It’s here: the Cavs’ only remaining chance to enact some measure of Finals vengeance until a possible Finals rematch. The Dubs are in town on a cold Cleveland night. And Cleveland appears to be at full strength with Mo Williams rejoining the team after a death in the family. Mo and Draymond Green though, are still listed as day-to-day on the injury report. LeAndro Barbosa is out for Golden State.
The Cavs are coming off a drubbing off the Rockets, and the Warriors are coming off a tough loss to the Pistons. To say that there’s been a lot of chatter leading up to this would be underselling it. Kyrie Irving noted that the Cavs have to “make a statement.” Steph Curry’s comment the other day that he hopes the visitor’s locker room “still smells a little bit like Champagne” rubbed some Cavs the wrong way. Meanwhile national hyperbole cages this as a “must win” for the Cavs to be taken seriously. I hope they play like it, but as long as they play hard and smart all game, I’ll be happy.
But in reality, the game pales in comparison to the holiday, Martin Luther King Day, the day we can come together and celebrate how much we’ve grown as a country since the civil rights leader’s life and death, and how much farther we need to go. I for one am happy that I get to watch two teams of exceptional young men play a sport against each other and get paid exorbitantly to do it. What matters in the NBA is not what color, nationality, or religion you are, but how well you play and conduct yourself on and off the court. IÂ hope both teams take the occasion to remember that we all can improve as people and work harder to be better people and to lift up those around us. Hopefully this game, regardless of the outcome, uplifts each of you. “Keep moving forward.”
GSW shooting ~65%. Not likely to match that in the second half.
Cavs playing poorly on both ends of the court.
Interested to see what they can do in the second half. (Coaching and character of the team.)
Defense is not here period. 70 pts in a half is just crap. The only good news is that is usually our strength. Not sure why they came out so nonchalant.
Thank God for the NBA schedule! Imagine if we had a 3 or 4 days to pout over this perfomance..

I had posted above that Blatt wasn’t the problem, but I now think he has no control of this team and the team doesn’t trust him. He hasn’t shown ANY type of offensive scheme and the teams’ lack of defensive desire falls on him also.
I guess. LeBron, Jr, and Kyrie just hijacking the offense. At least it’s working for JR.
And a coach who had control or the respect of his players would not allow that to happen.
Teams have trouble in the first game back after a long road trip. Or so we tell ourselves…

Cavs are not on the level of GS or SAS. Maybe they need to make a trade?
Who and what trade were going to swing the first half of this game in the Cavs favor? Morris? I just think they are playing poorly. Obviously Kyrie isn’t double nickel Kyrie right now. Love is a little bit lost in the last few weeks. They have a couple months to get things clicking again.
Not sure who could have helped them tonight… they just seem flat and intimidated (with the possible exception of JR)

The most embarassing game I have watched by the Cavs this year( I did not watch the Portland game). Just a game in January though. They have made everything they have put up and we have… Oh well we never showed up. The biggest problem I think is the low collective basketball IQ as a team and subsequently the lack of passing by most of our players.
Anyway, dont panic.
Totally concur with this. It’s one game, as bad as it is. It’s not even a game that is over yet.

Since my mind is completely fried from it blowing up due to this horrific game, I SAY SCREW IT AND BRING IN MO AND ANDY. This is AWFUL!!
JR is the only one not playing scared. This is why I respect the Spurs. When you watch the Spurs play they play hard all game they move a lot and the Warriors too.
At least we played harder against Spurs.

I’m biggest Delly supporter and I agree with you. This is why Cavs got Mo then it’s time to play him. There isn’t nothing to lose at this point this far behind.
How can Delly do anything? No one is passing.

Nothing can compare to that Portland game, but yeah, this is very much a no show…pretty pathetic. Even crappy teams have fought the Warriors this year. Cavs aren’t even fighting.
maybe.. but that was against bad Portland.. this is against defending champ who beat us in the Finals.. where is the passion, emotion, anger, etc… thus, it is more pathetic… if you can’t get up for this game, why are they playing BB? multi-millionaires just wasting a day at work? inexcusable in my view.
never been Blatt’s fan but never called for his removal but man, he hasn’t shown me anything in 1+ year that he can take this team to another level…. i take young walton any day…

Why are we playing their style of game? Why aren’t we slowing down the pace and playing half court defense? Why are we not running any type of offensive plays?
This is not on one person, this is on everyone… Total lack of mental attitude.
This is a bad performance, but I’m not gonna get down about any regular season game. It’d be equally misguided to get all hyped up if the Cavs won this game by twenty. It just doesn’t mean that much.

Have we had a non-ISO possession this quarter? When they play good teams the ball sticks more and more. I usually just lurk but this is more frustrating to watch than the Portland game.

Yes it could. There’s a problem right now. The Cavs at their absolute best can not play basketball like this. They never have. Assuming this is the Warriors ceiling – the Cavs cannot beat this. Blatt could get fired. Big changes may be coming.
Ok but what does coaching have to do with this? Cavs are getting beat because the Warriors are simply better.
