Live Thread: Cavs @ Bulls
2018-11-10Tonight’s Saturday night match-up is a real doozy. The 1-10 Cavaliers face off against fellow cellar dwellers, the 3-9 Chicago Bulls. Neither one of these teams is good to begin with and both feature some significant injuries. For the Cavs, they are still without All-Star power forward Kevin Love, George Hill, Cedi Osman, and Sam Dekker. They had to sign the former Grizzley Andrew Harrison just to have some more serviceable bodies. For the Bulls, they’ll be without Lauri Markkanen, Kris Dunn, Bobby Portis, and Denzel Valentine.
When you have two teams that are both bad and then subtract some a few of their best players, well, things likely won’t be pretty. I would like to think that the Cavaliers stand a great chance to pick up a win against a team that shouldn’t be putting up too much fight, but who knows. It’s clear this team isn’t the team we hoped it would be over the summer. But hey, against the Bulls, they don’t necessarily need to be that team. I’m going to go with a final score of 121-118 Cavs. It’s about time for another win, eh? As always, Go Cavs!
Recaps up, folks.
Sexton should’ve finished lefty.
SO IF THE CARMELO EXPERIMENT IS OVER IN HOUSTON AND HE GETS WAIVED —-DOES LA-BRON MAKE SURE THE LAKERS SIGN HIM EVEN IF IT COULD BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE TEAM —–THOUGHTS ?
Rewatched Duke KU game again on DVR. Here is an unanswerable, but interesting hypothetical, only tangentially related to bball. Considering his height, likely strength, what we have seen on the court as far as his coordination, sport science analysis of the raw power he generates, modern training regimes, and his insane twitch muscle fiber density, is Zion the most athletic anatomically modern human (essentially 250 thousand years ago to now) to have ever lived? We assume early Homo sapiens (based upon very statistically small sample skeletal populations) had better diets and were taller than most populations post-agricultural invention in different… Read more »
No. As fun as he is to watch, no. He is an anamoly in the world at large, but he is maybe 2/3 as skilled as LeBron. He will lead zero NBA TEAMS to the NBA Finals without legitimate help. This is my opinion of course, but he has neither the bball IQ nor the court vision LeBron had at 18. Next to that, he has nothing approximating the body control Jordan had…and nothing approaching the fast break control Magic had. He will be an all star in the NBA batring injury…but his athleticism is his elite skill, and that… Read more »
Not really my point. Not judging his skill or bball potential or acumen. Talking about raw athleticism.
But to your point. No one was the passer was LBJ was. No one has the body control of Jordan. But no one has ever had some semblance of that stuff and been 275 of pure muscle and is able to move like a PG and jump higher than any NBA player in history. Never seen that much strength and athleticism in an NBA player combined with great ballhandling, good vision, and excellent passing.
He cant jump higher than any nba player in history. Who told you that?
There is no one I am of aware that has been measured higher than a 45 inch vertical. Name someone that had a higher vert than that. Certainly not Lebron. Carter was measured at I believe around 40. Dr J was never measured.
Mj was probably around 40. Nique was somewhere in there, but he was also 6’8″ like LBJ.
Jordan was measured at 46″. So was Jason Richardson and so was Zach Lavine. And spudd Webb if I remember correctly
Alright so a handful of guards who weren’t built like mac trucks and weren’t 275 pounds of solid muscle could jump an inch higher. Lavine is a twig. Jordan and Richardson were about 50-60 pounds lighter, and spud webb is 5’7″. I think my point still stands factoring in height, size, strength, agility, coordination, and coupled with twitch muscle indicators like vertical leap.
6’6″ barefoot with 275 pounds of muscle paired with the speed, first step, agility, and coordination (watch his ballhandling behind the back, crossover, between the legs) of a guard coupled with a vertical that almost no real nba players have surpassed (and barely at that) is an athlete that has never existed in the NBA.
Haha Sorry John you’re right he is a singular athlete. Honestly he reminds me of a shorter wilt in potential. We’ll see I guess. His ball handling wasn’t as impressive to me maybe I’ll have to rewatch
He didn’t show it off as much in that first game. In the army game today, goes to his behind the back move, between the legs both directions quick right after another. He is not Kobe or MJ as far as handles, but then very few wings are. He regularly looks like he pulls off more advanced moves than LBJ, who is a great handler for his size. Rarely see LBJ do behind the back or dribble spins (LBJ spins tend to be after the gather) as fluid as what Zion has shown. Able to link multiple moves together. Watch… Read more »
5:08 to 6:46 shows more advanced handling and some great vision and impressive passing and not just for a big wing. That wrap around is pretty slick, and the one handed pass to the shooter off the dribble and the screen he gets is very fluid. Today versus army he had an LBJ type cross court to an open shooter.
So…I’ve watched that play like 8 times…it’s not as good as you’re saying. And after watching the whole game on replay, he isn’t near as skilled as you’re saying. He is super athletic and can jump out the gym, but he isn’t Lebron. He is not nearly as skilled as Lebron was in high school. Lebron was like freakin white chocolate with Reggie White’s strength and Karl Malone’s body. Zion will probably make some all star games…but unless he changes his diet and also team’s up with real talent, he will have a very weird Demarcus Cousins’ like NBA career.… Read more »
I want Zion/Barrett as much as everyone, but there is no guarantee, especially this year. This team needs to improve. We will be bad enough with the injuries, but we need to stay competitive, improve slowly but surely, and win a few down the stretch.
oh well.. 1 more game closer to zion.. a respectable loss.. 2 more “easy” games.. then the gauntlet
I think the Cavs would be able to win some of these close games, if they had a closer. They’ve benefited having Kyrie and LeBron since 2003 (minus 2010–11), and now they have Rodney Hood.
Although Sexton did take that final possession.
Harrison (our Harrison) is not an nba player. He is awful. Just legit awful. Would love to have their Harrison though. Active. Good hands on d. Not a bad finisher.
He’s a good tank commander.
In other news, the Cavs better be all over Furkan Korkmaz of the 76ers…. he’s from Turkey, can shoot 3s all day, and he’s only 22years old.
NOT ABOUT THE “W”‘S—–ABOUT THE GROWTH—–RECENT PLAY—I CAN SUPPORT THIS TEAM —ALL IN !!
They fought back nicely tonight…. just couldn’t overcome the terrible start.
Hood finished the game strong… seems like he’s building some confidence recently.
Zizic struggled tonight…. so did Nwaba, but he made some plays on the defensive end. Clarkson kind of shot them out of the lead in the 2nd half.
Drew should’ve brought in Sexton far earlier than he did… Drew short circuited Sexton’s rhythm.
Stupid to give sexting that much control of the final if you want to winthis game. But we arent cheering for a team that prioritizes winning right now. If Sefton makes that his confidence and his teammates confidence grows in him.
Very different being a fan of this team right now
Yeah. That last possession was asking too much.
Entertaining game. They haven’t been as painful to watch even though the losses keep adding up.
They certainly seem to be more competitive. Though we haven’t played a legit good team in a while. OKC was without Westbrook.
Fun game, just short armed it.
Feed cut out… Just saw the final p play…. Sexton got what he wanted, gotta finish that…. Love what he did tonight though.
Terrible finish
Entertaining losses….
Jesus. Terrible look. Why not go to the red hot hood?
Chance to win. Bad timeout. Thought sexton could’ve scored there.
Rodney thump
Nance has lost his shot tonight.
That call on sexton was garbage.
Man. Sextn gotta blow right by parker there.
Nice read Sexton!!! Nance draws foul on mismatch.
Hood for threeee!!!! Huge shot!
Pocket pass Sexton!!! Tt friendly bounce!
Hood!
Tt bricks one home
Charge won. Ten techs in the game.
Great defense Nance!!! Huge play!
Man. Rodney was so open. Gotta make that
Nice pass Sexton! C’mon hood hit that!
The decision to pull up for a 16 footer is so confusing
Hood pull up!!!
