Live Thread: Cavs @ Clippers
2016-03-13[Editor’s Note: Nate Smith here. I’m pleased to announce that today we are LIVE with the CtB website re-design. It’s been years coming, but we hope it adds to your enjoyment of the site. Included in the re-design is a new comment system that LIVE UPDATES your comment feed every 20 seconds. Your new comments will appear at the top, and other user’s comments appear at the bottom. We’re considering this site/comment system rollout an “open beta.” We request your comments on look/feel/usability in today’s live thread and beyond. None of this is set in stone, and we want the site to be the best it can be for the community. Also, feel free to email us. Remember, we don’t make a dime off this site, and we do it as a labor of love. As such, we might be a little rough around the edges with this rollout, but we really want to hear what you think.
Also premiering today: @CavsTheTweets, our new site twitter handle. Upcoming features will include live courtside tweeting, bonus content, and insight you won’t find anywhere else. Be sure to follow us, and let us know what works and doesn’t there, too. Also, check out our recently launched Facebook page. Thank you all so much for your readership and support and for helping us usher CtB into the 2010’s. Now on to Mike’s Live Thread!]
After two days off to enjoy—but hopefully not too much—Los Angeles, the Cleveland Cavaliers are back in action this afternoon against the Los Angeles Clippers. Both of these teams fancy themselves title contenders, and a win for either would provide a nice confidence boost going forward.
Today’s game could have serious implications in terms of the conference standings as well. The Cavs are just two games ahead of the Toronto Raptors for the top seed in the Eastern Conference, and have several back-to-backs left. Meanwhile the Raptors have a fairly easy schedule the rest of the way, and are playing with terrific focus and confidence. Considering Toronto also holds the tie-breaker, the Cavaliers can’t take any game for granted, and the assumption that even if they lose today they’ll win tomorrow against the Utah Jazz could prove to be a huge mistake.
Meanwhile, the Clippers sit just a game behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the third seed in the Western Conference, and are actually tied with them in the loss column. Whichever team is able to secure the third seed wouldn’t have to face the Golden State Warriors until the Conference Finals, and considering the Clippers’ prior success against the San Antonio Spurs, this has to be a top priority for them.
Vegas currently favors the Cavaliers by about two points in today’s matchup, while BPI gives the Clippers a 54% chance of coming out on top. Whatever the result, expect a great game between these two teams led by close friends LeBron James and Chris Paul. Be sure to tune into ABC at 3:30 and share your thoughts here at Cavs: The Blog!
Hopefully Lebron rides the pine for the rest of this game…
Yup esp with the back to back tomorrow
LBJ with some crappy dribbling to end the quarter…. can’t be perfect all the time!
Cavs Killing this team. Red hot.
It’s infectious…

DELLY SHUTTING CP3 DOWN AGAIN!!!!!
JR with a national coming out party here.
Frye has been money these last two games…
LBJ TO DELLY TO FRYE FOR THREEEEEEE!!!!!
Frye is 4-5 from the field, for 12 pts in 11 minutes of play. +24
Nice defense DELLY!!!! Shut that CP3 drive down!!!
JR WIDE OPEN>>>> GREAT PINDOWN SCREEN!
Is it me or does this team have a whole new level of good chemistry on the road??
This is a game the Cavs should win. I’m not going to get too excited. The Clippers have played horribly much more than the Cavs have played brilliantly
I applaud the effort to update and improve the site. It looks good! A couple notes on my experience: 1. I like the idea of refreshing every 20 seconds, but I find it frustrating to be reading a comment, have the screen refresh, and then have the contents of the screen shift so that I lose my place where I was reading. Since I lose my place every 20 seconds, it’s difficult to read through all the comments if I’m late to the party. 2. The comment times seem incorrect. Comments that are several minutes old are showing time stamps… Read more »
Tom wanted comments to refresh every 10 seconds. I thought a more sane 20 would be good, or even 30. It’s set to 20 right now.
Others’ thoughts on comment refresh time?
Twenty seconds is way too fast for me. I’d prefer at least one minute, and maybe two. Some sites allow the user to set the refresh rate. That’d be a nice option if possible.
Or let the user turn the refresh on and off.
Hubie just called Lebron a ballet guy…lol
LIL Wayne with the dumb commerical…. SHOCKING!
They finally call that Green hand check…
FINALLy.. ref calls hand check on Green
Hah…Didn’t see your post…
Pay attention OldManShumpy!!! LOLOLOL
I can’t lie.. I kept wondering whose groin was Paul going to punch. Friendship means nothing in a game.
Yeah he gets real chippy…Tackled LBJ in the corner earlier and just walked away with a mean scowl on his face…
He punched Lebron in the gut in Cleveland right before the 2nd half as he sprinted down court. Lebron had a look of surprise and he laughed
KYRIE MESMERIZES WITH THE DRIBBLE>>> KYRIE TO LBJ and LBJ WITH THE DRIVE AND +1!!!
great drive and kick by Kyrie for that Jam!
Wow!!! LBJ threw that down with authority!!
Lebron was mean mugging after that and 1 slam!!!
Nice ball movement!!!! KYRIE TO JR FOR THREEEEEEE!!!!!

Oh YEAH Lookin Good!!
Tough assignment for JR this afternoon. Been playing well on D so far, but that was a dumb foul
Redeemed by another JR SWISHHH
Redick takes a dive…. gets the call
I thought hand checking was illegal…But Jeff Green is apparently allowed to hand check Lebron 6 or 7 times per possession with no call…
Kyrie Irving is fueling another JJ Redick run
JR that time
KLOVE!!! Back that punk down and shoot!!!
There was a play there that went horribly wrong
Ugly possession by the Cavs
This is ECF Game 1 JR SMITH FUEGO
JR WITH A RIDICULOUS SHOT!!!!
He Wanted to take that over REddick’s head !!! lol
JR is on Fire!
VINE TEST
vine fail : (
No The Hooper commercials??
Mozerati with the open jumper…. can’t get it to go in
Vine TEST!
LBJ gets it JR >>> JR PURE!!!
Mozgov is just really bad this year…What happened to him?
Actually he had been playing better recently.. He was far worse beginning of season
He’s not playing well, and the team plays really bad when he’s on the court. He’s by far the worst regular rotation player on the cavs +/- wise.
Everyone is open for 3’s in this game
LBJ with a great dump off…. Mozerati with the TOMAHAWK CLANK! LOL
both of these teams don’t look like they care at all
low energy for both teams
KLOVE first post touch of the game…. out of rhythm though
JR SWISH WITH HIS SPECIALTY!!!
Ugly James-Irving pick and roll, but James hits the 3.
LBJ bails offense out with pull up 3!
LBJ iso… loses dribble in the paint. NO POST TOUCHES YET 2nd HALF!
Kyrie bit that bait
KLOVE and Kyrie miss open 3s.
CP3 reading the play right… easy dunk for Jordan.
Kyrie didn’t want the screen probably should’ve taken it that time.
Nice easy jumper for Kyrie
The more I watch this team (basically every game the past two years) the more it is clear to me that LBJ should play as many minutes as possible with Delly, TT, JR and Frye. Kyrie should play mostly with Love, Moz, and Shumpert.
Hmmm Might be a competition fighting to play with Delly. LoL Kyrie plays pretty damn good with him too.
Delly can be a swing on both groups. LeBron needs spot up shooters to pass to and lanes open to drive and defense. I would guess it drives him crazy when love doesn’t get off the open 3. Plus Lebron is better as primary ball handler as us KI.
Hmmmm everyone is a positive on the +/- except…….. Mozgov, and he’s a -10. I don’t think it’s a coincidence either.
Even harder to watch him in person. It’s like he dipped his hands in bacon grease…
Cavs bench is dominating… all except RJ have double digit + numbers on their +/-
12 assists… only 3 TOs for the Cavs…. Kyrie and JR not shooting well… but hopefully will heat up in the 2nd half
LeBron accelerating past people on the break is awesome
He looks energized this season!
Definitely! LBJ only 1 3pta… and he made it!
Can we put links or pics on this? Or is it restricted?
Restricted for now, but it may be live by end of the game… :)
I love this lineup that’s been on the court this quarter. LeBron-KI-Love-JR-Delly. They are impossible to guard in transition and the early offense because all 5 guys can hit from deep. It opens up the quick post up and/or driving lines and kick out threes every time down the court, even when we aren’t on the fast break.
I agree it’s a potent lineup and you can even interchange Frye for Love or Shump for one of the guards…Cavs look good going small…
I agree. The key to me is that KLOVE and LBJ can initiate all the offense in the post or as screeners on the PnR… Plus they’re both good rebounders
I think the main key, is Jordan can’t make Love pay on the offensive end. He has no post up game whatsoever.
NICE!!!!!!!! Now don’t get over confident Cavs & play lazy 3rd
LeBron looks sprightly today.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!
So glad they didn’t bail out Reddick there. Good officiating!
Actually surprised they didn’t call it… they call it all the time
Cavs playing D like it’s the playoffs…
