Live Thread: Cavs @ Magic
2018-02-06The Cavs travel to Orlando to take on the 16-36 Magic. In what has become an all too common theme this season, the Wine & Gold are trying to bounce back from a huge loss. The Rockets lifted off to a 32 victory point on a nationally broadcast game against them Saturday night. There’s really not a whole lot to say about the team at this point.
The Magic aren’t good. The Cavs should, from a roster comparison stand point, easily beat Orlando. The Magic are young, can’t hold leads, and lack a true superstar. And, their best players are sitting this game out. Nikola Vucevic is out with a hand injury and Aaron Gordan is also out with a hamstring injury. Terrence Ross and Jonathan Isaac will miss the game too.
The Cavs will most likely be without Dwyane Wade who is dealing with an illness. Kevin Love is out too.
I usually do some keys to the game, but with how the Cavs have been playing it would boil down to me saying the Cavs actually need to show some effort in a bunch of different ways. Here’s some things I’ve been thinking about the team though:
1. I’m thankful Kevin Love got injured. No, hear me out. Obviously, it’s never good for a player to get injured. In this case though, his injury has saved the Cavs front office from being able to trade him or put his name in trade talks. Love has been supremely professional and involved this season. He might be the lone bright spot, outside of LeBron Jame when he’s engaged, of the starters. When Love comes back, at least he won’t have the idea in his head that the team doesn’t want him.
2.Tyronn Lue shook things up by moving Jae Crowder to the bench and moving Tristan Thompson into the starting lineup a few games ago. Now Love is out and Crowder is back to starting. Lue needs to shake things up again. Essentially, the bench and LeBron should start. So that would be: D. Wade, Kyle Korver, Jeff Green, Cedi Osman or Channing Frye, and LeBron starting. Of those six guys, LeBron is the only one who has blatantly shown no effort through long stretches this season. Of those six guys, LeBron is the only one with a negative net rating of .8. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt though and let him hang out with the real A-squad of the Cavs.
3.Now that it has been announced that Tyronn Lue’s job isn’t at risk, the only way forward for the Cavs is to make a trade in the coming days before the deadline passes.

4. It’s painfully obvious through 51 games that Lue cannot fix this team through coaching. Usually after making a statement saying the Cavs must make a trade, I would actually suggest some players they should go after, but this time I’m not. I don’t care who they get or send away and neither should they. Sure, there are better players, mainly the bench guys, they shouldn’t get rid of, but the Cavs are trading to change their attitude. And, let’s be honest: it’s essentially a roll of the dice. Their attitude might not be fixable.
5. If you’re reading this, you’re a true Cavs fan. I’m sorry. I really am. After witnessing what they pulled Saturday, I don’t want to watch anything they do right now.
5. Lastly, take this fact in that Jason Lloyd of the Athletic pointed out in his Saturday coverage of the Rockets’ domination. Outside of the Cavs 18-1 streak during November and December the team is 12-19. That’s about the same win percentage as the Brooklyn Nets.
The Cavs will probably drop this game pretty bad. They have shown they play down to competition all season, and that has given them issues. LeBron isn’t playing well enough to bail them out if they do that tonight. Magic, 121-111.
All this team needs is:
A new owner
A new coach
A new GM
A new starting V
Set other than that. 2 lottery picks in a loaded draft.

Lue might want to walk back his flippant comment that the Cavs will make the playoffs…
Lebron is quitting on Cavs and won’t let them trade him and here we are
Yep.
This is comical
Behind the back jump pass to nowhere…
Even folks who don’t watch basketball know that you can get what you want in the paint against the Cavs.
When Korver can’t hit a wide open three… it’s time to call it…
Orlando smelling blood from the Cavs rotting carcass
JR just got smoked.
Nobody drives… just jacking up threes and long twos…
All Star game caliber D…
The ESPN box score is off, so I can’t look up how many points in the paint the Magic have… but I think it’s in the billions…
I checked, there is no number, just says ‘All teh pointz’…
Lebron taking no one to the basket and anyone covering him can’t guard him….unreal
When the Cavs have a hot quarter and shoot 75%, they can get a lead…then it’s back to reality…every game…
nobody rebounds at all
So. Many. Terrible. Long. Two. Pointers.
Rose almost got LeBron decapitated with that oop
Can we trade the Cavs for the Magic?
LBJ to foul out in 3…2…
Rose with abysmal weak side D.
This kind of defensive intensity realy gets me fired up…
Can we trade the Nets pick for Simmons?
https://twitter.com/mcten/status/961055017863180289
Lol. Simmons wide open from three decides to just stroll in and dunk instead.
Simmons down a parted Red Sea for the jam…
Well, I guess Ty Lue will just have to look at the tape tonight…
Vintage Wade… LOL
Lol. Wade with a seeing eye triple.
41 point quarter to the worst team in the East on the second night of their back to back… LOL
Cavs actually might not make the playoffs which is stunning
Honestly … without a significant trade, do we really want to see them playing in the postseason?
Simmons averages 13 and scores 22 in one quarter. That just can’t happen.
We suck. Do NOT trade any of our picks.
41 point quarter for the Magic?! good god even trying on defense would prevent that from happening…unreal
Simmons destroys Cavs with 22 point quarter… not Klay Thompson, not James Harden… not even Evan Fournier… Johnathan freaking Simmons…
Time to trade the Nets pick for him…
Simmons with a, 22 point third. Yeezus.
DRose pullup off balance mid range… always a good decision /s
DWade three
Simmons showing courageous courage attacking this relentless defense…
No answer for Johnathan Simmons… LOL
Big shot by Uncle Jeff
Man. Biyambo fouls hard when he fouls. Cavs could use some of that.
Korver with a really smart play…
3rd quarter sucking. And Gordon & Vucevic & Ross are out for them. 3 starters.
I will say it again, I have real doubts we make the POs.
With Lue out, maybe we win this one.
Larry Drew played IT for 9 minutes of this quarter… so prolly not
We can clip from 3rd to 7th pretty fast
Like by the end of this week fast…
Just caught up. Man has it been awful this quarter.
True to form. Thought maybe I was watching a replay.
Remember that time Isaiah Thomas had a good first quarter?
LeBron looks so disinterested this quarter
Probably because Larry Drew (thanks to the earpiece with DG on the other end instructing him) played IT for most of the quarter…
Someone in Cavs front office must have told AC to tone down his criticism. By now he would be going nuts….or maybe AC has lost his mojo too
Frye with some actual semblance of rim protection…
The Cavs fans in Orlando are booing…
At the Q, I think the Cavs have been booed more in the last month than all the other years of LeBron 1.0 and 2.0 combined.
Cripes. IT turned into a pumpkin again.
Happens every third quarter…
Is Larry Drew coaching… or is it Dan G from the press box? Only explanation for IT playing this long…
Another IT deletion…
IT predictably stuffed…
AC: “The Cavs defense just has to wake up, that’s all”. I’m afraid they are very much woke, AC…

No wonder nobody wants to watch this team…
4 on LBJ…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nVk25ZvTkU
Why are these five for the Cavs still playing?
My 4 yr old daughter is watching the game – giggles whenever Payton’s hair is on the screen.
Nice tip Jae
These are some horrible shots… and worse defense
Wonder if Larry Drew gets Osman in the game? Looks like Frye must be involved in some trade
The obligatory horrible third quarter to let the bad team back into the game…
While Lue is off the court, Cavs should run Cedi.
Here we go….
The 2017 Jae Crowder has not shown his face yet this game. All zeroes across the board except one block
He’s been abjectly horrible tonight…
His 3-balls were wide open too.
JR is really not good defensively anymore…
At least LBJ is hitting his threes now…
