Live Thread: Pelicans at Cavaliers 1/2/2017
2017-01-02Alrighty folks, it’s the Pelicans at the Q on this Monday night. Anthony Davis and his krewe are coming into this one at a disappointing 14-21 overall and 4-11 on the road, although they are 8-3 against Eastern Conference teams and have the aforementioned Anthony Davis, who comes into the game 2nd in the league in scoring at 29.2 points per game.
Things to look for:
Anthony Davis is going to be a test for the Cavs’ undersized frontline — we’ll see how this goes. As long as the Cavs can make him work at both ends of the floor, I don’t mind if he ends up with a big game on the box score. It’s all you can do against players like him sometimes.
Kyrie out again tonight, with McRae again getting the start. I’m suspicious, but he made the most of his previous opportunity to start, so let’s hope he can keep it going.
Good chance we’ll see some Kay Felder tonight, as he’s also coming off his best game of the season. There are minutes to be had in this rotation, and if a young guy could snatch them up it would be great. (It would be better if Felder got them, but McCrae has earned a game of my patience.)
Looking for Shump to get back on track a bit — I love you, Richard Jefferson, but I’m not ready for months of you as the second-best wing on the team.
Alright, let’s stay undefeated in 2017. See y’all tonight for the recap.
Attended the game in person tonight. Happy for the win and appreciate everyone grinding. Gotta say it looked like a bunch of hangovers through first three quarters. Game balls to Kay and Channing. Far from best win. Hope Ky is back (and LeBron dresses) for Bulls. Didn’t hear about food poisoning until the car ride out, and the LeBron illness until postgame show in suburbs. So feel better about the observed effort levels w that info. Can we have general rules when game not yet out of hand that (1) Liggins and McRae cannot be on floor at same time,… Read more »
Lucky you to be there! They usually do have 1 of the BIG 3 in at all times but with Kyrie hurt & Love sick; kinda short handed. When Lebron went out in the 3rd to get a little rest & Felder came in; they actually got ahead tonight.
I work at the hospital in Salem and we are seeing a lot of stomach flu and upper respiratory infections going on. It has def escalate after all these family gatherings and parties . Take you Airborne everyone!
Apparently, Lebron was also sick tonight. He had said he wasn’t feeling well either but had to push through it. Sounded like upper respiratory .
Great W. I’ll take gritty over pretty. Down to 10 players & 1 of those with food poisoning. Cold shooting. Felder starting to emerge. JFJ giving us good minutes when called upon. RJ with a double double. Frye was great. James was James.
Perhaps we don’t need to add a PG? Hopefully Kyrie returns vs. Chicago. We need to treat them like Milwuakee. Get ’em for that earlier game.
Felder is playing like he did in college against amateurs…passing and scoring with confidence. Could have had a few extra dimes had we been shooting well. Can’t afford to not extend his minutes…would be a waste of his learning curve
TY STILL SOMEWHAT ” POKER FACED ” AS FAR AS KSHRIMPS MINUTES GOING FORWARD —-GOTTA FIND MINUTES EVERY GAME FOR THIS KID NO MATTER WHO THE OPPONENT OR WHAT THE PERSONAL MATCH UP IS
IMAN OUT SHOOTING POST GAME JUMPERS / WORKING ON HIS SHOT—GREAT TO SEE THAT ATTITUDE
Nice showing from Felder down the stretch. Had the Pelicans on their heels. Cavs missed a billion shots and still closed out the game.
Anyone else surprised the Pelicans never once fouled late to stop the clock? Esp with the way the Cavs are shooting Free throws? They just kinda conceded the game
Agree that it looked like Gentry threw in the towel
Watching bulls/hornets on NBA TV. We are so lucky to have Austin and Fred. These announcers are vallium
Great point! AC and Fred are terrific and we’re lucky to have them…and Allie too!
Lue said KLove lost 10’lbs the last two days from food poisoning
Can you lose 10 lbs in 2 days without it being an amputation?
I’m had food poisoning 9-10 yrs ago and lost 3 lbs. Water weight. I weigh 160, so I guess it is feasible given KLove’s size
Yes especially if you are losing it both ends . Lue had implied this in an awkward way but we got the idea.
I heard that too. It was reported earlier today that both Marcus Smart and Zellar had stomach flu and were in the hospital. My first thought was,” Oh great which Cav is going to get their flu bug?”
WILL TAKE THAT FREAK OF NATURE ANYTIME
All I’m saying is you can’t win a title with Anthony Davis as your best player. He reminds me of young Kyrie. In theory he had the whole package (for his position), but he couldn’t actually turn it into wins or making any of his teammates better. Now, if the Brow finds his “Lebron”, look out.
Totally can win a title with AD as your best. But in the NBA now you need 3-4 Allstars to win a title. New. Orleans just doesn’t have the talent.
That’s not true at all. The Cavs won with 2 All-stars, Kevin didn’t play like one last year. The Thunder were right there with two elite players. The Spurs, too, after the prime of their Big Three. It’s the “Strength in Numbers” Warriors, that are trying to change the status quo.
Anyway, I agree that Davis is great, but I think his impact on the game is not what it should be. Also, he is very injury prone for an elite player.
