Live Thread: Grizzlies @ Cavs

The Cavaliers conclude their four game homestand tonight when the Memphis Grizzlies come to town. While the Grizz sport a very respectable record of 37-25, good for fifth in the Western Conference, they aren’t quite the Grit & Grind squad of the past few seasons. Despite their winning record, the Grizzlies have negative point differential on the season, meaning they are likely not as good as their record indicates. They have lost Marc Gasol for the season, traded away Jeff Green and Courtney Lee, and are without Mike Conley and Chris Andersen tonight. Although they are 7-3 over their last ten games, they’ve lost twice to the dreadful Phoenix Suns during that stretch, including yesterday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Cavaliers have won the first three games of their homestand, including an impressive come-from-behind-turned-blowout win over the Boston Celtics Saturday night. For the most part the team is healthy, and seemingly (hopefully?) focused on earning the top seed in the Eastern Conference and preparing for the playoffs. They’ve also played extremely well against the Grizzlies since LeBron James returned to Cleveland, winning all three of the previous matchups by an average of 22 points.

Why do I have homer blinders on? Because I love this team? If they win or lose they are going to the playoffs a #1 or possibly a #2. That’s great. But you think they should blow things up because of this. Who has the bigger blinders on?

Calling to trade players sounds pretty much exactly like that. Not just tonight either.
It’s not about that. I think Arch is looking at the context of this team. The Cavs are suspect on playing how they are supposed to be. Have you ever seen a championship contender as polarizing as this one? Are you sure you’re satisfied with the mentality of this team? Don’t fool yourself Dave.
Not fooling myself. The Cavs have flaws. Many teams do. But the vitriol I see here against guys not even playing that badly is insane. Where is the Delly/JR hate? They can’t find a bucket. No it has to be Love/Kyrie/James…every time. With Arch leading the stampede.
Was Delly/JR expected to be this good by anyone? Or hell was Delly expected to be a more consistent player for the Cavs than Kevin Love EVER?

One stat worth noting is the Cavs have held the Grizz in check since the first.
They haven’t let them run wild. But 49 points allowed in two quarters is nothing special.

This is actually an interesting game. Instead of playing through real adversity, you mail it in and fight back to get yourself playoff ready. This team is brilliant.

Ever since Lue took over, I honestly see the Cavs are not getting any better in team play or chemistry, which was the sole purpose of firing Blatt. Cavs suck.
I have seen some very encouraging offensive sets the past few games which feature more LBJ and Irving p and rs and generally a lot of off ball movement. This is the good. The bad has been the pretty terrible d and the effort issues.

i don’t hate Love, but I do think something’s wrong. Lost too much weight trying to be a Banana Republic model.
KLove needs a LOT of touches to be effective. He wasn’t an efficient scorer. He put up huge numbers with low percentages for a big man in Minnesota. Too bad he won’t get that touches in this team. Ever.

Was K love this bad at finishing through contact in Minny? Seems like every little bump throws him off. Combined with the fact he can barely get off the ground and his problems catching passes, it seems his game down low has seriously fallen off. Of course the cavs all seem to have grease on their palms tonight and appear to have little idea where they will be on the court which has led to a ton of tos. Well, I’m venting in the moment, But his arms do seem to be getting skinnier and skinnier.
I am a love supporter but his ability to finish in traffic the past two years and simply catch a number of passes has been horrific. Going forward, if he will be this inconsistent with his three pointer we have a problem, because it no longer seems that he can finish at the rim at an acceptable rate for a 4 or 5. I do not count hooks as finishing at the rim. How many times have we seen him get stuffed in the past two years on what would be for most nba players an easy dunk or layup?… Read more »
The consensus answer is to trade them for Celts/Suns/etc and watch them roll to a 3-4 seed next season.
I don’t want to trade him yet, but I think he has to put back on weight. After all he does not seem to be all that quicker or have more elevation due to the weight loss.
