Playoff Live Thread: Cavs @ Raptors, Game 2 (Do They Blow It Up?)
2018-05-03The Cavs return to the Air Canada Center for game 2 against the Raptors, and the stakes are actually high, just not for the Wine & Gold. The Raptors have faced their demise against the Cavs in the past two playoffs. Last year Cleveland beat them in just four games after taking six games to do the same in the 2016 playoffs. If the Cavs can take game two tonight, the Raptors will hear the noise that they just cannot get past LeBron James.
It’s hard to see them being able to come back from 0-2 and win at least two games on the road or even win four of the remaining five games. I’m getting ahead of myself though. Game one in the series was hard fought by both teams, the Cavs just weathered the storm better down the stretch after coming back from being down by as many as 13 points. Let’s get into tonight’s game.
Three Things To Watch
1. LeBron had a bad game 1. He said so himself to media. He put up 26 hitting just 12-30 from the floor and 1-8 from deep. He also contributed 13 assists and 11 boards. LeBron is sort of right, even though was a large reason why the team won. He won’t be that inefficient again, and he won’t be as tired as he was in game one after playing an emotional game seven against Indy just a day before. The Raptors may think they covered LeBron well last game, but they are fooling themselves. James was just off.
2. Kyle Korver got 17 shots up in game one. That must continue. He hit five of his 12 3-points shots. J.R. Smith needs to keep shooting too. He dropped five of his six 3s. Now, the Cavs must use that gravity this game. Korver and J.R. took just one shot at the rim between the both of them in game one. Teams don’t expect them to cut into the paint, so they can get quality looks when they do actually go down low. Watch in the video below how J.R. Smith is guarded after setting a screen for George Hill. Both Toronto players are pointing to the 3-line. That’s where they assume he’s going. Smith misses the layup shot, but that shot will be there for both him and Korver all night if they want it.
3. The Cavs started Kyle Korver on OG Anunoby. LeBron James started on Serge Ibaka. Tyronn Lue should consider switching those assignments. OG was able to burn Korver a few times with pure speed. He’s not the best 3-point shooter and he’s young, so you don’t necessarily need to stay out on him. LeBron James should cover OG mainly because it would allow him to drop back into the paint with less worry than when he is on Ibaka. OG wants to drive when he can or cut to the hoop. James will stop him if he does that and if he rains from deep, so be it. Serge Ibaka is a good cover for Korver because he’s the type of guy that’s been popping out to 3-land more frequently. Korver doesn’t need to help down low as often as he did in game one. He’s not as well suited to that as James. Ibaka took just three of his eight shots in the paint, so he’s not trying to bang. One of his inside shots was even a tip-in. Korver may not be the biggest guy, but he can play decent post defense and he will stop a lot of the tip-ins that happened in game one just because he boxes out consistently.
The Cavs have a great chance tonight. They survived a ‘poor’ LeBron game and got the win. James should be looking to dominate and take this series quickly with a bounce back performance, so I’m picking Cavs 121-111.
Love is cutting like a BEAST
WOW what an athletic play by KLOVE!!!
this series would be a sweep if Lue got his head outta his ass
Love with 15 points… is that his playoff high this year?
Has to be…
Defense still sucks, still getting outrebounded.
I don’t know if anyone could actually pitch a full can of Sprite… but I’d put money on LBJ being able to IRL…
ugh, just not smart line ups by Lue
KK is leaving open shooters wide open way too frequently.
Too much doubling… Korver fell asleep there on VanVleet…
6 pt turnaround right there.
Great drive LBJ.
Stupid defensive plan…. KLOVE on JV, and double off of Lowry????????
From the strong side too. Just dump.
yup good point.
If Hubie Ball says “Three ball” one more time…
He’s going to say it at least 70 more times…
Take the over!
Lebron still surprisingly passive.
Travel by Lowry… VanVleet misses the corner three…
Bron gonna have to start guarding Lowry soon…
and both Calderon and Osman have been with the team the whole year, unlike Hood/Clarkson. The lack of chemistry is real.
Lue please run the line up of: Hill, Cedi, Lebron, Love, TT
Can someone get the Cavs defensive net rating with JG in the lineup? The dude scorrs tge ball sometimes but he gets scored on the same way.
This is what Green should do every time…

Clarkson and Hood are literally good for -1 point per minute.
Feelin the LOVE!
Second foul on Lowry…
Has Jeff green at the 5 ever work?
Props to Green for putting pts on the board off the bench. Last game too of course
He puts points but he gets scored a lot too. Poetl got the same 8 points that Green got.
Still don’t understand how Lue doesn’t try Cedi. Hood and Clarkson are totally lost right now and getting beat on drives too much.
Rookie foreigner.
foreigner ain’t gettin no minutes
I wanna know what love is…
I want Lue to show meeeeeeee
Osman and Calderon need to be in instead of Clarkson/Hood. Obvious alternative plan Lue refuses to try.
for real…Clarkson and Hood have been terrible…
+100000

But Lue has to let the refs know or Lowry will continue to do it.
Speaking of terrible, anyone watching the Indians bullpen implode for the 7th consecutive night?
They need some better arms for sure…
Look how far this Lindor HR went tho…

I can ‘t believe how badly they miss bryan frickin shaw. It’s Miller and Allen and then trash fire.
Can’t figure out how Hood averaged 17/ game. He has totally lost it
I ask myself the same.
Green is having a bit of a tough time on defense though…. terrible foul.
Lowry chicken winged his arm and pulled Green into him…Wouldn’t really call that a terrible foul as much as a a cheap trick by Lowry…
Lowry cheap foul. I hate when guys seek fouls and refs reward them. Ugly basketball
Nice drive Green!!!
The Cavs are way too relax on defense.
Put Cedi in for Clarkson
I sense Lebron about to take over the scoring.
Poeltl walked…
can Hubie please not call anymore Cavs’ games? I literally can’t stand the dude.
He’s the worst…
Green loses his man on defense too much.
Hood hasn’t been good, true enough, but Clarkson is aggressively bad. No reason Cedi can’t outperform either of those guys, but he’s foreign and a rookie, so he has no chance.
Hubie just said green is a high percentage three point guy.
Three fouls on Siakam…
“Jeff Green feeling it”… not what I want to hear even though he’s made 2 3s
Nice pass Korver, Green with two in a row!!!
Green misses the easy layup after nice post up.
I’m already using my Jeff Green three blindfold… did he make that one?
In what world are Clarkson and Hood giving you more than Osman?
Unfathomable that Lue sits Cedi for given the horrific play of Hood
If they can get Wright to put it on the floor… he’s loses all effectiveness for the Raps…
Clarkson and hood are looking bad now
Hood has no confidence in his shot.
Hood gets scared after that miss, then Clarkson clanks the open 3.
Yo, Hood and Clarkson, Lebron James and Kyle Korver are on the court. They are better at scoring than you. Like, historically better.
Green DELETED VanVleet!
Hood and Clarkson are a two man wrecking crew for the Raps
Green redeems himself from the same spot!
Clarkson gotta start hitting shots, or he shouldn’t be out there…
Of course Hubie loves VanVleet…
Jeff Green with an ugly miss.
Third lucky bounce…
Green making me three sick for real…
Big time adjustment by Lue to start giving LeBron rest in the 1st
Wow Hood is terrible. As someone noted he has the worst game face and now his game has followed suit. Maybe the stage is too big for him. Then again, if he didn’t flourish in Utah where Joe freaking Ingles looks like an all-star maybe he just isn’t good enough.
Second lucky bounce on a three for the Raps…
I just don’t understand what in the world is Hood thinking when he tries to drive to the basket. He makes it easier for the defender to guard him. And Clarkson keeps jacking up long three’s that just turn into really bad misses.
Bad news: Cavs criminally outrebounded and nowhere near enough shot pressure.
Good news: few TOs, haven’t made a 3 yet, KLOVE and Hill cooking on offense.
Tribe comes back again to tie it at 9 in the 9th against the other Toronto team…
Hood is bad. Handle is so shaky. Love against siakam seems to be an ok matchup.
Hood and Clarkson enter and are immediately bad. Hood misses an open Love and makes a weak drive to the hoop. JC chucks from too deep. Cmon guys !
Cavs actually run an offense when Lebron sits
Lot easier to score on raptors than the pacers
