Paul George will probably not shoot 1-8 in the second half, so Cavs need to build this lead…
CAVS WITH THE UNIQUE ABILITY TO MAKE AN AVG PLAYER ( G.HILL ) LOOK LIKE AN ALL STAR
Cavs might have to go slower pace against these guys.
Why the heck do they insist on making the game so damn hard for themselves some times. Does not make any sense. Sometimes i think this team turns off their bball brains. They have played super smart bball. We have seen it before, why just stop doing what was working? It literally makes zero sense.
Basically because taking bad, lazy shots is easy. Not doing that is work.
It is like they got whacked over their collective head, get collective short term amnesia, and suddenly forget how to run an offense. I just do not understand.
Cavs lucky some of these Pacer open threes aren’t falling…
Lucky bounce for JR that time…
And we’re back to ugly Cavs/Pacer games.
HAD A CHANCE TO PUT THIS TEAM AWAY IN THE 1ST QTR( THOSE 3-4 UGLY POSSESIONS ) GAVE NEW LIFE TO THE PACERS
Cavs letting the Pacers right back into this game with their mistakes and reliance on ISO ball…
Lue needs to lay into them
He Damn Well Better!!!
Well this team seems familiar
LBJ not being efficient right now…
I like the up-pass, but think the Cavs are a sloppier team. So this won’t work against GS.
If Cols were watching he’d be in ecstasy over all this crappy iso ball…
Pretty ugly basketball. Cavs shooting like 61% and only up six.
11 turnovers!!!
This quarter has been ugly ugly ugly
Cavs having a tough time with faster pace & getting many TO’s
Great steal JR! But that pass/Oop was not pretty.
Great steal by JR… then total bonehead lob pass…
How the hell was he going to catch that J.R.?
Don’t like the feel of this game at all right now.
Hate this offense how bout passing the damn ball or getting it to love, wtf
These are some ugly possessions. Love is not getting involved either. Looks like they’re going back to what’s comfortable.
Yeah would not mind Lue taking a Popovich style rage TO just to lay into his players
BEEN STUCK ON 10 ASSISTS FOR AWHILE —–REFOCUS/ RE-ENERGIZE CAVS !!
Interesting Shump getting more burn than JR. Think they are working him in to start?
JR back in now…
Another steal and runout…
These turnovers are killing us.
Imagine what the Warriors would be doing with all those gifts.
Move the ball Kyrie!
LEBRON CAN GET THAT TRANSITION LAY UP ANYTIME HE DESIRES —TIME TO GET SOME SEPARATION—TAKE CARE OF THE BALL–AND KEEP THE BALL MOVING
Reminds me of first San Antonio game, start out strong and regress into bad habits
Irving need to move the ball more, no one else is touching da ball on offense
