Live Thread: Cavs vs Pacers (Home Again?)

Well, the Cleveland Cavaliers are 0-5 to start the season. While no one likes a loss, the losses at home against Atlanta and Brooklyn were particularly upsetting. It’s frustrating when your team doesn’t show up for the home crowd. I don’t predict tonight will look any better. The preseason showed us that this Pacers team is like the big brother version of what the Cavs want to be. They do everything Cleveland wants to do, but better. To be fair, the Pacers are led by head coach Nate McMillan who has turned the team into an underdog pick for Eastern Conference Champions. Meanwhile, the Cavs are headed by Tyronn Lue, who has been, uh, disappointing… In addition to the coaching ineptitude, Cleveland’s star power forward, Kevin Love, is still questionable for tonight’s game.
If Love can’t go, expect another pummeling as the Cavs work through their early season issues. Korver had a huge 4th quarter to close out the last loss to Detroit so I expect we should see more of him and maybe some actual sets designed to get him free on the perimeter. The Pacers are sitting at 3-2 with losses to Minnesota and Milwaukee. This Pacers team also hasn’t forgotten about how close they came to knocking out the Cavaliers from last year’s playoffs. If Oladipo and company come out looking to settle old scores, it could get ugly. My guess is Indiana 123, Cavs 108. Nonetheless, as always, Go Cavs!

Cedi needs a defined role! Korver needs a real offensive set! Nance needs an expanded role where he gets touches! Love needs to play within a body moving offense! And good god zizic needs freaking minutes with the starters…he is too good to waste.

I think it’s more than just Cedi that needs a defined role. I feel like the Cavs are trying to do more than they are capable of achieving.

Kobe is a joke. He’s spent his entire life trying to mimic Jordan. At least he’s not sitting with Pierce and Jalen Rose on one of those awful NBA shows. Small blessings.
I respect anyone for not being anything near a Jalen Rose. He’s a professional troll and I don’t get why anyone listens to him. It’s part of the reason I don’t watch or read ESPN.

The starting lineup struggled again. I’d try Clarkson in place of Hood, and Nance in place of TT…. that’s what the Hollinger’s analytics suggest to get a stronger starting lineup out there.
I would do Korver over Clarkson.
Agreed. JC also has more value as a bench scorer. Off the bench his iso play is sometimes a concern, in the starting lineup it would be a liability.
Korver, not Clarkson. Hollinger’s analytics have their limits. Clarkson is a sieve on D but has been playing aginst scrubs. Korver should start and play 15-20 mins. Fill in Clarkson when mixed lineups are haplening for the other team

I think the biggest problem with this organization is that they’ve relied on LeBron for way too long, that they’ve become savior reliant. Even the years LeBron spent in Miami, they were tanking, and working to get him back here. They don’t know how to function without a basketball savior.
I’m hoping that despite the growing pains, they can figure it out. But I think they’ve got a long road ahead.
Defintely. That’s why I think not having Love the last two games may have been a blessing. They were at least competing without him and now when he comes back Im hoping he can just add to the team rather than being a scapegoat or crutch.

Delightful end to the Laker-Spurs game, with Rondo going JR on Lebron. Derozan has been a machine this year.
He’s the mid-range monster, although now that he’s with Pop he may be just a monster.
On my Cavs ‘to do’ list, I had getting rid of Lue & Longabarfi in the top 4 with keeping the pick and developing the young players.
Keeping them both assures we keep the pick, but retards the development of the young guys.
After 30 games we should almost be locked into top 3 and can make a change. Bottom 3 looking like Cavs, Suns, Hawks.

Yeah I agree with Chris K, our margin is slim, and we can’t afford these losing streaks. I’d be shocked if the Cavs win more than 30 games.
1) Nwaba needs more minutes. Take some from Hood (who shot halfway decent tonight).
2) Nance should start most nights with Ante getting reserve minutes. Put in TT if we are getting out toughed or if Ante struggles.
3) Let Frye play 6-8 minutes. At least the other team has to guard him.

I would hope they wouldn’t set another losing record, but I’m starting to think it’s a legit possibility. If that does happen, I expect Lue to get fired, and Larry Drew to coach the remainder of this season.

If the Cavs want to beat the Hawks on Tuesday, they need to put Nwaba and Nance in the starting lineup for Hood and TT.
We could start Korver, Love, Cedi, Nance, and hill. Theyd be undersized against most frontlines but three ball and body movement potential coups be glorious

Yeah Nwaba makes me like defense again. He is one of the few guys on our team who can guard multiple positions because he is so physical. And zizic isnt gonna happen under Lue because it’s only stats, facts, metrics, etc that make his case. He just doesn’t look like a guy who is as effective as he is. ilgauskas also would ride the pine on a Lue team
I’m not this huge Zizic supporter, but this team stinks and I would love to see if Zizic has anything.
He is more many times more dangerous than TT. We’d have space to operate once he hit a couple 12 footers. And he has good hands for low passes which is crucial in a roll man.
I don’t disagree. My only concern with him would be that he may not be as mobile as TT, and may get exposed on switches. But to be fair to ZZ, he never plays, so how would we really know.
Nwaba was pissed when he came out. I liked that.
Cavs got killed by the refs. Indy flopped their way into about a dozen points. That being said, indy was playing at about 80% effort and still shooting 65%

If the past two games have proved anything, it’s that the Cavs can’t start Thompson anymore. Teams just sag so far off him that unless he’s on a ball screen, they’re playing 4 on 5.
They appear to be taking more 3s, so I applaud them for that, everything else is mostly 2 thumbs down, or an empty shoebox clogging up the aisles. It’s probably a damn fire hazard too.
