Live Thread: Cavs vs. Pistons (#GlassMonster)
2019-03-18The Detroit Pistons are a pretty scary rebounding team, featuring one of the best on the glass… Andre Drummond. This season, Drummond leads the league by a comfortable margin with 15.3 per contest, and has averaged 16.0 in three previous clashes against the Cavs, even though he didn’t even have to play the fourth quarter of two of those games.
Drummond and the Pistons would be hard to stop even if the Cavs had a healthy front line… which they don’t currently. News came this afternoon that Kevin Love would miss tonight’s game with lower back soreness following a bad fall late in the second quarter against Dallas on Saturday. Without him, or the also injured Larry Nance, Jr. and Tristan Thompson, it will fall to the likes of Ante Zizic and Marquese Chriss to keep the Piston glass monster at bay. Call me a pessimist, but this seems unlikely to happen.
On the positive side, Drummond’s usual monster partner on the boards, Blake Griffin, will be held out of this one due to rest for the stretch run. Detroit is coming off an emotional season sweep of the Toronto Raptors yesterday, so maybe the Cavs can catch them napping. The other good news is that Collin Sexton and Cedi Osman have stayed red hot from the perimeter lately, combining to hit 10-14 attempts from deep on Saturday. The Cavs will have to lean heavily on their two youngsters to have much of a shot tonight.
Prediction: The Cavs probably get smashed by the Pistons front line early, but might just have enough shooting to take advantage of Detroit’s weary legs for a late comeback… but still fall 112-107.
Catch all the action starting at 7pm EST on FSO, and as always chime in below…

Nwaba forces the issue.
Terrible set for that cedi brick.
This game is a blast.
Both teams bombing has obliterated my score prediction…
Is this the sauce coming out game? Do we say uncorked?

Hah.
I’d buy that. Probably alone there…
Sexton with his 6th straight 20+ point game…
That was a filthy trey
That ain’t bad…
Lol. Nwaba could easily flailed into to someone.
YOUNG BULL!!!
Sauce draws the foul…
Nice freelancing by Nwaba for the bucket!
Just seems to choose the right option, consistently.
Quiche has at least reached a double double with 10/10, but he’s somehow played more than Ante tonight… mistake
Gotta get Quiche out. That last play he didn’t contest the drive AND did not box Drummond out.
Man, Spurs are playing terrific in this last stretch of games…
Ellington just smoking…
Herculoids never die.
Spicy sauce.
Chriss has got to either block out or go for the board… can’t do neither…
Chriss with a couple quithrows…
Crickets. Man. Tough crowd.
I didn’t get that one…
It was terribly dumb.
There ya go Nate.
Meanwhile…

Still down 1.
If the 2nd unit can keep it close, the starters can take it home.
Reee-diculous…

Not gonna count!
Tissot says no!
Quiche airball…
BK just crossed up Ishmael…
Nice quiche tip!
Off the glass!
Just got back from drug store. Cedi is sneaky tall.
Chriss is just not a very instinctual basketball player…
Sexton really struggling as a playmaker.

JC banking hours…
Might need to keep ZZ on the floor… Ante is +13 against Drummond… Chriss is -14…
Brandon should wear these…
This dime would make LBJ smile…

DAMN EVIL YOUR SCORE PREDICTION MIGHT BE SPOT ON ———-DRUMMOND IS JUST A MONSTER ON THE BOARDS
Cedi is just so smart on the break…
Reggie Jackson has never shot this well in his natural life…
How does Knight never get a foul call on his drives?
Should’ve had 2 calls iirc
So much happier with Dan Geriot’s halftime interviews than Longo…
I wasn’t quite right about Sexton and the Cavs rookie record… here’s the actual stat…
“He is the third Cavs rookie ever to score at least 23 points in five consecutive games, joining Austin Carr (six games) and Ron Harper (five games). With Sexton scoring 20-plus points in five straight games, he ties Luka Doncic and Trae Young for the longest streak of consecutive games with at least 20 points by a rookie this season.”
That was a fun half of basketball. Take out the rotation black holes of Sauce and Quiche and this squad is beating a playoff team.
I vote we make the zz topp spinning guitar the official gif of Ante dunks.

This makes me so happy.
Sexton is 7 points away from tying Cavs record for most 20 point games straight for a Cavs rookie with 7…
That’s kind of amazing.
Agreed, you’d think LeBron would have that one easily
Well, hanging in there. Down 1.
Cavs playing with some pace that’s for sure Cedi awesome running the break.
Optimism scale:
HIGH: Love, Sexton, Cedi, LNJ, Nwaba.
Medium: Delly, TT, Zizic, Knight, Henson
Low: Clarkson, Stauskas
OFF: Chriss
“HIGH: Love, Sexton, Cedi, LNJ, Nwaba.”
Pretty decent group of players right there.
If they can limit second chance opportunities in the second half, Cavs will have a good chance

Quiche block x2
Pretty good fight to get back into things…
