Live Thread: Cavs vs Celtics (Round Two)

Round one of this year’s Cleveland Cavaliers-Boston Celtics heavyweight bout took place on opening night more than two months ago. Since then, a lot has changed. The Celtics lost star forward Gordon Hayward to a season ending injury that very night. Though he isn’t playing during this Wednesday night match-up, Isaiah Thomas returned on the first game of this back-to-back and looked good. The Cavaliers seemed energized from his return. The first round ended with a Cavaliers victory but Boston has outperformed Cleveland despite all expectations, at least in regards to their record.
Most everyone wanted to see Isaiah return to Boston and see him match-up against Benedict Irving, unfortunately we must wait until February 11th for that match-up. Kyrie has been playing well in Hayward’s absence and looks destined for another all-star appearance. Unfortunately for Boston, LeBron has been destroying worlds all season long and though his turnovers have been a problem, the rest of his offensive game has reached unfathomable levels of efficiency. The Celtics still don’t have anyone to guard him. Cleveland tends to get up for big games and this is one of the biggest of the season. Second night of a back-to-back or no, I expect them to be pumped up. Unfortunately, Boston has a lot more motivation and I expect them to come out like the angry chihuahua trying to take down the lion. I expect them to accomplish the feat, though I don’t think it means anything. The game should be tightly contested, so a fun one to watch. Go Cavs!

I don’t know if anyone in the media has ever given Brad Stevens credit for what he’s done. We need to have a parade to coincide with our 0-16 parade, to recognize him.
His playoff achievements alone are staggering.

Well expected a loss, but it’s still disappointing. Not sure what Ty Lue’s issue is with winning, but apparently it doesn’t go in side step with being agressive. Either way Mattingly needs to shave those damn side burns!
Way the Cavs shot the ball tonight, they really had no chance…whether bunnies or open threes, missed them all…

I’m not surprised the Cavs lost tonight (B2B situation) but I think it’s time the Cavs get a W against a quality opponent. I can’t remember the last time the Cavs got a win against a top 5 team and to me that’s not a good sign.
IT will help that happen. As will a healthy & functional KLove.
Let’s hope so, but me personally I always pay attention to that. The Cavs got a W against the Celtics but none against the Warriors, Rockets and haven’t played the Raptors or Spurs yet. Need to get a quality win IMO to help this team confidence, specially the new guys.

Why the hell doesn’t Channing play anymore? The second unit was much better with him out there.

Even with IT back the Cavs have really bad defensive issues. They don’t match up well getting back on defense trying stop fast breaks is one of their biggest issues defensively.
I guess we will see if having the oldest roster in the league will help them or hurt them come playoff time.

Korver. Run more plays for Korver. Let him shoot all game. he’s the only one on this team who seems to be able to shoot. They’ll run 3 plays in a row and then stop. Keep running screens for him.

And I’m sure the Celtic D will get credited, but it’s really mostly not that…
To me it’s both. They are one of the top defensive teams for a reason.
They are good defensively, and that has gained them a number of steals, but most of the shots the Cavs have missed have just been missed shots…
But going under the screen vs Wade for example is part of their defensive game plan so if Wade can’t hit those they should get the credit defensively IMO.

The most I’m annoyed about this game is Kyrie accepting the trap and trusting his teammates to make the right play. Something he didn’t do enough with the Cavs.
In Kyrie’s ESPN interview, he claims he knew he wasn’t wanted on the Cavs. It’s quite possible that folks were annoyed with his defense; his selfishness; his poor decision-making. Maybe they didn’t make a big deal about it because he was still a star – though we definitely know there were times that he drew the ire of LeBron due to his lack of D.
In any case, I wonder if he had an epiphany that he needs to be a better team player when he moved for his fresh start.
If a reporter asks Lue post game why he didn’t play Frye, the answer will probably because he didn’t want to.

It would be nice if the Cavs can get this lead down to 10 at least going into the 4th. Although I’m not sure to pull this game out specially if Ty Lue doesn’t try Frye at least for some scoring.
