Playoff Live Thread: Cavs @ Celtics, Game 2 (#ScaryMonstars)
2017-05-19
Who says LeBron James isn’t scary? Well, apparently… the 5’8 dude who got the majority of his shots altered by the monstrous defense LBJ and the Cavs played on him in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
“We’re not scared of Cleveland. They’re not the Monstars. They’re not on ‘Space Jam,'” Thomas said. “They lace up their shoes just like us. They just happened to play better than us in Game 1. We just gotta protect [our] home court in Game 2 and get the win.”
Umm… you sure about that Ike? I mean that had to be pretty frightening how the Cavs stopped you and took your team apart on Wednesday… and even though they played better than you, LeBron himself didn’t think they played anywhere close to their best basketball. In fact, outside of the Cavs’ starting front court, nobody else in a wine & gold jersey really did much offensively.
The truth is, the Celtics don’t have a whole lot of options to fall back on, other than to try and scare the Cavs with physical play and general thuggery (which they already started employing in the third quarter of Game 1). Sure, they could certainly shoot better from beyond the arc… but so could the Cavs… especially if Brad Stevens decides to start doubling LeBron. If that happens… things could get really ugly. You have to believe there will be an abundance of open shooters, and odds are against Kyrie, J.R. and Kyle Korver going 1-10 from three again.
When, not if, the aggression comes from the likes of Marcus Smart, Jae Crowder, Kelly Olynyk, et al… the true test for the Cavs is how well they keep their composure… not only for sake of this series, but also so they don’t incur any suspensions for the next round. There’s also the potential for injury (as we’ve seen) when the tactics go bush league… so hopefully, the Cavs can also take precautions to protect themselves from cheap shots.
This should be the most competitive game the Cavs see from the top-seeded Celtics, mainly because this could be the last winnable one for Boston in this series. I expect it to be a harder fought, even more physical, grind it out affair, but in the end, the Cavs should be able to pull away. The starting lineups should remain the same, although there has been speculation that Stevens could go smaller with Gerald Green starting in place of Amir Johnson to try and counter-act the Cavs’ front line dominance.
Prediction: The Celtics might give them a scare along the way, but ultimately the Cavs put their monster talent on display to show them they should be afraid… very afraid… Final score: 109-103.
Catch all the action on TNT starting at 8:30pm (EST), and don’t forget to chime in here…
Alright Imma record the InstaCap. It’s going to be disappointing. No analysis needed.
Just smile and shrug.
I have a great nickname for Rozier…’Garbage Time’…I think it’ll stick…
Lol at the Celtics fans chanting “Let’s go Celtics”
Do we really have to watch two more games of this series? That’s ridiculous.
It’s a little early to ask, E.G., but will the Celtics even earn a Certificate of Participation for this?
Dishonorable Discharge…
When DWIll 2 is the last guy off your bench, you are the deepest team in the league.
Someone asked me the other day if Derrick Williams sucks. I said, “no. The Cavs just have the greatest bench in NBA history.
He does kind of suck, though…
Easy Cols…
Howso? He’s been very good when in this year.
Kidding me? Wildcat line up was one of the best line ups of the regular season.
Like, what….. Boston is putting their hopes in Markelle Fultz? Markelle Fultz? Really? At best he’s what Lowry? Lillard maybe? Boston is not close, they will never be close.
They’re thinking at best he’s a franchise player. Who knows, maybe he is. That’s no sure thing, though…

Cols. All hail, Cols.
No.

I need to say I’m laughing out loud to this.
That’s genius
DWill really looking like an asset off the bench in the playoffs…nice to see…
When JJ and DWill2 come in, it’s “Double Garbage Time.” No disrespect
Cavs are now over 50% from three 17-33…
Wow. Damn, Cavs.
Yes CWebb. Brown gave his team one heck of a spark this game. Wtf.
Cavs bench not content… now up 50!
Shump with the sweet stroke from the corner!
So what’s our over/under in W-L next season? 45 wins??
If we win the championship we might as well all not watch next season because they’ll just end up being an 8 seed and make us miserable all season long. The regular season will be dead.
If they somehow beat GS in the finals again this year, they might miss the playoffs next year…
Looks like 12-0 going into the Finals for sure
I’m kind of embarrassed for the Celtics… I mean, I can’t stand them, but this is horrific…
Yeah I agree. But idgaf if we’re doing this to the Warriors.
Karma for KO breaking Love’s shoulder. I don’t feel bad for them. At all. 17 titles. The cheating Pats. The Sox. Rascist chants. Buck Foston.
Wow… you guys hate them even more than I do… lol
Last team ever I’d feel sorry for…wonder if Heinsohn is putting this a$$ kicking on the refs?
Tom we’re all expecting the instacap up before the game ends – take it as a personal challenge!
Hahaha
In Tom we trust.
what’s to even CAP!?
Just cap first quarter?
First half of the first quarter?
Maybe you can recycle Game 1 ‘cap for the next 3 games. Saved time and money!
Can I just laugh for 3 minutes?
Seriously, the Cavs are having a harder time doing the VersaClimber than beating this Celts.
People saying Boston is two years away. I don’t see it. Unless two absolute Superstars, top 10 nba players magically come and join them, they will never be close. And Fultz won’t be one of those Superstars.
They would need to get Hayward, and maybe someone else, and have their Nets gift pan out super quick. And then they are going to start losing some of these guys they have now, unless they want to max them…
Yea. They will never be close. They need Anthony Davis, Paul George, Damian Lillard to magically join them. THen it will take a year or two for them to develop chemistry. None of this will ever happen. None of this is possible. They will never be close.
Philadelphia and Milwaukee are closer.
FUltz doesn’t compliment IT on the backcourt. Basically the same player, weakness and strengths. It’ll be tough to spread shots between the two, not to mention the potential of landing Hayward/Butler via trade and Free Agency. Non of them might be willing to go 6th Man route. I could be wrong and they can mesh very well together + another scoring wing, but that vision is blurry at the moment. I got a good amount of respect on IT, but going forward maybe it’s best to trade him now to get good defensive and rebounding big men. It’s tough to… Read more »
That team would still not be close being in the conversation with the Cavs.
Oh, definitely agree. But i guess this version wont be setting record margin for losses.
Cols man. Freaking Cols.
What about him.
Dang. I wanted 50 after 3.
Game 1 looks like a nail biter on hindsight
Do you guys think it’s a good idea to sit the starters out in G3 & G4 just so that the score isn’t as lopsided as this?
Win-win situation for both teams. Series looks a lil more competitive. Our bench sharpen their knives prior to the finals. Lebron can flip bottles all game long.
Only bad thing, only 12 points out of 102 points is from the bench
That total will go up.
IT with the bruised hip and bruised ego…hard to return from that double whammy…
Ouch Shump…
I mean, maybe it will teach him not to dribble?
lmaooo I love how we always bash Shump lol
Close to doubling the score…
Yeah…
Finally, pulling the starters…
damn at Kyrie’s last step back 3
Well done fellas!!
The NBA record for margin of victory in a playoff game is 58 points — probably not gonna happen tonight, unless the bench bunch goes off without LeBron in the 4th.
Jeez, another insane shot by Kyrie.
Kyrie and JR are getting their shots back…
Boston had two pretty tough series coming into the ECF. I think they just didn’t have anything left in the tank, mentally. Reach down to find that grit to fight back and nothing was left there.
Certainly played a part…but the Cavs can also clown these guys when they are trying…
not sure I’ve ever seen a beatdown like this of the home team. Insane.
The Kyrie steal and dish to Tristan…
https://twitter.com/cavs/status/865750849695371264
Should have been a Smart foul, too…only guy in the league who fouls more than Bray…
LeBron is +42… I’ve never seen that before…
I love that the Cavs are still playing like it’s a close game… although I do hope they all sit out soon…
Holy crap another insane difficulty shot by Kyrie
If Thomas is out next game, they should just concede…
Incredible to think how much Lebron has altered OTHER franchises in the eastern conference during his career.
Just like Mike… maybe more so

I wanna see JR shoot shoot shoot himself into a rhythm
JR is 4-5, 1-1 from 3 with 9 points, but I understand what you mean, we haven’t gotten a breakout game from JR as yet
his highest in these playoffs has been only 13, crazy
Gotta tighten up the D if they want to keep the score doubled up
lol…..
Wow, the shot difficulty on that bank shot was insane by Kyrie
Kyrie with the sweet kiss
Ah, TT. Throw it back out.
Has there ever been an InstaCap posted before the start of the fourth?
lol good question
If Brad Stevens was the coach of the Cavs he’d be fired after this game.
You mean… this guy?
You’d think if President Stevens was all that he’d at least get his team to compete at home…one game, anyway…

And to hear the lamentations of the women.
Gonna be a lot of angry, drunk fat guys in Beantown tonight…
See… they are afraid…

GET LEBRON HIS 35 PTS / RECORD AND GET HIM THE HELL OUT OF THERE !!
I agree.
LeBron mauled by two Cs and still finishes.
LeBron the Destroyer. Laying waste to this iteration of the Celtics. This team won’t look the same next year.
LeBron should Kanye the MVP Award ceremony in New York…
Oh my! Technically I think Kanye was doing that on behalf of Bey, so maybe it should be a job for JR.
Not a good thing when Smart is your ‘playmaker’ the rest of the game…
Hope they pull the starters soon…
STOP IT LEBRON!
TT should’ve gone to the line on that dunk too
JUST SO THE CELTS DON’T RESORT TO ” UGLY—THUGFEST” AND INJURE SOMEBODY—-TY NEEDS TO BE AWARE OF THIS AND SIT PLAYERS IF NEEDED OR BETTER YET GET A TECHNICAL IF NEEDED
