Live Thread: Lakers @ Cavs

Kobe Bryant and the Lakers are in Cleveland to do battle this evening. Â This is the last time Kobe will be in Quicken Loans Arena.
The Lakers have just 11 wins this season and sit at the bottom of the Western conference. They aren’t hopeless though. Young point guard Jordan Clarkson is putting up 15.2 points a night playing a team high 32.3 minutes a game.
Power Forward Julius Randle has shown the ability to lead fast breaks and has a decent set of post moves. He’s averaging a double-double, 11.2 points and 10 boards a game. D’Angelo Russell is full of promise, but hasn’t been played consistently enough to improve. He’s averaging 3.3 assists a game; however, he turns the ball over 2.4 times a night.
Former Cavalier coach, Byron Scott is the Lakers’ current coach. Scott prefers his veterans to the young guys right now, which is part the of the reason why Kobe Bryant is playing nearly 30 minutes a night, shooting 35% from the floor, and averaging 16.7 shots per game. Kobe leads LA in shots attempted and has the worst field goal percentage (after Ron Artest, but Artest takes just 5.1 attempts per game and he’s Artest) . But hey, KOBE!
This is Cleveland’s last game before the All-Star break. If they could get a win tonight moving the ball, playing sound defense, and trusting each other I would be happy. Going into the All-Star weekend with a two game win streak (even if it is against two bottom tier teams) from playing good game plan based basketball would help everyone, including myself, feel better about the Cavs.
Matthew Dellavedova will miss tonight with a sore hamstring. This is the fifth game he’s missed.
Bonus Story
I work with a Kobe fan. This man told me that Kobe is still an amazing scorer and just as efficient as LeBron. He said those words as I left my job today. I need this Cavs win because I can’t deal with the “Kobe still great” taunts I’ll deal with tomorrow if the Lakers win. And, the Cavs need to shut him down too. This Kobe lover will go off  if Kobe gets 20 points and takes 30 shots to do it.
Finally, take a few minutes to look back at some of Kobe’s highlights. Whether or not you like him or his style of play, you have to appreciate his dedication to winning and the creation of his Black Mamba persona.
Where is evil genius?
Whelp. I guess I should eat some Doritos.
Puppymonkeybaby is stupid and I hate it.
Finally, a Cols post I can believe in… LOL
Windows 10 is nice I think.
They should cancel the 2nd half and have James va Bryant one on one.
This I agree with!!!!!!!
Waiting on word from the Cavs on Kevin Love, who appeared to have tweaked his L shoulder before retreating to the locker room. — McMenamin
Pretty interesting that the Cavs felt better about having Shump play the defacto PG instead of bringing Mo Williams in again. — RealCavsFan
Bring in Cunningham for goodness’ sake…. tweaker Shumpert is not a good look.
Yeah. No was awesome in Nivemebr and since the. Has sucked. He’s either injured or stoned. I’m hoping stoned.
Raptors pose no threat.
The CLE bench has done absolutely nothing so far…. oy.
Don’t need to when the big three has 44
Ughhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
What happened? Did you drink too much?
No Loves shoulder! Hope he’s okay!
Ha. jalen loves our big three.
Whelp. Almost the all star break.
CLE with slightly better defense and worse offense in the 2nd quarter.
In would like it if Kobe got traded to a good team. I’d like to see how much better he’d be on a real team.
It’s a crying shame that one of the all-time greats is spending his last season on an awful team. I’d much rather see him as the third or fourth option on a contender. At least he could bring his competitive edge each night. Tough to compete when the guys around you and are just learning how to play NBA basketball.
Yes. And it’s somewhat his fault I guess. But I wish they’d trade him.
Love injury did not look good. Same shoulder he hurt in the playoffs and he couldn’t move it.
James with a very nice step back there. He should keep working on that.
You do realise he is 31 (thirty one) years old, right? He is what he is. And he is NOT a good 3 point shooter off the dribble.
Cavs look sweet. Kobe looks like he’s about done. I hope we see some vintage Kobe in the 2nd half.
LBJ with an off the dribble 3 and gets lucky.
Shumpert going tweaker…. LBJ with an off the dribble 2 for a brick.
Love that step back from James.
Cavs with a pretty greathalf
For the love of all that’s good… Shumpert needs to stop running offense.
KLOVE going to the locker room with apparent injury.
Cols: “Love’s shoulder looks great.”
Oh man. Love injured.
Hopefully he just shook loose some poop and figured he’d head to the locker room early.
Haha. Yeah. Crrfghyhjhdfbtfbhfdd
Cols, Mr. Sunshine, you let me down!
Love those two possessions. Kyrie-LeBron pick and pop (and then roll), and then a LeBron-Kyrie pick and roll that leads to a Love three. THAT is the type of offense we should be running regularly.
Nice tip by thompsons. Great pass by James.
Irving misses bank shot in the lane… gets offensive rebound. LBJ swings ball to KLOVE for corner 3 (wide open of course)
Nice two man game by LBJ and Kyrie, LBJ rolls to the hoop for a wide open layup.
Nice read by LBJ, gets Irving for an open jumper against poor switching defense.
Yeah. This is too easy.
Just wondering what you guys think: Should the Cavs practice free throws ever?
I would love a game of LeBron and Kobe shooting every time.
That’d be cool. So, meanwhile, there is a game called basketball on television featuring those two players. Also 8 other players.
The poor rims wouldn’t like it…
In a wild turn of events, the Cleveland Cavaliers beat Golden State in the NBA Finals by running its offense through Kevin Love’s outlet passes.
It seems like a good idea!
We’d be up by 30 if Love was shooting a bit better.
Kobe should shoot every time.
KLOVE misses easy jump hook.
KLOVE with a nice rebound and outlet to LBJ for an easy layup.
Cavs are looking sweet. And winning without really trying.
The Lakers this summer drafted, not technically but still, two very promising players in Russel and Randle. Then said to themselves let’s honor Kobe by giving him 30 minutes and 20 shots per game and turn our entire season into a circus. Also, let’s keep Byron Scott as a coach, who has a terrible track record of trusting and developing young players and thinks it is still 1985. And last but not least, let’s sign Ron Artest as a veteran presence to help our promising core mature into levelheaded players.
Solid plan.
That’s why I don’t believe the rumors of Phil going back to LA
Of course not. Phil is a smart guy. He is not going to go to that joke of a franchise when he drafted Porzingis, has Melo and will probably sign another good player this offseason.
Solid plan to keep Kobe and Kobe fans happy while also tanking bigtime.
lakers are tanking again with the excuse of it beings kobes farewell season. i bet scott is gone after this year. and it wouldnt surprise anybody if they got the 1st pick. ben simmons would make this team kinda scary
Ho hum. Up by 11.
Irving bails out offense with his jumper.
Nice pass by Live.
Poor defensive rotation by LBJ, leads to wide open 2 for Bass.
I love that Irving has made it back to looking like himself.
Irving is just so good right now.
One pass and shoot offense… JR with the miss.
James already with 11 points and 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
World Peace should change into his Ron Artest jersey then charge the Laker fans in the stands at the Q!
James needs to step back and take that three.
No he doesn’t. He really doesn’t. Like, never.
Maybe James should keep #6
Really wish Kobe and Shaq could’ve stayed together.
Thanks ESPN for reminding us about LeBron getting 2 titles in Miami.
Would have liked to see how Irving was going to finish that one.
I’m going to miss Bryant.
Irving with the transition push and draws the foul.
So far Irving. James. Look awesome.
Irving takes advantage of non-existent paint defense by the Lakers.
I don’t understand why Kobe isn’t playing. We are watching his one for him.
Send him a text!
It would be great if there was an online vote on that. I would vote to see that.
Oops. Posted in the wrong spot.
Nice pass by Irving, KLOVE can’t convert on the open jumper.
Love love love having Irving back.
Irving is so great.
Don’t forget awesome!!!!!!!
KLOVE gets the call on the move to the hoop.
Irving ISO fadeaway midrange two for a brick… no passing.
Need more shots from Kobe.
From the bench??????
Strong drive to the hoop by Irving bails CLE out of the shot clock running out.
Love looking great.
Kyrie giving his own Kobe tribute by mimicking his ISO style.
Irving is awesome.
Mo and Shumpert completely ignoring the plan on offense really makes me miss Delly.
Me toooooooooooooooo!!!!
Mo doesn’t seem interested in running the offense through Love at the elbow, and it’s bothering Kevin (and Lue) — Joe Vardon
OOOHHH… juicy gossip! it is clear that KLOVE received ONE touch in the post that whole time with the backups.
