Live Thread: Pelicans @ Cavs

Last October, tonight’s game could have been anticipated as a potential passing of the torch affair between the king of his generation, to the heir to the throne. Today, it appears to be anything but. The Cavs honeyLUEn appears to be on the rocks after a half-hearted win over the Pacers, followed by a pair of defeats at the hands of the Hornets and Celtics, both of whom, field vastly inferior and cheaper rosters, than the Cavs tax books boast.
The Pelicans seemed primed to ascend to the next level this season, but they’ve got their own brand of troubles, as their roster construction and coaching choice in Alvin Gentry have failed to accent the fortune they lucked into in hitting the Anthony Davis lottery. Their situation sounds like a tune we heard played on a saxophone years ago outside of The Q.
The Cavs could be without Matthew Dellavedova for a third straight game due to tightness in his hamstring, and hopefully the bench sob can muster something without him. I’m not panicking on the season being lost at all, but every day that passes we get closer to June. Hopefully the team can avoid the third quarter funk that has poisoned the past week. Let’s dish.

Cavs had a chance to put this pitiful team away after halftime. Instead, they let them linger and now they have confidence going into the 4th quarter.

Lebron has played a lot in this quarter.
Ty Lue’s rotations are worse….
The first quarter and third quarter rotations are extremely long. LeBron has played almost the entire first and third in the last four games.
I’d prefer to see guys playing in 4-5 minute stints where they can give max effort in a short timeframe and then rest. When playing these long 8-10 minute stretches, players try to save energy by standing around on defense, and offense.

They are certainly pumped. Expect Westbrook to get ejected if they start losing. He will fight like hell to the bitter end.

I just don’t understand how the Pelicans’ defense can be so bad. I’ve never been a big Gentry guy. Yeah, they have been kiiled by injuries this season. Injuries or not, if you have Asik and Davis on the floor, how is their zero rim protection. Their wings leave them out to dry. General trainwreck. I’m glad the Cavs are taking advantage, but geez, NOLA’s D is awful.
