Live Thread: Grizzlies @ Cavs
2025-02-23Good evening CtB!
Cavs fans are eating good as we get to experience yet another prime time, national TV NBA showcase as the good guys welcome the Memphis Grizzlies to the banks of the Cuyahoga River for a possible NBA Finals preview. The Grizzlies have found their way back to prominence in the Western Conference, and they play the exact brand of basketball that beats the Cavs: they are the 2nd best rebounding team in the NBA by rebound rate. Whoever wins the boards, will win this game.
The sneaky thing about the Cavs recently is that they’re steadily improving their rebounding to where they’re sniffing the top 10… tonight will be the exact test needed to measure if their improvements are mirage or something more. Stay tuned…
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live nationally on ESPN, Go Cavs!
INJURY REPORT: DG out, JA in… all hands on deck for both teams.
Larry Dolan: 31 02 08 — 25 02 24
MOBES HAS MY VOTE—- CLEARLY OUTPLAYED JACKSON LAST NIGHT 👍💪🏀
Mobley for DPOY?

Alex Caruso not being on this shortlist is criminal.
He plays less than 20 minutes a game and against primarily backups… him being on the list would be criminal.
also flat out ineligible cuz he won’t play 65 games.
GLEAGUE —— EMONI 7 / 16 FROM 3 NYQUIL 7 / 9 = 20 pts —-6 REB’s VERY EFFICIENT!!
I thought NyQuil was on the varsity now?
WATCHING REPLAY— FUN GAME TO WATCH—- REBOUNDING IMPRESSIVE—— ALSO GLAD TO SEE WE ARENT BACKING DOWN FROM A FIGHT—- EVEN WHEN 3 BALL WASNT FALLING STILL FOUND A WAY TO WIN!!!
looking good when things are chippy is TT’s best skill. GN also looked pretty serious when things got ugly — D’AH might fill that role.
47 / 10 (82.5%) at the 70% pole. Best possible: 87.8%. Worst possible: 57.3%. (57.3% would be fifth in EC right now)
Next 8:
Tuesday: at Magic
Friday: at Celtics
then a not-so-hard six game stretch
Gutty win, courtesy Ty Jerome and hustling for offensive rebounds.
Jarrett not really himself with his hand hurting. Really affected his FT.
Offense not looking fluid with DG out and new guys.
I bet he tries to gut out the next two in Orlando & Boston. Especially if DG remains out. And Wade/Okoro still looking for their stride. Maybe he takes a break when the schedule eases up.
Just eanted to say a word about that late 3 Mobely hit. He was 0-6 from deep at that point….
and still was willing to take it. In a strange way, that is progress. Before je’d never get to 0-6 because he’d stop taking them after a couple missess.
That’s absolutely right. It did not look like he hesitated at all when he saw the look was open. It’s a big step.
Yep
Great point, it’s a signal of elite mental toughness, which is the secret ingredient to playoff success.
Allen does whatever we ask of him man. He’s led the charge on the rebound improvement-tough as nails.
Cavs outrebounded Memphis by 20, that’s why they won the game exactly as I predicted.
Absolutely. Good call from the preview.
Ice & Hunter both rebounded well, something they both normally don’t excel at.
I feel like this coaching staff has actually been working on rebounding and helping people get better at it. I’ve been seeing more and more good rebounding position and it’s really cool.
I had no idea they’ve improved so much recently, they’ve gone from bottom 10 to sniffing top 10 in the span of about a month or two.
If Ice and Hunter rebound like this consistently, they probably double their bank accounts from now
Hunter was really rough on defense today. Uncoordinated and slow to react. Great effort by him and everyone else on the boards..
Refs bad on both sides imo.
That is 7 in a row. If we can get the next 2 (at Orlando, at Boston), we could really go streaking.
Still a solid win without DG.
Too many fould for it to be a fun game to watch.
The last 4 minutes weren’t particularly good. But aside from the FT shooting late and 3PT shooting, we were mostly excellent. Let Memphis/refs get in their heads a bit.
Also exhaustion from a three hour game.
With all the FTs, no way anyone should have been tired.
Solid win
Dumb foul
Clutch, Max
That was dumb from Strus.
He makes a surprising amount of boneheaded plays
I thought JJJ flopped after hooking Max. But yeah. Gotta be more cognizant there.
Finally they other team misses
FLOP
Foul shooting absolutely sucks. Allen with some terrible defensive efforts last two minutes
He looks wiped.
11 missed free throws today.
Barely hanging on. And leaving points on the table.
Jesus Christ with these missed free throws!
Playing with fire
Put Ice in for D.
Man. I don’t think that’s a foul in the last minut. Cavs catch a break.
We have not gotten a stop in forever.
I love Mitchell but too much hero ball.
Spida slam !
Jerome out executing the whole Memphis squad.
Strus!
Lots of missed FTs this quarter
Yeesh. FT’s win games fellas…
Ty just so good at pinning guys on his hip.
Onreal passing. Mobley is amazing.
And that finish by Allen good Lord
These continuation rules are way inconsistent.
Back breaker Mobl3y
Mitchell dribbling the air out of the ball cause they’re gassed
Goddamit JA
One of the few times the Cavs let their emotions get the better of them before deciding to challenge.
Never believe the player.
50-30 on the glass.
Jerome is ballin’ tonight.
Lol @ Mitch promising Kenny
He lied. :)
Brad is right on that subject, never trust the player.
That closeout from out of nowhere by Merrill on Bane might be my favorite play of the game.
Not sure if that was worth challenging.
Especially without possession.
Unreal closeout from Sam Merrill there followed by a back-breaking three ball by Ty Jerome… Followed by another stop and another Jerome bucket. #ClosingTy
Attaway Ty
Ty Jerome letting them know
Way to go Sam. Way to stick with it.
Strus, Jerome, Okoro, and Sam have all connected from deep. Time for Hunter to join in.
Never. Stop. Attacking.
Cavs so great about knowing when they have a rebounder and can take a transition three off the bounce.
Cavs getting a little dribble happy, and Mobley trying to do too much. Let Ty run the offense.
Hunter had a very good look. Nice execution. Let’s hope they can close this out
Bad foul by Wade. Didn’t need to shove. He had help.
Mobley gotta get some arc back in his shot
Make it three dumb Merrill plays.
Grizzlies getting under his skin. Got to learn how to tune it out.
Two dumb fould from Merrill.
Bane is a douche!
You should be allowed to use up your challenge to block the other team’s challenge.
Guess we didn’t need to anyway
Ty is such ridiculous bench iso scorer.
The Cavs floor balance makes it all happen.
Jarrett Allen: NBA’s best finisher.
With Ice 9ut we cheat over more to help on Ja, leaving open 3s.
Easier to do with bane off
Cavs oob execution so much better this year
That looks like continuation to me.
That’s gotta be an and-1 for T, WTF?!
I love how fast the Cavs gets into their offense. No wasted motion.
Bummed no DG tonight. He always gets up against the Grizzlies/Morant.
Yeah, but he needs it. He got the shit beat out of him last game Plus I love the next man up mentally.
For sure
Really pisses me off that he got the hip contusion thanks to a cheap, bitch-ass push in the back by Towns while in mid-air. Lucky nothing worse happened.
Should’ve been a flagrant
Love the competitiveness
Bane trying to rat ball it up.
Not sure why Mitch got a tech?
Had to call something. Both he and bane wouldn’t stop wrestling after whistle
Pretty dumb. I guess they’re just hoping to ease tension by calling it both sides.
Exactly
