Live Thread: Pacers @ Cavs
2015-11-08
Heading into the seventh game of the season, there’s a lot to of reasons for the Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans to be happy with how the 2015-2016 campaign has started. After a 5-1 start, the Cavaliers are currently tied with the Toronto Raptors for the second best record in the Eastern Conference. Even more encouraging is their +10.2 point differential, second only to the Golden State Warriors in the entire NBA. LeBron James looks as explosive as ever. Mo Williams has been tremendous on the offensive end. Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson are both among the top ten in the NBA in rebounds per game. Matthew Dellavedova seems to have taken a major step forward as an offensive player. Richard Jefferson seems like a huge upgrade over Shawn Marion and Mike Miller.
Despite all of those positives, there are still areas that the Cavaliers both can and need to improve upon before they are truly the title contender we all expect them to be. Much of this improvement will simply come when Kyrie Irving and Iman Shumpert return to action. With J.R. Smith recently missing time due to a bone bruise in his knee as well as quadriceps tendinitis, the Cavaliers have been without three critical rotation players. This has been part of the reason why recent games against the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have been closer than one would expect.
Injuries aren’t the only reason these games have been close though. Like many of the more talented teams in the NBA, the Cavaliers have a habit of coasting at times, particularly against lesser opponents. My wife and I went to Friday night’s game against Philadelphia, and the Cavs’ on/off switch had never been more apparent. Throughout the game, the Cavaliers would build a lead against the Sixers, only to take their foot (feet?) off the pedal the last few minutes of each quarter and let Nerlens Noel and company back into the game. As EvilGenius pointed out in his recap, the Cavaliers were outscored 39-10 over the last two minutes of each quarter combined. While this may not have hurt them against the 76ers, bad habits like this would likely cost the Cavaliers a game against a more dangerous opponent.
The Indiana Pacers could very well be the opponent who takes advantage of the Cavaliers’ complacency. After starting the season 0-3, the Pacers have battled back to .500 after defeating the Miami Heat 90-87 on Friday night. Paul George was absolutely magnificent against the Heat, torching them for 36 points along with 12 rebounds, three assists, three steals, and a block. Indiana is in the midst of a transformation from the plodding defense-first style that had served them so well in recent years to the kind of up tempo pace-and-space style that is so prevalent in the league today. They’re going to have their fair share of hiccups along the way, but with George, along with Monta Ellis and George Hill, the Pacers are capable of upsetting any team in the league.
Game time is 3:30 EST. Fans can watch on Fox Sports Ohio and listen on WTAM 1100. Tune in and go “All In” with the Cavaliers as they try to earn their sixth victory in a row.
Cavs cranking up the defense…
Hit those FT’s please…….
Delly saves the ball
Cavs hustle down the court now
LeBron gets a call
Klove an absolute monster on the D Boards in the fourth.
Make the clutch ones at least Lebron!
Delly! Saves the ball. LeBron! Finally gets a call.
makeup call lol
Got lucky. LBJ got to get the ball to love quicker when he has his man pinned like that.
Yeah, you could hear Love calling for the ball. I thought he was going to called for three seconds by the time LeBron made the pass,
Finally LeBron gets a call.
The Flying Wombat baseline save.
Great hustle save by Delly!
Great example on why he closes in games
TT awesome this game.
Also, KLove now has 18 pts and 18 boards…
Funny last hear he was Mr. First Quarter. This year, he’s Mr. Fourth.
I think this is going to be our closers
Lol….nice assist, Lebron….
Wow. LeBron gets hammered then Ellis. Travels on the break… Smh.
Time for talent to close this game out in the final minutes. Come on Cavs.
This game is frustrating to watch. We’re better than them but we’re giving them so much friggin respect.
To be fair… PG-13 has been transcendent…
but whats his face hill has killed us on the boards. just bad boxouts.
Jordan Hill has always been good on the glass though…
Terrible last set took them til 11 sec on the shot clock to get into a high screen.
The Mo 17 footer i mean.
God, don’t give Monta a wide open look like that…
LeBron looked like he got mugged.
he did. mugged so he couldn’t elevate and then the guy got ball. ridiculous.
What the HELL was that?
Love with the block to keep the Cavs in the lead!
Rebounds are about equal, but it sure seems like the Pacers are getting most of them, and seems like are getting 80% of the loose balls. Let’s get Delly in there.
Delly has been in there…
Vogel is a good coach… he really doesn’t let these guys ever give up… even last year, I was convinced they were going to grab that final playoff spot even with out PG-13…
I wish they’d put this team away.
Pacers grinding. Made some shots and we have gotten shafted by the refs a few times.
Man PG jumper is on today.
This is the kind of game where Shump will be ultra-valuable on that front…
Uncalled walk on PG-13…
Cavs can’t let them come back to lead
GREAT two man game between Mo and KLove…
Great pick and roll action for Mo and Love.
HOW are the refs not calling fouls when RJ gets hacked??
Yeah another foul on RJ.
Refs hatin on RJ. WTH??
RJ with the thievery!
Nice RJ!!!!!!!!!!!!
All due credit, TT has been good this year, as annoying as his absurd holdout was.
Would like to see love get some high post touches while lbj is resting. Love the way we’re running the break today tho, cept for that last tt oop try.
RJ should have given it up earlier so the other guys could have flared out. Waited a bit too long imo
I would prefer Ohio State QB comparison.
Yeah… but Mo went to Alabama…
I know that’s why I said it. ;)
Good to see Mo and KLove picking it up.
Nice downfield pass from Mo.
TD MO GOTTI!!!
RJ clearly got fouled on the drive…
Yeah RJ got fouled there.
A little too high on the lob that time…
Well that sucked
KLOVE!!! Finally….
Finally K Love!!
Somebody needs to yell “same team” out there…
GOOSIE!!!
If the Cavs lose this one it will be again cause of the their horrible FT shooting.
Keep doing that TT
Kind of fell in love with jumpers at the end of that qtr. Would like to lbj try to get back into post, though his mid range game seems to be good today. Still rather see him work down low if Love is not in the game.
Can’t go to that Moz trey well too often…
I missed what happened….did he take a fall?
Not sure…
Cavs having trouble pulling away.
Cavs closing out the quarter with a whimper.
Our chucking 3s are killing us
Cavs making Monta look unstoppable…
Monta is what Dion sees when he looks in the mirror.
PG-13 looks even better than before the injury…
Glad they called that a block…
Delly and TT players of the game so far.
LBJ has been no slouch either…
Delly really gambled on that steal. But I like the killer instinct.
Cavs bench outscoring Pacers 21-8…
Break break break, run them outta the gym,!!!!!
Tough finish for TT, but he got it in the bucket.
Cavs are breaking away here. Looking good!
Back to back grand theft Aussie…
Whoa Delly. Beautiful play.
Delly has been the sparkplug.
