Live Thread: Cavs vs Wizards

After more than a week of no NBA basketball in Cleveland, the new-look Cavaliers return to action. The last time we saw these Cavs play they just finished off a convincing four game win streak which saw them beat the T-Wolves, the Celtics, and the Thunder. The last game against OKC was a pretty thrilling and convincing test for the new team before they were forced to pump the breaks and head into the all-star break. It will be interesting to watch the continued growth of George Hill, Rodney Hood, Jordan Clarkson, and Larry Nance Jr. as they progress toward the playoffs.
The Wizards and Cavs haven’t met since December 17th. The game resulted in a 106-99 Cavs victory. Before General Manager Koby Altman had his official coming out party at the trade deadline, that game likely represented the last time Cleveland was playing good, sustained basketball. Luckily, Washington will have to face off against a whole new squad and a rejuvenated LeBron James. The King and his Knights of the Round Orange Ball will look to continue the success they had going into the break. If James’s play during the All-Star game was any indication and with John Wall still out with injury, they shouldn’t have any trouble maintaining their mojo. Go Cavs!

Got to close out better on those shoters.
Hood only got beat twice. Once off a great screen. The other Beal beat him off the dribble. The last he got backdoored by sat leading to an assist for a Morris 12 footer. The rest he was rotating correctly while no one else covered his man or he was left on an island the break.
I think it’s just lazy lebron
He did get backdoored which indirectly led to a mid-range and he did get beat once and stuck on a good screen. Not his fault entirely but he did make a couple mistakes.

Tons of open looks from the perimeter for the Bullets that quarter…too bad the Cavs don’t have a lengthy, high energy defender who could disrupt some of those shots…
They got those off of long offensive rebounds. The Cavs have to close out better.

turnovers have been pretty ugly and team only shooting 20% from 3….fix defense rotations and team should be good….Wizards are terrible but a lot of their guys are wide open and we are letting them shoot, they started hitting shots in 2nd quarter.
That was a stupidly insane finish by LBJ. Looked like an backwards shovel pass.

Some of that just looked like not knowing where to rotate. That will come with more time.
The waved off 3 was LBJ flashing high when he shouldn’t have. Another when was hill rotated down which left Hood to cover two shooters. He went to contest the open corner (hills man who was left wide open and received the ball while no one made up for Hill’s mistake by rotaing to Hood’s man). Beal hit a tough one. It’s crazy how TT seems to have lost all his athleticism…His foot speed seems so much slower this year and he doesn’t have the spring in his jump anymore…He doesn’t have the ability to lay off a player like Beal because he can’t bother the shot anymore since he’s too slow to closeout…If he’s switched on that he needs to stay closer and make Beal drive and trust the defense will have his back…
