Live Thread: Cavs @ Suns (#SlipSlidinAway)
2018-03-13“Slip slidin’ away… Slip slidin’ away… You know the nearer your destination… The more you’re slip slidin’ away…” — Paul Simon
After going 0-for-LA, the Cavaliers have dropped to 6-6 since shaking up their roster at the trade deadline… which sounds better than it’s been lately with two of those wins coming just before the All Star Break when they surprised the Celtics and Thunder. Since then, it’s been a series of untimely injuries coupled with some awful defense, cold shooting and general lack of preparation on either end of the court (looking at you Ty Lue).
Instead of climbing up out of the pack to challenge the Celtics and Raptors for one of the top seeds in the East, the Cavs have instead found themselves slip slidin’ away down the standings. The most recent embarrassment at the hands of the Lakers dropped Cleveland out of the third spot, a half game behind the surging Indiana Pacers. Even more alarming… they’re just another half game out of being on the road to start the playoffs, and a mere three games up on the eight-seeded Miami Heat.
With 16 games left, there’s not much of a chance the Cavs fall out of the playoff picture altogether (barring a few more injuries anyway), but they’re also running out of time and opportunity to build any semblance of momentum to try and salvage a top four spot.
The semi-good news is that the Cavs take on the second worst team in the NBA tonight as they visit the Phoenix Suns for the fourth stop in their six game road trip. The Suns have lost five in a row, 15 of 16 and 20 of their last 22. Their only two wins have come at Memphis and at home against Dallas. They’ve also had injury issues, fielding only 11 players (missing their top three scorers) on Saturday in a close loss to the Hornets. I say “semi-good” because even if the Cavs prevail (as they should) against the mostly tanking Suns… they’ll further contribute to another team’s bid to stay ahead of their Nets pick.
For the Cavs, there was some fallout from the lost L.A. weekend with respect to the starting lineup…
Ty Lue said before the Suns game that Kyle Korver will replace JR Smith in the starting lineup and that Rodney Hood is out. Whenever Hood's back is well enough to play, he will replace Korver with the starters and Smith will stay coming off the bench.

It’ll be interesting to see if JR and TT… two starters who’ve been demoted, will contribute much off of the bench come playoff time. Or, if they’ll continue to slip slide away down the pine…
Prediction: The Cavs probably start out well, but let the lead slip slide away down the stretch before pulling out a closer-than-it-should-be win against the setting Suns… 122-118.
Very sad… I’m glad we at least referenced him in a pod this season… RIP

Very sad. A long well lived life I hope.
I’m pretty sure half this phoenix squad was picked up from a Local ymca
Just no reason for LBJ to be out there hunting TD
It’s kind of dumb. Yes.
Holland couldn’t convert the triple double assist…
Twice… although I liked the shot
Love the sentiment…

Haven’t seen anything on Nance… so it must be just Ty getting him some rest… which is probably a good idea…
Yup that’s a good idea, food plays really hard when he’s out there
Love the hustle tonight.
i dont see it

Unless Bron is just hunting for the triple double (1 assist shy)… he should be sitting…
Kyle does so Many little things well fantastic corner closeout there.

Nice
Holland with a great block!
HOLLAND BLOCK!
That’s what Uncle Jeff should do… alley oops…
I wanna see more Holland and Zizic from now on…
Hill went straight up that time… swish

Okay… bring on garbage time…
I respect the effort by Holland there…
LBJ has been to the line 15 times already… can we take these refs with us?
Can you imagine how sullen Kyrie would be if he were on this Suns team? It would be like the Dion days…
He’d have been “out with sore knee” since Christmas…
Probably right…and his dad would be ‘leaking’ crap…
He’d be shooting Uncle Drew 2: Electric Boogaloo…
Wow. That was a dunk.
LEWINDMILL!
Kyle shoulda shot it…
There’s a reason Jeff Green is open. He needs needs to cut.
Did Nance hurt himself?
Did Holland come in for Nance?
The Last Dragan Bender…

Wonder if they’ll ever get rid of that “I’ve been shot” reach foul?
Allie must have her track shoes on tonight…
Who knew Ante Zizic would be the most usable piece from the Celtics…
Sometimes the truth can hurt.
LOL… Bonnies take down UCLA for play in game… Curse of the Balls
at this point i do not even care for a good coach just a coach that will only play guys who try

Don’t love that they gave up 34 points to the Suns in the second quarter…
Kind of a quiet night from LNJ…
How does Allie have time to do all these Ganley commercials…
It’s all for you, EG…
Allie double duty… in booth and on sidelines at the half…
Bron looked like he got mugged there…
Ty finally got that only LBJ really passes to Korver… therefore, Korver needs to start…
At least LBJ maximizes KK…no doubt about that…
Why hasn’t Kyle been playing with LeBron all year?
Nate… still worried about KK starting? 16 points in 14 mins…
Something happen with nance?
More of a long term thing. I’d think 25 a night would be his max.
just low iq low effort team

man this team is depressing
Filthy J, kyle
If you’re a Suns season ticket holder and you spend several hours 30+ nights a year watching this team in person, you are hard core…
I’ll speculate that the “Sunettes” or whatever they are called are real lookers.
Jackson totally reached in.four point swing..
I guess you’re allowed to slap a dude’s hand?
That was forearm. Not even close. To the wrist
That spot up three for Clarkson rimmed out… but it still looked a lot better than his off the dribble threes…
Seems like Hill is fading away too much on his shots…
And just not attacking
JR with a dopey heat check
That was a bad shot JR… but nice charge take!
Swish! Bench style. Good to see no Ill effect.
against any half decent team the cavs would be down
JR still can’t play good D… but at least has his hustle on offense…
Imagine how dynamic this Suns team would be with Kyrie!
If the Last Dragan Bender could hit shots, this would be a relatively close game…
I love the Jazz Twitter…
https://twitter.com/SInow/status/973755266595475456
Bron had Korver wide open on the wing…
True story…

Should have been an and one for LBJ there…
seriously up 20 bring back lebron to early idiotic specially rook playing well
JR and Jose totally lost there.
Horrible horrible defense jr and Clarkson r both liabilities
Still zero transition D…
Ugh… why would LBJ pass out from under the hoop to Jeff Green for a low percentage three??
Man… I’m loving Ziz’s offensive footwork!
