Live Thread: Cavs @ Pelicans
2015-12-04The Cavs will look to bend a few beaks tonight as they prepare to take on the Pelicans in the first game of a quick back-to-back weekend road trip at Smoothie King Center (yeah, that’s right… Smoothie King… drink it in). New Orleans hasn’t quite lived up to their lofty expectations, after surprisingly winging their way into the playoffs last season. They come into this one with just a 4-15 record, having lost their last four in a row (sound familiar? *cough* *cough* Wizards…), despite still getting a high level of play from their rising superstar, Anthony Davis (23.5 ppg, 10.7 rpg). Meanwhile, the Cavs are reportedly making a change to their starting lineup to help bolster their defensive efforts from the outset, inserting Matthew Dellavedova for Mo Williams.
After giving up early leads to lesser teams lately, David Blatt is apparently looking to staunch the bleeding of opposing guard penetration, at least until his starting backcourt can return. On that front, the Cavs got some encouraging news with regards to their missing star point guard, as Kyrie Irving progressed to a full court, full-contact five-on-five practice yesterday. According to ESPN, Irving’s presence, along with Iman Shumpert’s, resulted in the Cavs’ “best practice, by far” of the season.
In the best quote of the article, Irving said that he and Shumpert hope to emulate professional wrestlers when they get back in the lineup:
“We understand our presence on the team and what we bring to the team,” Irving said. “When we get back we call ourselves the Hardy Brothers. We’re coming full attack like the Hardy Brothers back in WWF.”
Probable starting lineup for tonight for the Cavs: Matthew Dellavedova, J.R. Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson. And for the Pels: Eric Gordon, Tyreke Evans, Alonzo Gee, Anthony Davis and Omer Asik.
One guy who won’t be playing, but made his presence known anyway during warmups, is former Cav (and still Angry Smurf) Kendrick Perkins, who reportedly shouted something at Delly…
Kendrick Perkins visited #Cavs on court. He yelled at Matthew Dellavedova, "You lucky I ain't playing. I'd hit you with a hard-ass screen."

Logic should dictate that the Cavs will be able to handle The Brow and his flock fairly easily, but as we know, nothing seems all that easy for the Cavs these days. New Orleans will likely give the wine & gold all they can handle on their home court, especially with the return of a healthy Tyreke Evans. Hopefully, Delly can help keep him in check.
Prediction: Cavs 114-110.
GO CAVS!
The announcer called it —–>>> ISO LeBron!
GRAB THE REBOUND TT!!! GOSH!
JR with a JR type play. Just pick it up
Ridiculously bad sequence there…
How do you not block out Anderson?
All this from James just when it looked like he needed two weeks in South Beach for R&R.
Pels 4-15 in da 4th.
Lebron frustrates me allot of times, buh damn 19 points in da 4th, we needed every point. We need like 2 stop.s he is 8-13 in da 4th. 4-12 in in the 1-3 quarters.
That’s our king !!!!!!! Again saving the day!!!!!
Maybe stop switching on Labran James screens?
Collins: “Don’t analyze, just idolize.”
LBJ: The Executioner.
Damn LeBron! Playing to the crowd here.
LBJ with the vintage Kobe step-back…
Gotta get over the hump
And James delivers the step-back for the lead!
LeBron needs to find his Chi.
Was that a fired-up Cavs fan on the baseline or a Pels fan who wanted a piece of James?
This crowd hates James.
Not sure why?
LBJ and Anderson got into it… did you see that early in the game? Ever since, they’ve been booing LBJ loudly.
They were booing him before that happened
Hope the Cavs can pull this out, but, man, Lebron is playing a lot of minutes and expending a lot of effort.
Lets get a good look out of the time out AND A SCORE, hate playing from behind, especially on da road.
Would love to see the same play they ran to get Love the easy post up in the first half
So this is why New Oreals sucks this year
LaBran James!!!!!!!
LBJ might have just completely redeemed himself with that sequence… WOW
FOULED the whole way down the court!!!
Better call and one on that one!!
Yes!
TT can’t handle Asik… would have been a good game for Moz if he was with it…
Moz played well enough earlier, don’t know why Blatt hasn’t matched up.
JR + refs = bad karma again.
Davis was clearly over the back…
JR got shoved on that rebound
Not sure TT post ups are what we need right now
85 million…
Can’t imagine that they are better with Asik than Anderson
I agree… I don’t get it.
Gordon gets the James Harden call there lowering his shoulder into JR.
Evans, not Gordon…
Awful call. Just awful.
Bad call….
Definitely… Evans initiated that contact.
Oh hey, Delly! Glad you are still with us!
I just hope that when KI and Shump comeback the Cavs can go back to play the type of offense that they were playing at the beginning of the season.
would be nice for some stops and if KLOVE can hit his first 3 of the night
WOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Let’s keep talking smack about LBJ, I think he’s responding to it. HAHAHAHAH!!!
always feel like Delly is always da one trying get us close to win a game
Sorry about that.
Delly trey!!!! 7-0 run in one Minute!
Finally! Some life on that transition!
Dellafriggindova
Keep it clean Rodney ;)
Sorry about that. Frustration boiled over then all came out lol
All good…
Only Delly is +5 in this game, rest of the Cavs players or in the minus
Good hustle by Love scrambling back to challenge Anderson on a 3.
I think the Cavs have like 3-4 assists this half in 18 minutes, NOT GOOD. If Pels had hit more free throws this woulda been a 20 point lead for them, Cavs not impressing me so far this year for real. I think our only big win was against Grizzles by 30 points, since then its been okay not WOW. Dont care if the starting backcourt is out, these are NBA players getting paid millions
JUST GOT HOME FROM MY GAME ( WE LOST IN OT ) WHICH SUCKS BUT NOT AS BAD EVIDENTLY AS THE CAVS SUCK—WHAT’S GOING ON ?—–TIME TO PANIC OR TIME TO GO BOWLING ?—
Time to get healthy
LeBron has totally lost his confidence on his jumpshot. He wants to drive all the time and the good times are waiting for him in the paint.

TT needs to get out of the way and let LBJ back down Cole. Sheesh
Cavs are in danger of becoming the tonic for teams on losing streaks.
Second straight team on a four game losing streak… ugh…
MOVE THE BALL!!
I don’t think they are allowed to anymore. Just drives into traffic followed by a bad shot or turnover.
LeBron’s man again…
I hope LeBron takes himself aside tonight after the game and yells at himself thoroughly…
He had the mismatch with Cole on him, throws it away to the corner.
This game is on LeBron . He’s just playing like poo.
I mean the defense has been pretty horrid in general. LeBron hasn’t bailed them out but the Cavs as a whole, outside of JR’s first quarter, have not been good.
It really is, Nate. I’ve never seen him so out of sorts
This team blows
This is some terrible basketball.
Love about to check in thank the Lord…
WHy the hell you passing to Jones when you got JR?
10-29 since first week
JR is hooting 50% tonight. JOnes is 20%
Correction: shooting …..
LeBron is making my brain hurt…
I get it. They don’t have the guard depth to do anything other than live with Mo’s putrid defense. They are protecting Andy by playing Jones. The bench is gonna stunk. Blatt has to play them. Cavs starters will. Make this one competitive.
Exactly. Just bury are heads till Irving and Shump have played 10 games each. Then JJ’s minutes turn into RJ’s. And Mo is 3rd string. And JR is the heater on the bench
Agreed… Mo was meant to play with Delly/SHump.
Need to get Love back in to attack the paint…
I endorse this statement.
Has James Jones hit a 3 since the first week?
Has. One tonight.
I definitely haven’t typed the words “James” or “Freaking” or “Jones” all that much this year…
He has, but I’m pretty tired of seeing him out there clanking threes and doing nothing else, as Nate mentioned in the pod.
10-28 since the first week. Not good enough for a dude his terrible at everything else
LeBron’s worst game since the season’s beginning.
LeBron awful from the floor tonight… 4-13
that means he’s 0-6 this half.
He finally got one on that last drive…
Damn it Lebron not again
Cavs playing way too slow…
Basically the Cavs have no offense coming from their bench now. I know is due to the fact that KI and Shump are not playing yet but can the Cavs trade for a Jamal Crawford type of scorer/playmaker?
Cause they need ANOTHER guy who can’t play defense?
They have that guy. His name is Mo.
