Live Thread: Cavs @ Sixers (#BlackFriday)
2018-11-23For the first Black Friday in a while, the Cleveland Cavaliers find themselves as sellers rather than buyers. Of course, it’s still early days, but this is typically the time of year that teams have at least an inkling of how their season will play out. The Cavs, maybe against their front office wishes… or maybe not, it appears will retain their first round pick next summer, as they seem to be a long shot to notch double digit victories this side of the trade deadline.
As they look to clean house (and their cap) of some of their veteran contracts, they visit one buyer in particular who might be interested in what they’re selling. The Cavs visit the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia tonight to take on the 76ers, a team still in need of some outside shooting. Cleveland might have the perfect fit for the Sixers in experienced gunner, Kyle Korver, or maybe a reliable backup PG in George Hill. Not even the deepest Black Friday discount though would likely be enough for the Cavs to move the disgruntled JR Smith, so he’ll continue to be a DNP (NWT) — not with team.
Even though the Cavs acquitted themselves well against their former leader and his new team on Wednesday night with a narrow 109-105 loss to LBJ and the Lakers, Philly poses a much tougher challenge. Cleveland stayed in the last game via a season low three turnovers, while forcing 15 by L.A. The Sixers won’t be nearly as easy to maintain that ratio against, particularly as their defense is a bit stingier than the Lake show. Success on the road, which has been non-existent this season, will largely rest on the rebounding of Tristan Thompson, the shooting of Collin Sexton and Jordan Clarkson, the all around play of Cedi Osman and level of defensive intensity the team can bring against a formidable Philly squad.
Prediction: Philadelphia runs up a large bill while cleaning out the Cavs on a Black Friday liquidation… 127-109.
Catch all of the action starting at 7:30pm EST on Fox Sports Ohio, and as always… chime in here.
Nwaba’s D is fantastic. If Cavs would have started him at the beginning of the year, they’d have two more wins at least.
Hood pull up 3!!!!!!!
Nwaba too far up on Embiid. You can live with him pulling up from three off the dribble. It’s the catch-and-shoot you don’t want to give him.
Yep. And Cedi should have stepped in.
Sexton with another nice pass. This time to TT for a buttery hook.
Great pass Sexton!!!!!!!
Great floater Sexton!!!
Sexton throws up some trash that goes in!
Fourth foul on Reddick! Haha. Great offense.
Really like Drew’s coaching tonight. The quick hook on Clarkson was the best rotation move he’s made all year.
As well as going after Reddick defensively.
Sexton cedi hood and tt carrying the team!
IF THE CAVS CAN COMPETE LIKE THIS ON A NIGHTLY BASIS –THEY WILL KEEP MY INTEREST AND SUPPORT
Sixers 9-20 from three… primary reason this is tied…
And 0 points from Cavs’ bench.
WOW “GOOSE-EGGS ” FOR THE BENCH ——HOPE THAT CHANGES THE 2ND HALF—–PREDICTION—76ER’S TAKE COMMAND THE 3RD QTR—-WIN 113–102 ——–EVIL HAVE YOU BEEN TO ANY WSU GAMES / IF SO DESCRIBE THE ATMOSHERE —HEARD IT GETS CRAZY THERE
Yes, a couple… they are wild. Mainly because the stadium only seats like 35-40K and it’s mostly students… Really loud and really into the game…
Hood has such a good looking shot. The last “nothing but net” three hit at the end of the half was so pure..
Sexton’s decision making is still very poor. But so is out current offensive set. I say set cuz we have one. And we run it for a quarter…then we are predictable. So we iso.
They’re in the game, which is pretty damn surprising.
Good half. Depending on how many vets we keep (Hill, Korver, TT) we could be pretty decent when Love gets back. Better than ATL for sure.
Aside from two js and a bad tueniver, that was a nice half by sexton
Oh… can’t wait for Coach Longo’s halftime analysis… actually I can… switching to start of WSU/UW game until second half starts…
I got Oklahoma west Virginia here
Argh. Why? LeBron James give up shot on that late J. Attack muscala!
Sexton get cut and finish!!!! 14 points already!!!
Nice cut, collin!
14 points from the Young Bull so far
Sexton short armed that nice drive….
Gotta use the glass there.
I wonder if LBJ gave these guys a pep talk when he was in town… Cedi for sure…
Seems like it!
Use the effing glass.
Cavs hitting a bunch of tough shots
Step back hood!!!
When Hill gets back it will help a ton. Harrison gives us zero on offense.
So freaking true
Admire the fight from the starters tonight… if they can get anything from the bench, they should be able to at least keep things close…
Cavs offense is too much “my turn, your turn”
Still mostly good. Our starters are beating theirs. 2nd unit got punked.
Not bad considering zero points from the bench thus far…
This is a really good game.
Nice drive cedi! Tt garbage pickup!
TT with another double double… 10/10
Argh. Why, Collin!?
Nwaba gotta dunk that…
Killing us from deep.
Terrible shot Sexton…. Don’t mind midrange, but that was no pass no rhythm shot… And a bad to boot.
Use the glass Rodney!
Butler trying to bring them back.
No need for that last pullup Collin… and Shamet trey on other end…
Yeah coaches need to get on him for that
Hood with the kiss!!!!
Can’t leave butler to double team simmons 20 feet from the bucket.

What a drive and finish Sexton!!!!
Sixers on fire from three this quarter…
Nice offense with the mismatch hunting.
Three fouls on JJ now…
Smart back down by Nwaba
Great pass collin to nwaba for the fouble clutch!
Starters are back. Clarkson is such a steaming pile of garbage.
Good response by the Cavs…
Great pass Sexton!!! Finish Nwaba!!!
Run Young Bull! NWABA!
Cedi+1 way to go after reddick! Absolutely no foul though.
Hood looks good! Cedi too!!!!! Fantastic shooting!
Embiid’s act is already tired…
Hey Larry they’re in the bonus.
Another terrible call…. all ball by LNJ
Nice fallaway Rodney!
TT hook!
Flop!
Embiid such a freaking flopper…
That TT pop shot has been going in more than not lately…
