Playoff Live Thread: Cavs vs. Pacers, Game 2 (#Whatever…)
2018-04-18
Well, Game 1 is in the rear view… and the hope is for Game 2 that the Cavaliers aren’t too complacent to read past the first word of this year’s team playoff slogan. It certainly seemed like it in their sleepy, sloppy dud of an opener to the post-season. Actually, I have no room to talk, since I missed the game entirely due to some work and family commitments… but the high low lights were painful enough to glance through. If you want a salient and informative breakdown of some of the finer points, make sure you check out David’s Woodshop article if you haven’t yet.
LeBron has been on the record many times about how playoff seeding isn’t important to him, and now the Cavs find themselves essentially in the five seed after losing home court advantage in the series to the Pacers. Whatever you feel like blaming the loss on… be it LeBron’s early passivity, his newer teammates inexperience or inability to gel under the bright lights of the playoffs, Kevin Love either not getting enough shots or not demanding the ball in the post more, poor defensive rotations, awful coaching, general make or miss league variance or even Victor Oladipo’s revenge for Dan Gilbert taking veiled shots at him over the summer… it’s one game, and it’s over. That said, there’s probably never been a second game of the first round more important to win than tonight’s game.
Ty Lue has been teasing changes to his starting lineup since about five minutes after he walked off the court on Sunday… but still no definitive word yet (and now it’s official).

We do know that George Hill is a bit banged up after that hard screen, and that Rodney Hood was excused from practice earlier in the day… here’s why…
Looks like Rodney Hood welcomed twins into the world this morning. https://t.co/VgX2Y3oPsq

All that really matters though is that LeBron comes out aggressively, Kevin Love demands the ball in the post, the Cavaliers’ sharpshooters actually make some shots, and the Cavs play with more intensity and physicality on defense… y’know, like a team that actually does whatever it takes to win… rather than just whatever.
My predictions haven’t been great lately, so I’m just going to say the Cavs should and will win this game, although it won’t be easy, and it will take a better triple double from LeBron than Sunday’s triple double.
Catch all the action starting at 7pm EST on TNT… and as always, chime in here with your thoughts along the way.
GO CAVS!

Calderon faded away on that missed 3. Stick the landing!
BLOCKED BY NANCE!!
I don’t expect this lead to stay double digits with dipo in and bron out
Green is in… hope he can play within himself…
Nice rebound… but then gets rejected. But he should fare better against backups.
Damn, everyone looks good.
Gonna see what the 2nd quarter plan is. Though Hill having 2 could alter things.
I would bring Love back with Nance, Hood, Clarkson, and Jose.
I’d be ok if LBJ only scored 57 points rather than 101. Playoff D is a bit tougher.
I expect Jeff Green now…hope it’s the Treat Jeff Green…
You’d be correct.
McMillian should’ve left Oladipo in. I never get the steadfast refusal to disobey the 2 fouls rule coaches live by. He’s a smart player. They’re not winning unless he’s out there. If he fouls out, he fouls out. It’s like leaving your best pitcher in the pen waiting for a lead to close.
I would have put him in at some point…
Well…we answered the hustle call for one quarter…let’s see if we keep that up

Great look, Rodney… that’s how you ball…great quarter for Lebron, now other guys have to give him a blow…
That Mike Brown stink face…

I cannot be happier… No Green… Calderon and Hood early off the bench…. Korver and JR starting for shooting.
Good start. Indy came back a little and kind of weathered the storm. Up 15 is a decent cushion but I don’t expect that to last when James sits.
Ok, second team. Try not to blow a 15 point lead in the next three minutes.
Great pass, Hood!
LOVE the D by Jose on the Ear Whisperer!
Fantastic 1v1 defense!!!! Bricked that shot!
CALDERON TO HOOD TO LBJ!1!! BEAUTIFUL!!!
How many of our players have to score before webber stops saying it’s only lebron lol. Like 9?
Great pass Rodney! Great cut LBJ!
LOL heat check Calderon…

Jose, JR, Hood, Bron, Nance.
CALDERON EN FUEGO!!!!
Don’t love that quick three by James. Someone was asking about pull-ups. He has never been great on quick ones like that
Nice J Hood.
Hood aggressive with the J…. PURE!!!
Did Lue get a good night’s sleep or something? That timeout wasnt two possessions too late like normal
Pacers in trouble. Nate McMillan just flashed the mike brown stinkface
That looked confident from Hood…
Whelp, without dipo and down like 18 with just under five minutes, Indy has to feel pretty ok they aren’t buried even more. Good start for the cavs. Fully expect Indy to come back when the bench comes in and LBJ goes out.
I should mention I wrote that when they were down 12
Turner is really good at getting away with offensive fouls. And that’s actually a compliment cuz he is so young
Sure looked like LBJ got held there on the turnover…
Yeah wth.
Definitely tripped too!
Getting sloppy.
Keep attacking the rim.
I like the Hood for Korver substitution….. all of a sudden Lue making good calls.
LBJ slowing down due to some Cavs turnovers. Only on pace for 184 points now.
Indy smart going to turner to try to force the cavs hand.
Turner with a nice post up…. KLOVE had good defense there.
Loving the effort on D so far…
BS call on KLOVE….. Refs trying to cover the spread.
EG…why are you like 2 mins in the future pretty consistently?
I live in the future…
Are you streaming? You may be two minutes behind…
Uncalled walk by Turner…
An egregious one, too.
Wow, looked like that would have hurt claderon
Calderon in early…. GOOD SIGN!!!
Bron being aggressive.
Hill has 2 fouls. Jose in.
LOL. Totally an offensive foul on Turner.
A little flat on that J for LBJ.
Good to see Jose in there quickly…
Yup… said the same thing LOL.
Always love Lebron scoring on Lance…
Whew Doggy. This is a fun ride.
AND ONE!
Looked like a clean block on turner to me

JR PUTTING ON A SHOW!!!
That JR bucket was first points not LBJ or LBJ assist.
Settle for that collision contested midranger all day
Listening to Cavs audio feed in the middle of nowhere. Can’t believe I’ve got reception. Whale sharks are incredible. Go Cavs.
Congrats on both!
Awesome, Simmo!
KORVERRRRRR!!!!
This is almost the inverse of Game 1…
Korver wide open trey
Missed that face…
Now that’s a start.
Lebron only needs 9 more this quarter to be on pace for 100…
https://twitter.com/NBA/status/986747624014450689
I think LBJ trying to top game 5 in Detroit.
Wow nice start. LeBron putting the team on his back.
So…lue better actually go 10 deep and give cedi minutes. We will get tired playing this hard. Which is a good thing
LeBron with a statement game. Except I’m not sure who he’s making the statement to. Seems like a middle finger to Lue
Game 3 in Indiana, if necessary.
Easy now…
I REFUSE TO BE RATIONAL! Lue is the best coach ever!
All this so far without Jeff Green…wait till Cavs unleash him…
Well played
Ha! You got me on a legit LOL.
Indiana is salivating.
