Live Thread: Cavs @ Sixers

These aren’t your slightly younger self’s Sixers anymore. Gone is the team that was the bottom feeder of the league, and in their place is a team that sports the probable rookie of the year, Jonathan Simmons, a legit MVP candidate in 23-year-old phenom, Joel Embiid, a knock-down three point gunner in J.J. Redick, and undrafted wunderkind Robert Covington. Throw in Dario Saric a deep bench that features T.J. McConnell shooting 57 % from three, Jerryd Bayless, and a slew of other young talent, and you’ve got the makings of a team that is going to be very good for a very long time.

That isn’t even counting the first overall pick of the draft, Markelle Fultz who hasn’t even played in a game this year.

Tonight will be a tall order for Kevin Love, who will have to bang with Embiid and then chase him out to the three point line. Embiid is making just 28% out there, so token pressure is a good idea. But make no mistake, the Sixers are revved up to play the Cavs. Key to beating them will be matching their work on the boards, where they’re first in the league, and playing solid defense, as the Sixers move the ball really well.

Simmons missed last game with “left elbow soreness,” but is expected to play. J.R. Smith missed the shootaround today due to the death of his cousin, but is also expected to play. In other injury news, Isaiah Thomas is “steps away” from playing again. according to Joe Vardon of Cleveland.com, and has his sights set on the Christmas day game against the Warriors according to his kids.

Should be a fun one tonight. I’m betting the Cavs look to make a statement, and pull away late with a 109-105 victory.
