Playoff Live Thread Game 3: Cavs @ Heat (or, Target Lock Tyler)
2025-04-26Saturday afternoon bad news, Cavs fans: Cleveland will be without Darius Garland due to a sprained toe. After a war of words in the last couple days between he and Herro, Darius was ruled out before game time. The Heat will be without Love and Rozier still and I expect to see a healthy dose of Nikola Jovic. From Miami.
Here’s the key to this game: use Herro’s aggressiveness against him.
Tyler’s gonna be keyed up. Pump fake, coming off the screen and pulling up so he runs into you, decoy plays… They should all be a part of the game plan. Cleveland needs to feed the bigs around the basket cause Miami will want to take away the Cavs’ perimeter game which has killed em this week.
In other news, keep making Herro hit tough shots and limiting everyone else’s damage. Pay attention to Jovic and Make Bam hit threes. And go Cavs.
Tough end to the Knicks/Pistons game. Wish Detroit had managed to go after Brunson more down the stretch. Cade had a good look. though, just didn’t make it. Credit to KAT for some great shots in the 4th.

I had been thinking that we already see DM+EM as a RP (rotation pair), DG+JA as a RP, now add TJ+D’AH as a RP. assuming each RP work extra well together for whatever reason.
this is a cool feature of a rotation — is it widely used?

Cleveland’s strength & conditioning and training, along with the coaching staffs deserves a lot of love.
all of this roster moves so well. they all feel to be so sturdy and stout in their respective & similar ways. Everyone is so spry.
& they each use it all to really execute clean, and simple and effective cuts and routing. Really really spatially aware of themselves. Always connected in their gapping.

to keep this window open as long as possible, AVOID signing any high paid older guys who used to be great. the Suns are the perfect example of that stragegy. it is working better for the Clippers, probably because Lenard and Harden are actually trying to win, whereas Durant and Beal just care about personal stats and cashing a check.

And all his shot makes were highlight reels, because he was triple teamed when he drove the lane. No wonder he was racking up assists. Left the Heat’s defense in shambles.

Heat shot 47 percent on 34 attempts from 3 . . . and still lost by 37! One reason among many – Cavs out-rebounded them 46-29. I think that’s going to make some CTB hosts very happy (and rightly so).

Yeah I think Chuck has been pretty consistently bullish on the Cavs all season since their opening streak.

The starting 5 did lose their minutes. Hard to do in a 37 point win.
But I am mot sure Wade had a ton to do with the run. Though the D, as always, was good.
But he is a complete nada on offense far too often.
It’s complicated. Part of the gameplay was to focus on defensive effort for which Wade is really good and his switches on Bam / Wiggins were strong.
But if you are running offense through the bigs you was Merrill’s spacing so guards aren’t feeling so free to dig down.
Not sure it matters a ton going forward (as Raoul sez, 37 point loss and DG may play tomorrow).

what’s up with late round Brown’s picks, you ask? how about two RB and two QB — including you know who.
I’m happy with how the QB picks played out, in hindsight. I mean they couldn’t have known two days ago that Shadeur would drop THAT far, but in the end, they get him in the 5th round instead of burning number 2 overall or even one of their second rounders on him. That’s a minimal investment, so they should have no hesitation next year trying to use their two 2026 rd 1 picks on another FQB prospect if it’s clear they need to. Cavs with 50 pts in the paint this game and 13 3PM (39 pts).. and it’s the opposite from G2 where we killed them at the 3 with 22 made 3’s (66 pts) and only 28 paint points.
